As the vice president disembarked Air Force Two, his aides told reporters that he would be greeted by Ahn Ho-young, who they described as the South Korean ambassador to Washington. Only hours later, after Pence arrived at his hotel for the evening, did his office issue a correction. The man who greeted the vice president was Cho Yoon-je, who had replaced Ahn in November.

Her husband's ads used to run all the time. Apparently they also helped lead to a measles outbreak 10-15 years ago. Money to the CDC is also running out. I have a feeling Trump's people probably just see money going to countries with people who aren't white and they lash out. He's retiring, at least, although he's far from alone.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
It was three, so even worse I do enjoy the episode (especially the portions with Emily, one of my favorite Emmerdale characters), but I can see why many would not. Peter Amory was so underrated as Chris. I can see why the show is trying to bring that type of personality back, even if it isn't quite the same with Joseph.- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread
To be honest I doubt they will even now.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
Somebody sent me Emmerdale 3/30/00 today - Butch's funeral and the debut of Cain and Charity.- Twin Peaks
- Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread
I loved him in Muppets Take Manhattan. I have a lot of memories of his work on Ryan's Hope, but unfortunately none of it is good, as he was there for the awful, awful Kimbo shoots Michael storyline. I will never forget his scene with Rae at the police station, where she wigged out as she heard Kimbo pleading in her head over and over and over and over.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
They also had the "Man and a Woman" theme in one episode. There are likely a lot of episodes from the late '70s and early '80s that wouldn't have commercial music. It's a shame they can't at least put those somewhere, even if I can see why early '80s ATWT wouldn't be a huge magnet. I think they should try to get whatever '50s through '70s material they can find and do something with it.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I think they mostly had her say that to set up Charity being angry and going out for revenge yet again when Cain snubbed her. Moira had already come close to taking him back multiple times.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I guess Lucinda is Joan and Lisa is Bette? I guess I could see it a bit - Lucinda's insecurity ruling her life, beyond her tough public image. Lisa and Bette not as much.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Now that I've finished it I'll add that the Emma and Lucinda scene in this episode is just sublime. Even if there were no Hughes (aside from Frannie) the psychological elements of this episode reminded me a lot of Irna Philips. I think she would have been fascinated by Lucinda.- B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles

Someone put up a June (I think) 1991 (June 28 per YRFan23) episode I haven't seen on YT before. It's not too long after the epic takeover of Walsh and it shows what Marland knew so well and what soaps haven't known in 20 years or more - that aftermath, showing ramifications of actions, is key. This is what made me love ATWT and love soaps. It's what soaps were built on. And so many of my favorites - Andy, Lucinda, Iva, Julie, Evan, Connor. And just like then, there's also Courtney, getting on my damn nerves. It's a bit jumpy, which can be annoying (especially when it breaks up scenes like Lucinda bitching about Lisa), but still very watchable. This is when Iva had that haircut which was likely supposed to be kicky but made her look like Emo Philips. The best part for me is probably the frostbite from Emma to Iva over John. Brilliant acting, so biting and raw.- B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
I figure it must be sometime in June 1991 as it's with an ATWT episode with Julie near the end of her pregnancy. She had her baby on July 3rd. It's so good to see Julie, Bill, Darla, Sally, Clarke, etc. No one played that pathos like Darlene Conley. The stuff with Brooke and Ridge and Taylor is as boring then as it was now, but the chemistry between KKL and Ronn shines through. It was always the B-stories that made me more interested in the show. When they gave up on those it was never the same.- B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles

Maureen Dowd is an awful writer and always has been. She mangles a lot of this beyond comprehensibility.- The Justin Timberlake Thread
This is hilarious. I'm sure the NFL loved it, although they have bigger things to worry about.- The Politics Thread
I was reading that one of the big reasons for the drop today is because of the report today saying wages have finally increased for the first time in many years. It tells you a lot about how the average American is punished when increasing wages is seen as a cause for alarm.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
Moira makes up her own mind - I doubt Charity swayed her. I think that scene was mostly about completing the circle for viewers - Charity moving on and acknowledging Moira's love for Cain. I'm mostly just glad all the back and forth with Cain and Moira is finally over. Her beating him up is still a very odd writing choice though. More of the show romanticizing abuse. I get the feeling you're done with the show, but I think it's been alright this month - I've enjoyed more than I haven't, and I think they've had the balance right (for the first time in 3-4 years). It helps that a few of the stories I dislike haven't been on much. I do think the stuff with David and Tracy and David is stupid, especially given that his last wife was sexually assaulted. He wouldn't be so chummy with a stranger that his wife obviously doesn't like or trust. - The Politics Thread
