  1. Thank you for letting us know. She was very special to watch. Such a spark, from the very first time she appeared as Iris. She was different to Beverlee in many ways, but one thing they shared was an incredible charisma and a natural chemistry with everyone around them. She brought so much to her work in the role, making Iris believable while wooing men, bitching at Pauline, being frenemies with Rachel, plotting coups at Cory Publishing, or running business at the hospital. Of everything I most enjoyed the moments when we'd get to see Iris' vulnerability. I was just watching some of her scenes again last week. I never get tired of them. AW had such an underrated cast who always made a little go a long way. Carmen was one of those who made that the most true. As Khan said, I hope she knew how much AW fans appreciated her. And I hope she knew newer fans, like me, were hooked years after the show was just an entry on her IMDB page. Was it her choice to leave? I can never remember. The worst part of her exit story was that it was the end. A return would have made it more palatable. Imagine if in AW's last episode Rachel and Carl had gotten a call about business at Cory, and when they got to the main office, the chair spun around, with Iris smiling at them like the cat that got the cream. I'll never forget that interview Malone gave when he was briefly writing for AW where he (most likely through P&G mandates) said Iris couldn't come back because the show was no longer focusing on older characters.
  2. That would make sense. I used to think Brown or Russ Feingold would be good nationally but the latter's time has passed (and I think he was too "pure" to ever truly be a strong politician). I wish I believed we had a fair primary and that those who caused so many problems in 2016 weren't going to do the same again.
  3. Chuck Todd has such an awful voice for television. So whiny and weaseling. This man is a failure in every way. Only in our craven media market and on the especially craven NBC would he have a career. Sadly it seems like Bernie's sycophants already have the pitchforks out for Sherrod Brown because he doesn't want to give out rainbows and fairy promises about Medicare.
  4. It felt like some kind of attempt at social commentary, and the class divide, which was very "in" at this time. The show also focused on this by having Anne lose all her money and her home. It just didn't really fit KL, in Anne's case because you knew she wasn't going to be homeless for long, and the outcome was her spending way too long with an annoying overweight comic relief figure, and in the case of the Karen story, because the family of the boy she unintentionally killed seemed to be straight out of someone's basement production of The Grapes of Wrath.
  5. I agree. I know it was seen as boring but I liked the Val story. It fit her more than most of what had been done with her the previous 4-5 seasons.
  6. Someone has put up some Old Grey Whistle Tests that apparently hadn't been around before. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMKkw87LSSoyKjVadIVRRSg/videos
  7. Even now the scenes of Karen going all road rage on the paintball kids still bewilders me. And Claudia unintentionally murdering her own son, which genuinely made me angry. That type of what I assume was meant to be Greek tragedy just had no place on KL. And it obliterated Claudia as a character. She was never the same and should have been written out immediately. I say that even though I thought she was a great addition to the show up to that point. I remember when they had her attempt suicide and then had Karen essentially beg and guilt Kate into forgiving her (I don't think Karen knew what she'd done to her son, but still, I didn't believe Karen would have pushed so hard - it felt like the show belatedly trying to manipulate viewers and using a beloved character to do so).
  8. A lot of people seem to love Rami Malek (although I'm not sure how many will forget his middling response to the Singer situation) but I will be surprised if he actually wins. It's too much of a hot potato, especially when they have someone like Christian Bale giving the type of performance they frequently reward.
  9. I was reading the Wiki for Interiors, and saw this Woody Allen comment about his fears for the film. It just makes me laugh, because of all the soaps, Edge of Night is one of those that has aged the best, and talents like Irving Vendig and Henry Slesar will likely influence generations of writers if they take the time to sit and watch the episodes. Woody Allen movies, meanwhile, will always be suffocated by layers of extremely ugly baggage. Later, while watching the film with an acquaintance, Allen reportedly said "It's always been my fear. I think I'm writing Long Day's Journey into Night and it turns into Edge of Night."[11]
  10. It's a shame because I think season 12 took some real steps in refreshing the show for a new era. Then everything started going very badly off the rails in the finale. I've rarely seen a finale that feels so wrong.
  11. Oh it is kind of sweet. Just...odd. That was very nice of Michelle but I could have done without so much Karen. Then again, when the alternatives were Kate, and that annoying British woman, I suppose I should be grateful. Logically, the last season must have been better than the infamous season 13, but I don't remember enjoying most of it, at all.
  12. I didn't even remember the Perfect Strangers theme. This first one looks like they had a completely different concept for the theme (one that looks like it came from 1979...) and said "Screw it - but keep the footage" and shot the rest.
  13. Didn't we first just see Claudia's black heels or something? I'd forgotten all that with Ric and his wife (was this around the time they killed off the nurse Patrick slept with). Thanks. You have a great memory. Honestly sometimes I forget GH is even still on the air.
  14. 😄 They did Full House and Family Matters too, right? Those opening credits sequences are seared onto my brain. Maybe I should send them a bill.
  15. I always love finding more soap actors in commercials so thanks. (just yesterday I saw an insurance ad with a voiceover from Thayer David - it was a nice surprise) Most of the time when boys on 70's and onward sitcoms get older they just become assholes and sex-obsessed, but the credits for the Hogan Family manage to maintain the "one twin athletic the other twin loves book learning" narrative all the way to the final season. I'd genuinely love to ask their producers about their opening credits ideas, especially since shows don't even have opening credits now...
  16. I just noticed that someone FINALLY put the opening credits for the Louise Lasser season of It's A Living (or Making a Living - whatever) up on Youtube. Now that this is checked off the list I truly believe we are one step closer to world peace.
  17. He couldn't even win a James Comey lookalike contest.
  18. Reading the sad news about Edie McClurg apparently having dementia I was looking at some old Valerie's Hogan Family clips and ended up being reminded that Danny Ponce was one of the boys who played Laura's ageless son. I guess he got out of Knots at the right time... Did anyone ever notice at the time that the show had what seems like 6 or 7 different opening credits sequences? I found another new one just yesterday. Bewildering. This is probably my favorite one, as it has the popping and locking scene that today would probably be called "iconic". (I keep forgetting Christine Ebersole was ever on this show - she had so much bad luck in primetime)
  19. While I understand the decision to push him out, given what he did and his fumbling response, I am increasingly worried at what will happen the next time the media and the GOP come after a Democrat they hate. When they come for Justin Fairfax, will any of the party fight his corner?
  20. That was the year of Michael killing AJ, and Jennifer Bransford Carly, right? What was the other stuff? Was this when Sam found out Alexis was her mother? Was this when Emily was raped by Nik's doppleganger and the show said she should get over it and had him screwing Courtney? I wish TWOP's forums were still around to see what they would have said about the Alan and Reese scenes.
  21. Alan was never a sweetheart or a teddy bear. He even raped Monica. I wasn't surprised the scene got so ugly, especially since the likely intent was to remind viewers of how awesome Sonny was. I was just shocked at how terribly written and acted it was. I guess it's been a long time since I've sat through any of the JFP/Luza era.
  22. saynotoursoap had such wonderful uploads. Sadly I think these may be ones that somebody else took from his channel a few years ago and screwed up.
  23. Why does James Comey think we need his opinion on this? Or anything?
  24. It's so obvious they were desperately insecure about fan reaction to Sonny or Jason. This is what happens when you let people who have contempt for viewers and who push agendas run the show.
