I never saw Olivia as man crazy as much as desperately needy and prone to melodramatic romances. For that reason, her being involved with Natalia didn't really bother me. If GL had lasted the relationship never would have stuck anyway, because Olivia just never was going to be happy. I was more surprised when I learned that she had been involved with Frank and Buzz. Thank you. I never saw the comments. I didn't watch her GL run very closely but I'm not sure she had anything as repulsive in terms of assault and consent. I might say "Jammy" due to the origins, but I know many loved that story. Matt sleeping with Dinah when she had brain damage might be another, although maybe she was meant to be A-OK by then.

They still have a few they could get rid of, several I'd place before Dev. He hasn't been that bad over the last decade. He was much worse in the late '00s and early '10s.

I don't know but I've always assumed this was a strike story...maybe they did plan to write Silver out but the way they did it doesn't feel typical of what you'd expect from this era of AMC, not to mention this was Erica Kane's sister. That's the part that I think made the whole thing a mistake, especially in later years when Erica had clearly run out of storyline.

That's well put. Early LA Law was very good at having serious material and then some splashes of crazy comedy. HSB and St. E had also been on for a number of years and had seen their best days. The first half of St. Elsewhere's 85-86 was a huge slog (I am not talking about ratings, I don't know what those were, just quality) until they miraculously turned things around in the back half. Season 5 is also a huge mess and often moves too far into needlessly mean and "quirky" humor (which would also happen to LA Law later on). The show against all odds managed a renewal after season 5 - what were the ratings at that point and in the last season? Was NBC running low on shows? I'm grateful they got one last season, as the season 5 finale is one of the worst of all time for any show, but I'm still surprised they did. As for Dynasty, I think beyond just being tired of pretty people and silly problems, the show was just hollow by that time. There used to be a long comment on a TV website about why the show began to fail and how as the years passed, the Pollocks didn't even want the cast to move during scenes. And it truly does feel like studied lifelessness with each passing year.

GL was lucky to last as long as it did. By all rights, after the disastrous runs of JFP and Laibson, it should have ended in 1995 or 1996. I think Ellen Wheeler made a lot of mistakes, but I don't blame her for the show's death - some might even say it would have gone off around 2004 or 2005 without her.

I think it's a lack of interest and a fear of viewer backlash. I don't even think they have any strongly intended way of using most of their black characters. I know some say this is down to her fans complaining about her not being with Spencer, but GH is fine with ignoring fan complaints. They just don't want to use Trina. They never have. I will be surprised if she's still around within a year.

Nothing against the ladies, who are all beautiful, but I didn't think much of those covers at all. They looked cheaply done by some past Radio Times standards. They also did a bad job with several of the wigs. Enough to where having it as a big anniversary stunt makes no sense to me. That photo, which looks like it got slapped with AI, just reminds me of how few I care about on the show now. This would be a good time to write out the Knights and put better owners in the Vic, but I doubt it will happen.

The show has so little interest in black characters (and seemed openly bitter at Trina becoming more popular with fans than they had anticipated), I'm kind of glad they didn't bring back past characters with new actors just to still not do anything with them.

This country is either apathetic to fascism or merrily approve of it. There was an article out today about Venezuelans who are being deported and genuinely believed Trump would never let them be in this situation. They still support him. And of course "the left" is blaming Democrats for not passing DACA. One of these jackasses on Twitter finally admitted they don't even live in the US and never have. The only purpose jaundiced JD Vance has is to be dumped onto social media and preview the next push of extremism. This time it is telling us courts don't matter. This is what America wants, and any of us who don't are just left in the dirt. Anyone who can afford to leave should do so as soon as they can.

Such a bizarre decision, especially as I imagine she was very popular with fans. It helps explain why the writing for her seems negative in some of these episodes.

That's very sad. I know how JER valued his priest characters so he must have respected French for him to last the run of the show. I'm sorry to his loved ones but I am glad his struggle is over.

Thanks. I still wonder why Sam never came back in the show's last year. Maybe Wes Ramsey was busy. There's a lot they could have done with Sam, even if I wasn't one of the fans who felt he was the new Michael Zaslow.

Thanks. Feels like a bit of a waste, especially as it seems like they ran out of strong story for Audrey by the point they brought Jim in.

It's a shame the show moved so far away from that (PC tried briefly around 1999 or 2000), but then when you have a cast of 500 you aren't going to focus on patients. I didn't even know about any history with Phil and Audrey as I'm not as vested in old GH as I should be. Thanks for letting me know. I'll have to check out what's available in the episodes.
