The View
The View has always had a nasty vibe, since the first thing it got attention for was having a host many saw as brain dead. The only time they seemed to be stable was during the years people saw as boring (when Lisa Ling was there). There's a real ignorance which they revel in on that show, and it disturbs me at times. I remember when they had some ex-gay spokesperson on there and Meredith Viera was the only one who asked questions which were remotely logical.

I'm not sure. You probably already know this, but this was a feature SOD did for long-running soap actors at this time (they did one for Jeanne Cooper, and probably a few others). They were a month or so behind, I think, so SMG can't have been around all that long by this point.

More Brenda and Wally- All My Children Tribute Thread
Oh, this has some of the notorious Barney the Clown story. I don't think any of that is on Youtube is it? Notice them playing "Have I Stayed Too Long At The Fair" in the background of some of Erica's scenes when she talks about her circus dream. Albert Stratton ends up looking like a cross of Peter Brown and Richard Mulligan. There's a tiny bit of very late Lauren Holly near the end of this - I think she looks good with that short hair. It certainly shows more of her true age though. I had totally forgotten Eric was her grandfather. It sucks they didn't bring Mark back (hadn't he just left!) for this story.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
For me that era of ATWT represented history, family, friendship - it was a little sterile, yes, but at the time it felt warm and friendly enough to me. I also didn't feel like it was ever as clinical as it could have been because Lucinda spent the Marland years running hog wild. But I can see what you mean, and you certainly aren't the only one who feels that way. I think when ATWT tried to be like other soaps, it failed, whether it was desperate attempts to be like primetime quasi-porn, or whether it was the ABC-ification of the show beginning with MADD' and FMB's arrival in late 1996.- All My Children Tribute Thread
I don't think Culliton really had a chance to implement long-term ideas - I felt like he just stayed with Chris/Erica while he was building up problems with Kendall and Bianca. Or maybe I'm just being generous. I think it was Passanante who started Chris/Erica - I still have some awful, mostly blocked memories of Erica being menaced by his huge dog or something. Chris being Ryan's father led to no story - it just seemed too easy.- All My Children Tribute Thread
This may already all be on Youtube, I'm not sure, but you may enjoy it or find a few new clips. Early on the camera also shows more of Walt Willey's inner thigh than he may have cared for. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMZRI-6Oyn8- All My Children Tribute Thread
I was reading an article from when Angie was supposed to be joining Loving, and they said in there that ABC had confirmed Angie would also be making an appearance on AMC, they just didn't have a date. I wonder why that didn't happen.- The Politics Thread
The reason they're calling for it now is because things are up in the air. If, by May, Romney has the nomination on lock, then they won't be calling for it. That's why comparing now to May confused me. They took the votes from Florida and Michigan to punish them for moving their primaries up. That was decided back at a time when Hillary was assumed to be the nominee. I really wonder how many Republicans wish the same had been done to some of their primary states and their grandstanding this past year, especially since many believe the GOP nomination fight has been too long and bloody. We could say if this or that were different, she could have been the nominee, but these things were pretty much set in stone at the time. That makes up a huge part of the media base. I could swear that Charles Gibson brought all that up in an ABC debate.- The Politics Thread
For one thing, you didn't have Democrats trying their best to launch campaigns to get other people in the race. The Republicans are still trying to get Christie, Daniels, or Jeb Bush in. I thought the media loved the fight between Obama and Hillary. It stretched out for quite a while. They had no problem poring over Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, and other echoes of the past. It was mathetmatically impossible for Hillary to be the nominee. She was too lax in the caucus states. She was going on mostly just for pride and because she felt she owed it to people. That situation hasn't arrived yet with Romney. He doesn't have enough of a lead in delegates yet and too many states are still too unpredictable. Unless the media is still calling for a brokered convention for the GOP in May 2012, I don't see the comparison.- The Politics Thread
There was no speculation on this because Obama spent a lot of time on caucus organization, which Hillary's people skipped. Once he started winning the early states (aside from New Hampshire) and the caucuses, all that was left was the endless media speculation on "PUMAs" and how the "PUMAs" were going to fight all the way to the convention.- Any Capitol Fans Here?
So Jordy traded how many women with the McClandess brothers? I thought Brenda/Wally was something planned, it's interesting to know otherwise. Were they still popular once Leslie Graves left? Leslie has a real vulnerability about her. She is very believable as the rich girl who doesn't quite fit into the family and isn't sure what she wants, but she's going to do whatever she can at high energy levels. It's kind of tough to separate Leslie and Bill Beyers onscreen from real life, but they have nice chemistry together. It's so weird for me to picture Julie/Brenda/Trey/Jordy as siblings, for some reason.- All My Children Tribute Thread
That does sound like Frons. I'd always assumed McTavish pushed for Collins because that was her Janet.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
It's hard for me to want to really watch any ATWT post-1995. It's some mental block. I don't know why. I guess holding ATWT to too high of standards.- All My Children Tribute Thread
That may have been in FrenchFan's recaps. I have some of that time too so if it isn't in there I will get around to looking at what I have.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

Who was the woman with Wally (his girlfriend) at about 20 minutes? She is supposed to be prim and proper I guess, although that doesn't stop her from doing some ass-grabbing.- Any Capitol Fans Here?
Looks like almost an hour and a half of Capitol material. Some of the start has Billy Warlock so I guess this is around 1984, 1985? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ikd7Fz8BKo8 - Any Capitol Fans Here?
