I think that was Hutch, not Linc. I never liked him either (although I preferred him to Mike Kasnoff). This was a solid episode. I especially love the brief Lisa/Lucinda bitching session, and the scene where Tess tells Courtney she had everything, and Courtney snaps that Tess had what she wanted most - loving parents. Normally I thought Courtney was a drip but that scene felt very real to me. Some of the characters, like Barbara, really got bogged down in these years. I do love that ridiculous upturned Peter Pan collar as she deals with sleazy Visconti.

More 1991. This has good sound quality compared to the other episodes. It's great to see a little of this time on the show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUvezWvgiDU&feature=channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xr0gga18x0U&feature=channel

The media will ignore it, as always, but this is nasty stuff. NOM is openly working to foment hostility between blacks and white gays. This is a big strategy of theirs. I hope some of those in the media like Newsweek or Washington Post who had such kind words for Brian Brown, NOM head, will cover this. I doubt it though. http://www.americablog.com/2012/03/secret-doc-shows-lead-anti-gay-group.html

It's odd, because Brainard used a lot of humor on AMC. I wonder if Rauch/Long felt only "comic" characters (like Gina) were supposed to have humor. The rest of the show seems deadly serious. (Or was Brainard around before Rauch/Long? I don't know). The connection I've seen between GT Mason and Eden is incredible. I just wonder if all that with the family was lost when Marcy was left. It's too bad, as Long wrote families well on GL. I have only watched a little of SB's last year, but some of the "family" scenes like Kelly hectoring Sophia about being a junkie, or Kelly and Ted briefly walking in after Sophia finds out about Santana's baby, are jarring.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
She was fired. I think it was the right decision, mostly because they had ignored so many opportunities to mature the character. When they weren't writing stories about how pathetic/fat/ugly she was, they just had no interest. Linda Henry is such an underrated actress. I had chills when she was screaming about Heather.

Eliot could have stayed around for years, causing trouble. I wonder why they wrote him out. They lost a lot of people within a year or so, also including April, Deborah, and Steve. I honestly just love Deborah and Steve. I'm not sure how I will feel about the show when they're gone.- DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos

Harry Hill spent the last few years making fun of Heather (and she gave more than enough reason to do so). Random example. Now that Heather is no longer around to parody (and oddly enough Heather died around the time Harry's show was winding down), Harry invited Cheryl Ferguson on for a goodbye and a song.- Isidingo
I had heard of Dusty, but mostly in the context of her relationship with Steve (didn't they bring her back for that story). Who were Joey and Kyle? Egoli is one of those shows I always want to see more of, especially strange stories like taking the show's stable gay couple and having one of them become a bisexual sociopath (sadly that seems to be all you get on TV for bisexuals). The "human" aspect of Generations is a good word for it. There's a certain everyday quality, seeing people talking at home and at work, longtime friendships and relationships which we can intuit instead of being beat over the head with. I also like the inclusion of characters American soaps would dub "boring," like Ajax's brother, Ntombi's brother, and the old man who runs the apartment building. I am so behind on these that I just realized the Africa Channel looped back to what must have been 2006 or 2007 episodes, as Lee is still alive and she is still with Alec, the guy who later hit her and had a complete breakdown. They are also on the hunt for Cherel. Before they looped back, they were in mid-2008, and were about to air Letti's exit. I guess now I won't see it. It came on the heels of a richly written and multi-faceted story where Nandipha's travels as a model/spokeswoman for HIV/AIDS causes drove a big wedge in her marriage to Parsons and her relationships with his family. By the time she decided to spend more time at home, he had fallen in love with a woman named Thandi, and they were having an affair. He stayed with Nandipha, and went along with her plans to adopt a child, as slowly more and more members of the family (his brother in law, his father) found out. They all kept the truth from Nandipha, Letti, and Parsons/Letti's mother, Agnes. Finally Nandipha and Letti saw Parsons and Thandi kissing, and it all came out. This also cost Nandipha her chance of adopting a child. Agnes was disgusted, as it reminded her of the father's own attempts to have two wives, and Thandi had been like a daughter to her. She then turned her anger on Nandipha, whom she felt was above herself and could not recognize how her own selfishness had helped end her marriage. Meanwhile, a secret bubbling in the background was that Letti's husband had had a love affair with a beautiful co-worker, and had kept quiet about this. He also has powers to see the future and kept having dreams of the entire family at the dinner table, and someone being dragged underground. The end of the story was- EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I haven't watched any of this lately but I'm glad to hear they mentioned Donna. I always wonder if any of those who went on and on about Ronnie/Danielle ever watched the Kathy/Donna story, which is one of the most emotionally devastating stories ever on a soap opera. One Ronnie/Danielle fan did put up the Kathy/Donna story, and surprise surprise, it was taken down- The Politics Thread
One of the parts of this conversation which hasn't been picked up as much is that many families probably did talk to their sons or grandsons about the danger they face just for being a black man. I think there's a certain amount of colonialism in someone like Geraldo saying, oh, if he hadn't been wearing a hoodie. In situations like this just being black may have been all it took. I do think there's some type of instinctual fear and paranoia but I also think a lot of this is down to the Dirty Harry mentality which is so celebrated. At least, so far, there hasn't been a ton of OBAMA IS PLAYING THE RACE CARD and random flinging around of any mistake Trayvon Martin or anyone in his family ever made. I hope that can continue.- Y&R: Old Articles

I love these scenes. So rare to see a woman over 40 written as sexy, and not done in a desperate way. - Edge of Night (EON) (No spoilers please)
