  1. I wonder why they put Victoria Mallory instead of a more long-serving cast member. She looks pretty though.
  2. The few episodes I've seen from this point in time seem strong. Even the bits and pieces of the last few years don't seem too bad. The cast is first rate and could play anything. It's a shame that most of them did not go on to major soap work elsewhere.
  3. I don't think it helped that the Luke affair destroyed the character.
  4. It seems like Lemay changed a lot of the characters when he arrived. I guess some actors were probably happy with the changes, but I do wonder if those who objected had good reason.

  7. I hadn't heard the voiceover woman in this before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMwVmjBzzn4
  8. I'm sorry to hear that. He used to show up in the soap magazines back then, at times, since they loved to write about spouses who were on soaps.
  9. Talk about a leading question.
  10. This story will likely make Doug a hate figure among "Stendan" fans, as no story is ever told for them other than the latest cannon fodder for Brendan's abusive ways. The more Brendan beats, the more noble he is, according to the show. I liked Doug a lot but I think this story will end very badly for him.
  11. The main matriarchal figure AW had after Mary died was Ada. I think she worked marvellously in that role, but I do wonder sometimes if the average housewife at home just did not connect emotionally to her. Just as I think a lot of fans may have never truly accepted Rachel, which left something of a void when she became the central heroine. Virginia Dwyer seemed to have her most success in radio soaps. She was on the cover of TV Radio Mirror in the early 50's, in that era when radio soap actors often had the cover (Charita Bauer, Jan Miner, etc.). The only TV soap star I remember having a cover of their own was Eileen Fulton.
  12. In late 1995, Billy Warlock auditioned to be OLTL's Drew (Victor Browne got the role).

  14. No wonder Skye felt so shoehorned in. I can't imagine her as Cassie either.
  15. The problem with the returns on DAYS is that they had very little to do with family. None of Alice's family returned. Some of them, like Julie, got their airtime slashed even further. Carrie and Marlena returned, but the story focused more on the love lives of Carrie and Sami than on family dynamics. AW was a hugely popular show in the mid 70's and then had a dramatic fall by about five years later. I agree that the show was still good at the end, but I do wonder if some of the moves which were made at the height of AW's success were what sealed it's fate. I think the Matthews had enough complex ties to Bay City that they could have prospered for many years, as the Hughes or Bauers could have. All we have to do is look at what replaced the Matthews - for years, mostly just very short-term characters with no real ties to anyone.
  16. I know. I was touched when I read the comments at the time he passed, that he had kept talking, as Palmer, even after the scenes were filmed (and they used a little of that in his goodbye episode, or were going to - I can't remember). The executives who destroyed daytime didn't seem to realize just how much the older actors often lived for these shows, and how they in turn kept these shows going. I know it probably would have happened no matter what, but I do think it's notable that AMC did not go on long past Palmer and Myrtle, among others.

  18. How close to the end was this for Marguerite Ray? I thought she was gone by this time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r00WiqlLQY&feature=channel
  19. The lyrics about your friends gave me back your records, and all the rest, is what seemed odd to me. I think there could have been better songs.
  20. I watched some of this to see Matt Bomer. Wow, Blaine makes a lot of monkey faces when he sings. And very little about some of that episode seemed brotherly to me, especially their singing a romantic breakup song.
