I wonder sometimes if Chuck and Donna were considered a supercouple. I guess they are, but wasn't Donna's longest relationship with Benny Sago?

For figure skating fans
That reminds me of the Debi Thomas performance in 1988, where she fell and was rattled the entire time. I watch Elizabeth Manley's performance from that LP every so often just as a pick-me-up - it's a nice example of a joy of skating which can get lost. I know some said that the scoring controversies that year led them to revamp their system (of course I've also read comments from people who say that the current scoring system is why there has been a loss of interest in the sport in the US).

For figure skating fans
It was interesting reading about Kerrigan and how she basically imploded in the year before the attack - I wonder how much the attack helped to hide her decline. I've heard about Harding and what a powerful skater she was, and how she also basically destroyed herself. On the men's side, it seems like Christopher Bowman was the same way. Reading some of the reactions when he died were so sad, like his old coach/manager being so despondent at not being able to help him, even though Bowman was trying to contact him all the way up to the end. Do you know anything about some of the stories I've heard regarding Canada trying to de-gay their skating?

ANOTHER WORLD EPISODE 34 Amanda is relieved of her duties
That last scene was great. I think Iris and Grant briefly dated when he first came to town.

I always got the feeling that ABC was phasing him out at this time so that meant the end of the relationship. I don't think Brooke had anything else to do for a while after this.

I don't think ellabelle meant she asked that they kill off Trevor, just that she didn't want to work with him.

I'm not sure if the Matthews were reminiscent of the Hughes family. Mary didn't seem to be cold or manipulative, the way Nancy could be. Liz seemed to take that role in the Matthews family. I guess Russ played a similar role to Bob, with Rachel as Lisa, but Alice and Pat don't follow the pattern. The problem with writing out so many members of the Matthews family is this meant a lack of stability and of balance. So many people came and went from AW starting in the late 70's, so many families. I think viewers did need that stability. I don't think they were solely interested in the witticisms of the elite. You had Ada and Clarice, and the Ewings, but they were more blue collar. There was no middle class. I think the sad sack state of the Matthew family in their last years on the show made it worse. They just seemed downtrodden and out of place. I think eventually Felicia, Cass, and friends brightened the atmosphere, and they did strike more of a balance, but the 1979, 1980, etc. episodes I've seen, while good, have some of that stale emptiness about them. I even find myself looking forward to the very few scenes with Jim Matthews, helping someone with their taxes, dealing with jealous Liz. I guess they couldn't get away with writing her out at that time, but beyond that, I can see Lemay/Rauch wanting her in a central role to "prove" that the part was not a success due to Courtney's work.

I'm not sure if Greenlee/Ryan had anything to do with active fan campaigns. I think that was all Frons. True, but that only happened once. They were not put back together in 2006. They were close to being enemies, until a thawing out around the time she was about to die again. Their last reunion, the show had been canceled. Organized fan campaigns may not have been the answer, but I think the show often just did whatever it wanted, even if fans would hate it, in the show's last years. For instance, they never did manage to properly address the whole Babe situation.

I think AMC/ABC should have listened to fans more. Not always, but I would imagine that if they'd listened to fan reaction, stories like, "Let's kill off Stuart for no reason," and, "Why hello, the son I aborted during the Nixon administration," would not have happened.

Didn't they initially not to bring Dimitri back and only backlash made them change their mind? I was definitely surprised they never went back to Erica/Dimitri - I got the feeling they had been trying to write Dimitri out more than once, and things kept getting them in the way (for instance, I got the feeling they were going to kill him off in early 1998, until McTavish came back).

GH: Classic Thread
At the time I remember feeling like they did better montages than they did producing a show (the show just lost all momentum around summer 1998), although, looking back, 1998 was paradise compared to 99 and 2000. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2tPxqw99Gs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymrfYAwnJMs&feature=relmfu

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I was watching the Goodbye Heather thing - the narrator is so flat and takes away from how you should feel. Who is she? Didn't they have someone else for years? When Kathy was around I kind of felt a little for Phil, because I thought she was a drain (at that time anyway), but once they made him the big stud/kingpin of Walford, I had a tough time watching him.

Do you know who this is playing Eleanor? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe6MIQ4w9q4 It's interesting how they did this Cruz/Santana sex scene. The scene is steamy, yet you can tell he's pushing himself through it. They took a lot of care in a way they wouldn't now. The Mary/Mark stuff is tough to watch. He just seems pathetic. I guess the show went through a lot of change by mid-86, since Mary, Mark, and Kirk would be gone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4TSVSkzxW0&feature=channel
