Thank you for keeping us up to date! I'm surprised they brought Gerald back, as his story always sounds like a mess to me.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I'm only at the last of the second part, but it is good, overall - some of the supporting actors in those scenes aren't the best but the early Nana and her husband are great (weird imagining her becoming Nana though). The scene where Alfie can't accept Nana's dying and you can see him switching from open anguish to putting on a happy show is very good, along with that sad scene where he wakes her up to make sure she's still alive.

Maybe the cops were big fans of Greatest Show on Earth and he told them he'd give them Jimmy Stewart's autograph.

I think Molly's character was involved in a story on muggings or attacks on older people.

So did they just pretend he had never died when they did the Barney the Clown story, or did they say that he faked his death?

That's interesting. Do you remember if Holland Taylor's character had anything to do beyond just be a cop?

Wow, Erica scraping to get a hundred a week. How times would change for her in only a few years. I'm fascinated by the mystical element they mixed with the PSA story about Phil's return.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
If anyone wants to see the episode which goes back to when Nana Moon and her husband first met (I guess this was the end of an era for this type of thing and Eastenders - about 10-15 years after 1988's Civvy Street made a number of 40's and 50's flashback episodes for Pat and Dot and Mo). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RX3yq78kGBk&feature=channel&list=UL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-ea_s32c9s&feature=channel&list=UL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNpp5V2Lzt8&feature=channel&list=UL

I know the death part was good, I just think they could have had that as a different story and kept Billy Clyde more in Donna's story.

I must say watching these scenes make me strangely angry. This seems like such a dark period of AMC, and a bizarre period, but in the midst of Donna's murderous fantasies, they really missed out on a dramatic story. I know they had to give Tad a big exit, but they still could have "killed" him off another way. Imagine the drama of Donna - who had a history of mental instability anyway - killing Billy Clyde and making it look like suicide, and coming unwound, and in the process, wrecking her daughter's mental health as well. Candice Earley was so great in those madness scenes at the start of the clip.

This is fascinating to read. I had no idea Sally had given up a child. It sounds like they had more story planned for Sally - did the actress just suddenly leave? I never knew exactly how Jill started working for Katharine. I also never knew someone tried to rape Leslie in the mental institution. Didn't someone say this sequence was very ugly and basically the stereotypes of asylums? I think one of the soap magazines praised Janice Lynde's work as some of the best of the year.

What happened with Ted and the winery? Was that story dropped? Jake looks like he's going to burp when he's supposed to feel bad over trashing Laken. SMS has much better hair here, and seems to be settling into the role of Laken. But her ATWT character was one of my favorites so I'm kind of glad it didn't work out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvqhlz2D-B8

So Burt went from Mary to pursuing Julie. It seems like at this time Julie and Mary were sort of close to the same age. Then Julie was aged quite a bit in the late 70's thanks to the odd decision to make her a grandmother. And then, thanks to that odd Melinda Fee casting, Mary somehow caught up with Julie in age. Too bad they didn't do more with Mary and Julie, especially with the whole father figure gone wrong relationship of Julie and Bob. It seems like Bill Bell reused some of his Julie ideas with Jill (Philip father figure, David, like Philip Jr, in military or boarding school - to some degree, Derek as Doug with Jill/Katherine and Addie/Julie).

This is incredible! Thank you for this. Reading this gives more details than just a basic story outline. For instance, I never knew how much Laura fought to end her marriage to Mickey and not bow down to what was expected of her. It's very surprising to see, and would never be allowed now. Who was this Jim, and Burt? I think I've asked about Burt before and got an answer but I just wanted to know more about him. Julie certainly had a busy story, especially since the show was just a half-hour at this time. It is fascinating to read, so complex, even on the page. Poor Phyllis had such a terrible life. Mary was about 25 years younger than Bill, wasn't she? Which Mary was this?
