The Mary Catherine story...probably one of the last stories (the last?) on Knots that affected me emotionally.- Flamingo Road
- Falcon Crest
Interesting article. It sounds like she killed the author's enjoyment of the show, but I get the feeling the show had many other problems (mainly that that whole era was winding down). I didn't know they had to pay Susan Sullivan for the whole season. Didn't she want to leave?- Knots Landing
"Down Came the Rain and Washed the Spider Out (Part 1)"- The Politics Thread
They were criticizing Klein because he was giddy over a hire that said bizarre, quasi-homophobic things for click bait, like "I chose to be gay," like tired old rants about pride parades (does anyone even care now? I'd say more straight people are at those than gay people), inappropriate and misguided attempts to use MLK to attack gay people, and other absurdities. This man is a hero to the far right because he is the gay apologist for their cause. http://mediamatters.org/blog/2014/03/12/meet-brandon-ambrosino-homophobes-favorite-gay/198461 No one bullied Klein. They were horrified by his choice and he then admitted he hadn't even read any of the man's work. If you were running a paper or a magazine, would you hire someone without reading their work?- Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
Yeah I remember that. Searing. Richard Eden had such intensity - I think the only other male actor on the show who had that much was A Martinez, and he was often more restrained, since Cruz was a low-key, true-blue guy. I wish they'd done more with Brick. They should have had him truly go over the edge and pick himself back up, instead of just using it for the Hayley rape story.- Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
I get the feeling he mostly cares about his favorites and then about "drama." So something like Brandi's Sochi comment may be all he thought he needed to have people enjoy the reunion.- Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
I wonder if they were planning to put Lilly and Brick together after Amy died - they had some hot chemistry. Of course Lilly killed her, but it is a soap. I've never understood why they wrote Lilly off so quickly.- Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
I'd never heard that either. It makes me uneasy to even comment on, because it's obvious that she felt very uncomfortable, to mention it years later. I've been watching some of the 1986 episodes that Santa Barbara NBC put up. They're very out of order, but I get the gist. Hayley and Jake were so sweet and pure. I'm still not sure why the show broke that up. Courtney was also in some of that and I liked her too. The show had such a wealth of young actresses that they could have done so much with. As good as the dialogue is and some of the character work is, the time on the show when Cruz, Eden, and Mary are all in loveless marriages (Eden and Mary essentially having the same story, as they're married to psychos) is exhausting, and a little drab. I wonder if this is why the show cut Mary, essentially punishing their own story, not her.- The Walking Dead: Discussion Thread

Oh well that's a relief. I thought it was Loras because I read that they were together and I couldn't tell them apart. So that was the guy Robert kept berating, right? The cup bearer. I appreciate you letting me know. In my half-asleep writings I forgot to mention that I did think Emilia and Jason Momoa had great chemistry. I can see why they had such a fan following. Considering the nature of the relationship, they did a lot to sell the love between the characters.- HBO: Game of Thrones
So, after finishing the first season a few days ago... Favorite scenes: Catelyn and the direwolf fending off the assassin who came to kill Bran That exquisite, lengthy scene where Cersei and Robert talked about their failed marriage Robert slapping Cersei ("I shall wear it as a badge of honor" "Keep quiet or I'll honor you again") Catelyn at the Aerie realizing her sister's madness Jon's friends reciting the oath to convince him to stay with the Night Watch (very cheesy and 1940 MGM but I loved it so much) Miri Mazz Duur shaming Dany for her arrogance and lack of understanding (wonderful acting and one of the only times that story moves beyond the weird colonialist trappings) Dany telling Miri that she will hear her scream (and she did) Arya's fencing master fighting off the guards as she escaped (I'm going to delude myself into thinking he's still alive and fled King's Landing) Sansa nearly pushing Joffrey off the walkway Robert and Tywin wearing Jaime down to nothing, because they knew that inside he felt he was nothing. Jaime should be pathetic but NCW and the writing make him far more vulnerable than I'd expected him to be. That unbelievable speech from Old Nan about the North. That scene where Versys and Littlefinger call each other out as being worthless schemers no one has respect for, yet then acknowledge that they must maintain their uneasy truce. What did not work for me: - the filler porn and the endless profanity that sometimes felt forced into people's mouths - Littlefinger and all his scheming against Catelyn and Ned based on a lot of backstory and rushed through one or two episodes at most. The whole thing was very tell-not-show and made Catelyn look like an idiot. Aiden Gillen also seemed to visibly struggle with most of this material. - Dany's story. I spent the first 4-5 episodes alternately cringing at the dubious stereotypes and waiting for Joxer to pop up. Even as I began to accept the story more, I never managed to see her brother or Drogo in roles beyond plot devices. This story had some very moving sequences, especially when it comes to the white savior syndrome, but I just couldn't believe in it as a whole. - Renly and Loras. I'm glad that GoT felt no need to make gay or bi characters overly flashy or lively, but they're both so very dull. Loras being Cersei's boytoy came out of nowhere and the most I took from it is that he doesn't have an ass.- German soaps: GZSZ, UU & AWZ
Sad about VL I guess that Joscha story wasn't popular with viewers?- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Thanks. I wonder what roles she tried out for on SFT and ATWT.- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
The wonderful Jenny O'Hara (Thelma, Lucinda's 92-94 secretary on ATWT, and actress in My Sister Sam, among other shows and movies) will be on Supernatural next Tuesday.- HBO: Game of Thrones
It's not available on Instant. You have to get the discs.- Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
Keith mostly just seems like Justin Deas yelling in another voice, although he has his moments. The last time I thought he was attractive was here and there on ATWT.- The Walking Dead: Discussion Thread
Early Rick, probably. I think after he killed those thugs in the bar and killed Shane, not as much. I agree about the binge watching. It's true for a lot of shows. I binge watched season 2 and I enjoyed most of it. I actually loved a lot of that season. It's my favorite season. But if I was watching in real time I think I would have been driven up the wall with week after week of Andrea going on about "her choice" and insisting she could shoot a gun because she was a big girl.- Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
To me the whole "we don't know if Mauricio was cheating" was just plain nasty, and tough to forget, if Lisa had ever been close to Kyle at all. I think the problem is none of these women should be around each other. None of them.- The Walking Dead: Discussion Thread
Talking Dead bonus clip.- The Walking Dead: Discussion Thread
This shows how much of the last few episodes were foreshadowed by that wall of paintings Michonne and Carl found. Creepy as hell. http://twdamc-confessions.tumblr.com/post/79906636601- The Walking Dead: Discussion Thread
