  1. What a wonderfully vivid description and those screencaps make it even better. Thank you! Is it still available to view?
  2. I think Richard Culliton may have been writing by that point.
  3. I haven't gotten around to them yet but I can't wait. I know some used to be up at various places but I don't think some of the 1979-ish ones were. I hope they may have some of when Pat, Jackie, and her daughter (one of the few pseudo-Sugden relations who is still alive [along with Matt Skillbeck and son]) arrive.
  4. They probably thought he was too old, and Jake, ironically, took his place as Stephen's father. AW ad around 22 minutes (there are also a few SB ads in this, along with Ian Ziering having the same hairstyle as his mother).
  5. I think this is Jayne Bentzen around 22 minutes. The "skincare specialist" also looks familiar.
  6. January 1954 Radio TV Mirror
  7. Susan had always picked the wrong guy, at the wrong time, and almost always picked a guy who was more in love with someone else. She just couldn't shake the feeling that Larry was settling for her. Marie Masters was such a unique actress. I love how she uses Susan's blazer to make herself seem so small and vulnerable. It's miraculous that ATWT kept her to the end, even in the thankless role of mother to worthless Emily and Alison. No other soap by that point would have ever employed someone like Marie, who was so difficult to pigeonhole or stereotype. She's a prime example of what we lost with ATWT.
  8. What made the scene with Emily and Ellen so effective is that Ellen always had a soft spot for Emily, and blamed her mistakes on Susan being a terrible mother. For Ellen to blast Emily that way was extremely rare, and shocking. It's also a great example of what Pat Bruder could do when given the chance. Emily's attire reminds me of Marlena de Lacroix panning her wardrobe as one of the most ridiculous parts of 1994 daytime, trashing Emily for getting her tits out every time she went in public.
  9. What I don't get is if they can't speak her name, what will the show be doing? Will Bravo have to preapprove everything they say about her?
  10. Paddy is more of a father figure to Aaron - he first became close to Aaron when he was dating Aaron's mother Chas soon after Aaron returned to town as a surly teen. As he mentioned in the scene, when he questioned Aaron about what was going on with him (when Aaron was struggling with his sexuality), Aaron beat him up. Then he came out to him. They're been very close ever since. It's one of the most authentic relationships because it's allowed moments of silliness along with drama. Speaking of Emmerdale, if anyone wants to see some episodes from the late '70s or late '80s, this channel has been uploading some. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKxXRm0Acop72Lik4FkogQw/videos
  11. I think she tried but couldn't do it. The show seems to have totally forgotten about Tracy's kidney.
  12. Dawn Acton. There was never any reason for Tracy to be THAT vile. Yes she had a tough time growing up, but it was just too much. Corrie was overall better produced for most of Ford's first run so it was easier to hide the flaws. I do think they've gotten a little better with her in the last year, but Collinson's material was just awful. Awful. "I'm the best thing to happen in 2000 years!" [!@#$%^&*] Nick and David for no apparent reason and it being forgotten soon after.
  13. I haven't seen much of the stories at this time so I didn't even know the stuff with Lee and Sunny and Cissy was still going on during the early NBC episodes.
  14. Ad at about 3 minutes.
  15. That's neat. Thanks for finding it. I'm so glad they didn't do Kayla/Jack again.
  16. That would have made sense (and maybe Amanda could have developed a fixation on him that he would not return, sparing me the Amanda/Mark/Jennifer story that I found sleazy and cliched).
  17. To me both characters are just played out and riding on nostalgia. I remember when she was there in the late 90s and she felt isolated and out of place (to me), floating around in unflattering skirts and sort of working at the hospital, sort of dating Stefan, etc. On paper she should have been the heart of the show, but I never saw it. Maybe it was Guza, but I think Genie's dislike of the character was also an issue.
  18. I don't know if they had any real animosity between them. I imagine it will be addressed somehow.
  19. I guess they needed a scheming character to help push the RIta/Ed breakup, since Ed was a good, passive man. After that I think they wanted to show Ed having a final break from this type of woman so viewers would be more willing to accept him with Maureen. I also wonder if they stretched the relationship out because of Simon not being popular at first as Ed + Maeve being on maternity leave.
  20. I don't think Sally's in a bad place, I meant she's in a difficult place as Deirdre was for many of her later years. She's not a young woman or an old woman. It's easy to write her as a caricature, or based on a longterm romantic pairing. I think the Tim stuff and toning down Sophie (and Rosie's departure) have all helped Sally, as has the departure of that hack Collinson who just saw her as a shrewish plot device and had her blindly all over a man who raped or tried to rape multiple women. Whether that will last, who knows. It's sad as I've always liked Kevin, and I'd hate to see him go again, but I don't want to see Sally/Kevin again.
  21. The place Sally is often in reminds me of the show's struggle with Deirdre for years, especially in regards to Kevin/Sally (although they at least are willing to give Sally a serious relationship outside of Kevin...). "Ken, do something!" and "Tracy luv" and all that was just bad camp. I'm sorry that and the triangle are what got the most attention after her passing, although I guess it's better than not being remembered. Corrie refusing to let characters have reactions beyond punchlines is its biggest weakness of modern years. I think this is the last era where they allowed Deirdre to have honest reactions to Tracy and not be her enabler or comedy mother. It was a two-hander not long before Tracy's 2007 exit.
  22. Same actress. Edwina was meddling and could be very cold toward her daughter, but she wasn't a psycho. Only an idiot would have seen the Hughes as boring. Frannie was supposedly going to be recast (MES wanted to leave, and did) if Marland hadn't died.
