  1. Michelle Gayle (ex-Hattie) speaks up about DTC's bizarre back-patting over not "box-ticking." She was more polite than some would have been, considering how arrogant and smug he was about it. (if any other producer had framed it that way, the purity brigades would have torn them apart) http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/eastenders-racism-row-michelle-gayle-5107426
  2. Thanks! I have a few articles I am going to try to post later. These are the men who were supposedly fired from FTR for being a couple, right? You can read between the lines in the article (buying a house, etc.)
  3. And authors (if their last name was Snyder...). I'd forgotten Courtney was a model. I guess that was for the bulimia story. I keep trying to remember if he almost made Lily a model too (through Lucinda's machinations). Maybe not.
  4. They uploaded some Y&R material, along with Peyton Place (a lot of Peyton Place), so that may be it. I've talked to them some a little and they were always friendly, no ego like many on YT. It sucks that this happened to them. I'm glad I saved their GL stuff. I wish I'd saved the Peyton Place...I never even got around to watching it.
  5. Must be that they were out on DVD, which is pathetic, as P&G discontinued the line.
  6. Thank you for the summaries, jam. So the pregnancy Maggie had early in her run - was that Greta? I guess Kate left in the September 1965 section. I always wondered if she left with that Brock guy. I guess not, if he was killed afterward. I had to laugh at the multiple mentions of Matt having a "violent argument." Nick eat your heart out.
  7. Emily was just a pathetic loser more than anything else. At least KMH's version. I think the show failed with vixens from the late 90s on because they treated them as a joke and as something to have no respect for, no depth, nothing. The last vixen or female villain on the show who had any layer was Carly in her first few years.
  8. Brenda and Brenda/Jax bore me as much through promos as they did watching live.
  9. It was a different era, and she wasn't in stories that were as ridiculously campy as Julia's were. I'm sure Sheffer would have had her rape Andy for a ha-ha moment, and people would remember, but if that's all people remember godawful Annie Parisse for, it's not much of a legacy.
  10. No. She moved away in September '81.
  11. I didn't hate her, per se (Rosanna I hated) but I thought she was a sanctimonious, whiny drag, with a whiny voice, who always showed up to look annoyed or lecture people (generally Andy). Compare any scene Andy had with Julie to any scene he had with Courtney in the early 90's and you will see why I was so bored/annoyed with the latter. (I didn't want Julie and Andy back together romantically - I just loved their friendship; it was so different to anything on most soaps) She quit.
  12. The show was a boring mess for most of that period. It was one of the only things holding the show together. I'm not surprised at the ratings.
  13. On Supernatural tonight, Dean (who mostly loves classic rock) was de-aged to about 14 or 15, and started enjoying Taylor Swift music. Once he got back to his normal age, "Shake It Off" came on the radio, and he decided he still liked it. I laughed and for some reason thought of this thread. http://carmelasky.tumblr.com/post/110036966726
  14. The worst part is the commercial comes on not long after a news ad on AIDS.
  15. That article interested me mostly because Storms, Tylo, and Austin Peck have had such messy, messy personal lives in the decade since that article. It's not enough to talk about how much you believe - you have to walk the walk as well as talk the talk. Julianne Morris doesn't seem that bad to me at all in comparison. Jaime Lyn Bauer - I cut her a lot of slack as she had a terrible life from some of what she's said in interviews, and she seems like a nice person, but I will say if I had to work with her I think I'd have a big migraine.
  16. Aaron Schock, who annoys the hell out of me as he spends his time posing for beefcake magazine covers and going around the world mugging for his Instagram, has now decorated his office "Downtown Abbey" style. Only for his staff to get panicked at the decorator wanting to show it off, and shoo the reporter away. http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/hes-got-a-downton-abbey-inspired-office-but-rep-aaron-schock-wont-talk-about-it/2015/02/02/1d3f1466-ab1f-11e4-abe8-e1ef60ca26de_story.html
  17. Andy didn't know Courtney was under the rubble. That was one of her sticking points - why was it acceptable if he hadn't known it was her? It was a silly reason to break up with him, but I never liked her and I never liked Andy/Courtney so I was just glad to see her split. The show really did have too many confusing mentions of various companies and characters by this time. Even Marland had overdone it somewhat in his last few years. Without him? Good luck. I still remember Holden going on about Meridian or whatever for much of 1994. I didn't care. I never cared. Janice was terrific. That whole story wasn't really typical of ATWT and that's one of the reasons it worked - that and Holly Cate. And it was the first time we'd seen a malevolent person use the warmth and kindness of the Hughes family against them.
  18. She came on the show as a dumb cigarette girl who loved old movies. She slept with Danny. She later revealed herself as a fed and dated Rick and Frank. The character was heavily panned and left after about 5-6 months, I think.
  19. They wanted to make Mary/May (the fed who slept with Danny and loved old movies) Stacey, but Lisa Brown didn't want to return to the show. It's always interesting to hear how fans watching at the time felt about Nola and Quint. Watching just their clips, they feel so isolated from almost everything else by the time they left - even most of their family, sans Henry and Bea. Watching these clips I sort of wish if they were going to bring her back with a chip on her shoulder, they'd had her stirring and being unpleasant the "pleasant" way she was here, to suppress her pain over feeling her life was wasted, instead of how they handled it. I think the idea was that she was self-sacrificing and if she couldn't have Kelly she wanted someone good and pure like Morgan to have him. Which is fine, but not when taken to this extreme. To me that would have been interesting to explore - seeing her get overinvested and controlling to make up for not being Kelly's girlfriend/wife.
  20. I think it's just easy pandering to the "keep away from our children with your librul big government ways!!!" crowd. Men like this: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/jack-wolfson-vaccines-doctor-measles
  21. It's politicized because Rand Paul is a lunatic and Chris Christie is a pathetic opportunist and saw this as a way of showing he's "small government." It's telling that even the most far right purists, like Ben Carson, are saying kids need to get vaccinated. The media would kill a kitten for Rand, so I doubt this makes their love of him any different, but if people don't laugh him out of office after this, then they're just dumb. Thom Tillis is another idiot, one who barely won his seat last year in spite of a terrific GOP year and tons of money. North Carolina used to be a beautiful state but people like him, who put uber-conservative extremism and big business pandering over all else, have utterly destroyed it. What a joke that some on the far right is now taking umbrage to washing your hands after you take a [!@#$%^&*]. I guess they're so full of [!@#$%^&*] they don't see it as a big deal.
  22. What gets me is she still wore those clothes after she was supposed to have gotten better. She looks so much like Barbara Jean in Nashville. Nola is such a fun, nasty little witch here. I can see why the fan hate was so high. We have all known a Nola. She stirs and she stirs, she pits people against each other, all while being the victim. It's great entertainment. They're lucky that Kristen Vigard was still Morgan at this point because that's the only reason I feel anything for Morgan in this. I get uncomfortable with how aggressive people need to be in "proving" to Morgan that Kelly is so perfect for her. Seeing Hillary literally get on her bed and start berating her for throwing out some flowers - I wanted to file a damn report. And there's no focus on what Morgan wants. It's all about what Kelly wants and how Kelly really really loves Morgan so she'd better accept it. That's what some women call the "nice guy syndrome." Yes, Morgan did love Kelly, but she was an 18 year old girl being shaken down by a woman a decade her senior right after a major car crash. Get over yourself lady! Geez.
  23. Rolling my eyes way back in my head at some spoilers. DTC strikes again.
  24. I'd think Nene wouldn't even want to go to the reunion after the order. Is she going to say, "You're not supposed to say that about me! Stop saying that about me!" throughout the reunion? The whole thing confuses me.
