GH: Legacy Character Recast
Last I spoke with a rep at ABC, Hudson West was still playing Jake. Additionally, I'm aware that Hudson wants to continue playing the character but the show just hasn't been using him. That said, I do expect them to recast because Hudson is turning 17 in March, and Colin (new Aiden) is somewhere between 22-23 in real life, having graduated H.S. in 2020.

ARTICLE: ‘As The World Turns’ Alum Van Hansis Joins ‘General Hospital’ As Recast Lucas Jones
Although his debut could be derailed by a potential preemption later this week, “As The World Turns” alum Van Hansis (ex-Luke Snyder) is returning to daytime television when he takes over the role of Lucas Jones on ABC’s “General Hospital,” last played by Ryan Carnes (“Desperate Housewives,” “Eating Out”). According to TV Insider, which first reported the news, Hansis is set to hit Port Charles on the Friday, October 4 episode, albeit contingent on whether or not ABC’s coverage of the Major League Baseball Wild Card Series causes a last-minute preemption of the drama series on Thursday, October 3. While storyline details have not been announced, it looks like Lucas is back in town just in time for the awakening of his cousin, Lulu (now played by Alexa Havins), who requires a liver transplant. Although Lucas and Lulu two are not related by blood, the show has recently made enormous efforts to rebuild the Spencer family, of which Lucas is a part as the son of the late Bobbie Spencer (the late Jacklyn Zeman) and the late Tony Jones (Brad Maule), with the couple adopting Lucas as a baby. The character was first introduced in 1989 and is the biological son of the late Cheryl Stansbury (Jennifer Anglin) and the late Julian Jerome (William deVry). In 2005, Lucas came out as gay, and so Hansis joining “General Hospital” comes as a full circle moment for the actor who previously portrayed one of the first gay male lead characters in daytime during his run on five-year run on “As The World Turns.” Jake Silbermann, Van Hansis PGP In August 2007, during a time when soap operas undertaking such a storyline twist was considered unfathomable, Luke and Noah (Jake Silbermann) became the first gay male characters from a daytime soap opera to kiss on screen. “I remember when Luke and Noah kissed for the first time, we had ‘Entertainment Tonight’ come. And I get it, but it’s great that we’re in a place where it’s so casual, just like how it is in life,” said Hansis, recalling a different time for soaps in an interview with TV Insider. “There are gay people in life so there should be gay people on soaps and queer people and trans people and all of that. So, the fact that it’s so ingrained and it’s not like ‘the gay character’ or ‘the gay storyline’ feels really nice.” As for returning to daytime after a 14-year absence, Hansis notes, “I’ve been in this industry long enough that I know there are no guarantees, but I didn’t know if I’d ever be back on a soap. But now that I am, I’m super excited to be here.” He added, “I’m really just making sure that I’m taking it in and enjoying being a part of something really, really cool. I’m old enough now that I’m like, ‘It’s okay to be proud of yourself and be grateful for the opportunity.’ I’ll try to do my best and get the most out of it.” Since “As The World Turns,” Hansis has gone on to appear in numerous other projects, including the films “Kiss Me, Kill Me,” “First Reformed” and “Easiders: The Movie.” On the small screen, he’s starred in the series adaptation of “Eastsiders,” and has appeared in episodes of such shows as “Psych,” “Nikita,” “FBI” and “The Deuce,” among others. In addition to taking over the role of a legacy character on “General Hospital,” Hansis also got to reunite with former “As The World Turns” co-star Maura West (Ava Jerome), who portrayed Carly Snyder on the CBS daytime drama series. “She didn’t know I got cast and I was coming out of a wardrobe fitting she was grabbing her wardrobe for the day,” said Hansis to TV Insider, recalling the experience. “This was the day that we had scenes together and she just looked at me and it was like she saw a ghost. She was like, ‘Van?’ And she gave me a big hug and then she was like, ‘Wait, are you Lucas?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah,’ and she screamed so loudly that the security guard came down to see because they thought somebody was getting hurt or something.” To find out more about what Hanis has to say about his daytime return, including reuniting with West, check out his full TV Insider interview here. ARTICLE: Colin Cassidy Joins ‘General Hospital’ As Recast Aiden Spencer
The role of Aiden Spencer is now being portrayed by daytime newcomer Colin Cassidy, it was revealed on the Monday, September 30 episode of ABC’s “General Hospital.” Born on-screen in July 2010, Aiden is the only son of Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson) and Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst), the popular couple known to fans as “L&L2” (Liz & Lucky), referring to Aiden’s paternal grandparents Luke and Laura Spencer (Anthony Geary and Genie Francis). Aiden has two older half-brothers — Cameron and Jake — both from his mother’s side. In December 2023, Aiden, who was played by Enzo De Angelis at the time, revealed to his mom that he was gay while they were baking food together at home. The character had been seen very little since then until the show recast the role in May 2024 with Tristan Riggs, who Cassidy is now replacing in the role. On Instagram, Cassidy told his followers, “I am so unbelievably honored and grateful to be a part of ‘General Hospital’! Thank you so much for all the love and support already, it really means the world to me.” Later, in an interview with Soap Opera Digest published shortly before he made his debut, he said, “I feel incredibly grateful for this opportunity.” “To be thrown in with the incredible actors I’m working with and have these amazing scenes to do … It’s really not something to scoff at! It’s a big deal and I’m very grateful,” continued Cassidy while speaking with Digest about being cast in the role. “Aiden is a very sweet young man. He’s loving, caring, thoughtful. He’s ambitious; he’s got his baking business and he works hard in school. But I think the most important thing to him is his family — especially his mom,” Cassidy noted of his character to Digest. He added, “He’s very protective of his mom. He trusts her; he feels like he can be himself with her.” As for working with Herbst, he says, “I can’t say enough good things about her.” Before joining “General Hospital,” Cassidy made his professional acting debut in the movie “Merry Ex-Mas” in 2022, and has since appeared in the movies “Labyu with an Accent” and “Knockout Blonde: The Kellie Maloney Story,” a documentary film that chronicled the life of Kellie Maloney, a transgender British boxing manager. Cassidy portrayed a teenage Frank. Note: The post Colin Cassidy Joins ‘General Hospital’ As Recast Aiden Spencer appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. Read More

GH: Legacy Character Recast
Passions and Days of our Lives have done far worse in that regard. Even though General Hospital is normal in comparison, let's again remember that the two aren't blood-related. Yes, they are cousins, and I'm not saying it'll happen, but I find the timing of Lucas' return and Aiden's recasting with an older actor to be on purpose. I do overthink things, though. I'll admit that. Unless GH has a plan for Lucas that doesn't include Brad... this change just made me question their intentions.

I suspect Aiden/Lucas, even though they are quasi-related, albeit not by blood. It's not like Lucas has been around much, and Lucky has been a deadbeat for so long that his Spencer side isn't even relevant. Heck, even Laura (his grandmother on Lucky's side) doesn't even talk to the kid much.

DAYS: R.I.P. Drake Hogestyn (John Black, Days of our Lives)
I had heard about Drake's passing shortly before the show released the statements last night, and I must say that I have never truly cried over an actor dying the way I did with Drake Hogestyn. Just thinking about it, I can't even say why it has affected me so much because Days of our Lives has never truly been my favorite soap. John Black has never truly been one of my favorite characters. However, Drake Hogestyn was one of the nicest and most respectful people you could meet in this industry. The few times I got to interview him or speak with him at events or on the set, he was very kind to me. He was patient. He would help you in any way that he could, even when you felt like a bumbling fool. Cancer is no joke. It comes in quickly and takes one out just as quickly, especially pancreatic cancer. I just hope that in the end, he was guided home peacefully and without pain.

He was surrounded by his family and loved ones. “It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn,” said the Hogestyn family in a statement. “He was thrown the curve ball of his life when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he faced the challenge with incredible strength and determination. After putting up an unbelievable fight, he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones.” “He was the most amazing husband, father, papa, and actor,” the family statement continued. “He loved performing for the ‘DAYS’ audience and sharing the stage with the greatest cast, crew, and production team in the business. Just four days shy of celebrating the 21st anniversary of her on-air debut on “General Hospital,” actress Kelly Monaco taped her final scenes as Sam McCall on Friday, September 27. “I want to take this moment to reach out to Kelly’s incredible fans and express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering love, loyalty, and support you’ve shown her throughout her time on ‘General Hospital,'” said Monaco’s real-life mother, Carmina, in a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), announcing the heartbreaking news. “On this final day, just four days shy of the anniversary of her first episode on October 1, 2003, Kelly will close the door of her dressing room for the last time,” Carmina continued. “This moment is a difficult one, but knowing that she has had such an incredible, devoted fan base has given her strength. You’ve stood by her through every twist and turn, celebrating her achievements and providing comfort in the hard times. Your love and dedication have meant more than words can express, not only to Kelly but to all of us who care so deeply for her. Thank you for being there, for believing in her, and for reminding her of the impact she’s made. We will always be grateful for you standing with her through it all.” Soap Opera Network first broke the news last month that Monaco had been let go from the ABC daytime drama series. Sources noted that the actress was “blindsided” when she learned the news, particularly as the show plans to kill off her character this fall. In the weeks since, fans have rallied behind Monaco with phone calls, letters, social media posts, mobile billboards, and even a major billboard in New York’s Times Square. An online petition was also created and has since amassed 16,000 signatures. The “I Stand With Kelly” initiative has trended daily on X (formerly Twitter), and news of Monaco’s ouster amassed millions of page views across a multitude of publications, including “Entertainment Tonight,” E! News, Deadline, PEOPLE, NY Post, Daily Mail, Variety, TV Line, Entertainment Weekly, Us Weekly, Los Angeles Times, Parade, The Independent, TV Insider and Toronto Sun, along with a host of other national and international news stations and print outlets. ABC has not issued a formal statement on Monaco’s exit, despite other outlets reporting “storyline dictated” as the reason. Separately, while Monaco’s airdate has not been announced, based on the show’s current tape-to-air schedule, fans can expect to see the last of the actress as Sam McCall sometime in October when the character goes out with a bang.
