ARTICLE: ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ Embroiled in Controversy Ahead of Move to New York for Season 5
Just days after it was announced that “The Kelly Clarkson Show” would be officially moving production from Los Angeles to New York City for its fifth season this fall comes word of toxicity behind the scenes at the daytime talk show, according to a bombshell report by Rolling Stone, published on Friday. While staffers say Kelly Clarkson herself is “fantastic,” some of her producers, including executive producer/showrunner Alex Duda, get the brunt of the accusations. “I think Alex Duda’s a monster,” a former employee told Rolling Stone. “I have a friend who’s an executive producer who warned me about taking this job, because apparently she has done this on every show she’s worked on.” Among the 11 current and former employees interviewed for the piece, they all seemed to agree that Clarkson was unaware of any problems for lower-level staffers, who the outlet claims have had to take on additional work outside of the show to help them pay their bills, including as Uber Eats drivers, dog walkers, and even babysitters, among other work. There’s also frustration that despite some leaving the show for other careers, the “toxic” culture still remained despite a number of complaints to Human Resources about the behaviors. A former staffer who had taken a leave of absence from the show due to mental health matters stemming from the treatment they received by producers, including bullying and intimidation, says they went to see a psychiatrist for the first time in their entire life because they “truly couldn’t handle it mentally.” Additionally, the same staffer noted that despite working in the entertainment industry for several years, their time at “The Kelly Clarkson Show” was “by far the worst experience I’ve ever had in my entire life.” They added, “It deterred me from wanting to work in daytime ever again. When I say I was traumatized, I was really traumatized.” Some of the accusations brought against “The Kelly Clarkson Show” draw eerily similar to those brought against “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which led to the firing of three executive producers and the eventual end of the daytime talk show. There were also similar complaints of toxicity at Telepictures, the production company behind some of the longest-running daytime talk shows in daytime TV history, including “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” and “The Tyra Banks Show,” the latter of which is where Duda worked before taking the job at “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” In the Rolling Stone piece, the continuation of similar patterns at all those shows is blamed on the recycling of the same executive producers and showrunners who go from show to show while bringing their experiences and behaviors along with them. While Clarkson and producer NBCUniversal are said to have not provided comment ahead of Rolling Stone’s publishing its investigation, the two parties have since issued formal responses. In a lengthy post on Instagram, Clarkson said, “In my 20 years in the entertainment industry, I’ve always led with my heart and what I believed to be right. I love my team at ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show,’ and to find out that anyone is feeling unheard and or disrespected on this show is unacceptable.” She noted, “I have always been, and will continue to be, committed to creating and maintaining a safe and healthy environment at ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show.’ As we prepare for a move to the East Coast, I am more committed than ever to ensuring that not only our team that is moving, but also our new team in NY, is comprised of the best and kindest in the business.” Stating that those in leadership positions need to do better, always, Clarkson revealed that she and her senior staff will partake in leadership training so that everyone can be/become “the best version of ourselves.” She says, “Part of that build will include leadership training for all of the senior staff, including myself. There is always room to grow and ensure we are all being/becoming the best version of ourselves in any business, especially when it comes to leadership, to ensure that any notion of toxicity is eradicated.” As for NBCUniversal, a statement from the company says, “We are committed to a safe and respectful work environment and take workplace complaints very seriously, and to insinuate otherwise is untrue. When issues are reported, they are promptly reviewed, investigated and acted upon as appropriate. The Kelly Clarkson Show strives to build a safe, respectful and equitable workplace that nurtures a culture of inclusivity and creativity.” For more information on the Rolling Stone investigation, including further implications cited by current and former employees of the talk show, read the full story. ARTICLE: Pure Flix and Great American Media Announce Plans to Merge; Deal Calls for Regulatory Approval
Pure Flix, the faith and family streaming platform owned by Sony Pictures Television and Great American Media, home to a growing portfolio of family-friendly media brands, announced an agreement today that sees the two companies merging. PureFlix will become part of the merged company, with Great American Media contributing two cable networks (Great American Family and Great American Living) and a FAST channel (Great American Adventures). Great American Media will retain a majority interest in the merged company and oversee the independent organization’s day-to-day management. While terms of the deal were not disclosed, Great American Media President and CEO, Bill Abbott, will serve as CEO of the merged entity, reporting to the company’s board of directors. The new company will build on the multi-faceted, multi-channel family and faith media brands in the portfolio. Closing of the deal is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. “In a media environment where programming and distribution business models are in a constant state of flux, this agreement provides a rare opportunity to maximize our potential with the expertise, market knowledge and content creation capabilities of a world class partner like Sony Pictures,” said Abbott in a statement. “This merger will allow us to further our commitment to original, quality content and makes Great American Media and Pure Flix leaders in a large and under-served market.” Nadia Bjorlin, David A.R. White (“Nothing is Impossible”) Courteasy of Pure Flix/AFFIRM Entertainment “Family-friendly entertainment remains an important segment of the industry, and merging these two entities will create the greatest opportunity to achieve more scale for Pure Flix as it continues to build its subscriber base,” said Ravi Ahuja, Chairman of Global Television Studios and Corporate Development for Sony Pictures. “Bill and the Great American Media team have been successfully leading the Great American Family and Great American Living brands, and we believe they have a winning plan to take Pure Flix to even greater heights.” With Pure Flix and Great American Media sharing the same mission to serve and delight consumers in the family and faith categories, the combing of the two provides an opportunity to reach a larger and broader audience for Great American Media’s linear networks and FAST channel while better utilizing Pure Flix’s SVOD service and vast content library. The two expect that bringing their brands together into one will immediately establish the new company as a leader in their target genres. Sony Pictures Television acquired Pure Flix in December 2020. The service provides faith and family-friendly movies and TV series to its more than one million subscribers in the U.S. and Canada. Meanwhile, Great American Media has established itself as a key destination for original Christmas movies, romantic comedies and classic series that celebrate faith, family and country, led by Great American Family which is currently available in more than 50 million homes and is carried by all major cable providers. Great American Family recently closed out First Quarter 2023 as the fastest-growing network on TV for the second consecutive quarter. It’s been months since “GMA3: What You Need to Know” went without permanent hosts following the exit of Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes. However, that changed today when ABC News President Kim Godwin formally announced Eva Pilgrim and DeMarco Morgan as the show’s new co-anchors. They join Dr. Jennifer Ashton, ABC News chief health and medical correspondent, who has been with the show since its initial launch in March 2020. In addition to the “GMA3” hirings, Godwin also announced Gio Benitez will co-anchor the Saturday and Sunday editions of “Good Morning America” alongside current co-anchors Whit Johnson and Janai Norman. Before being named co-anchors, Pilgrim and Morgan had appeared on “GMA3” numerous times, co-hosting together or alongside others, including Benitez. “I am incredibly proud of the reporting Eva, DeMarco and Gio have brought to ABC News. They join their colleagues Whit, Janai and Dr. Jen whose steadfast commitment to bold, straightforward journalism has been integral to their respective programs’ success,” said Godwin. “I must also acknowledge the incredible work of the teams led by executive producers Simone Swink and Cat McKenzie whose programs are the ones most Americans turn to for the day’s news, analysis and more.” Joining ABC News in 2015 as a correspondent based in New York, Pilgrim has also served as co-anchor of “Good Morning America” Saturday and Sunday since 2018. While at ABC News, Pilgrim has covered breaking news stories, including the recent mass shooting in Nashville, the Alex Murdaugh trial, the Charlottesville rally, the 2020 presidential election, the murder of George Floyd, and Hurricanes Matthew, Harvey, Irma, Maria and Michael. Before ABC News, Pilgrim started in local news making stops in Bluefield, West Virginia; Columbia, South Carolina; Charlotte, North Carolina; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A relative newbie to ABC News, Morgan joined the network in 2022 as a correspondent based in Los Angeles. Since joining ABC News, Morgan has covered many breaking news stories, including the recent severe weather in the West. Before ABC News, Morgan was co-anchor of the weekday 4:30-7:00 a.m. and 11 a.m. newscasts at KCBS in Los Angeles where he also reported for all CBS News networks’ broadcasts and platforms. Before that, he was a CBS News correspondent. He covered stories ranging from destructive wildfires in California to the deadly Las Vegas mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest music festival. He also covered both RNC and DNC 2016 political conventions. Benitez has been ABC News’ transportation correspondent since 2020, covering aviation during the industry’s near-total collapse in the pandemic and space at the onset of America’s private space race, plus the auto industry and railroads. Since joining ABC News in 2013, Benitez has notably covered the Pulse nightclub shooting, El Chapo’s underground escape from a Mexican prison and the Boston Marathon bombing. He has a long history of breaking exclusive investigative stories, and some of these investigations have led to important safety recalls. HULU & DISNEY+ to combine into one platform by the end of 2023
I understand Hulu and ESPN+ will remain standalone services but will also be available as a hub within Disney+, similar to Disney+Hot Star in India. Essentially, the programming from all three will merge into one app, likely still called Disney+.

Ratings From the 90's
The best ratings I believe JFP’s OLTL got was the Georgie Phillips storyline. Those demos, IIRC, were so good the show was topping GH consistently. Again, that’s why she got the GH gig. The next time OLTL started doing that again was ironically when it got canceled under Ron, which is why despite canceling the show itself the network extended the contracts of Ron and Frank which later led to them both getting GH.

Ratings From the 90's
This era wasn't JFP. She didn't start until 1997. Because OLTL was doing so well, particularly in those demos, as you said, she got the gig at GH.

ARTICLE: ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ Moving to New York’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza for Season 5, Taping in Studio 6A
Earlier this year, it was reported that executives at NBCUniversal discussed moving Kelly Clarkson’s syndicated daytime talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” from Los Angeles to the New York City area beginning with the show’s fifth season. Months later, Variety reports via a spokesperson that a deal has been made which will see the show taping at the iconic 30 Rockefeller Plaza, NBC’s New York headquarters. Reportedly, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” will take over Studio 6A which previously housed late-night shows hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Conan O’Brien and even David Letterman. A new state-of-the-art studio will be built over the summer along with space for technical facilities and support services. The move to New York stems from Clarkson’s desire to be in an area with more than “one season,” she said in an interview with Variety last year. New York’s newly expanded tax credit also incentivizes eligible productions that relocate to the state by reducing the eligibility requirement from five years of filming to just two years, specifically for talk and variety shows. Besides Clarkson herself, those expected to be heading to the North East include executive producer and showrunner Alex Duda and musical director Jason Halbert. Variety notes through a source that “details are still being ironed out regarding the show’s entire staff,” much of whom have been with the show since it debuted in 2019. “The Kelly Clarkson Show” enters a demanding market in terms of gathering an in-studio audience, joining the likes of staples “The View,” “Live with Kelly and Mark,” “Tamron Hall,” “The Drew Barrymore Show” and “Sherri.” Only “The Jennifer Hudson Show” and “The Talk” remain Los Angeles-based daytime talkers. So far this season, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” has averaged 1.37 million daily viewers. It took over the coveted 3:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT time period on the Owned NBC stations previously occupied by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Already renewed for a fifth and sixth season, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” is cleared to air through at least the 2024-2025 television season. Watch a clip below from a recent performance of Clarkson’s where she debuts her new song, “Mine.” Note: The post ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ Moving to New York’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza for Season 5, Taping in Studio 6A appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. ARTICLE: REPORT: CBS and Sony Resume Discussion Over Potential Seventh Season of ‘S.W.A.T.’
After “S.W.A.T.” was abruptly canceled on Friday after talks broke down between CBS and lead studio Sony Pictures Television over a potential seventh season renewal, it would appear the show might not be done after all. According to a report by Deadline, talks between the studio and the network are currently swaying at a potential 13-episode seventh season, with resolution expected by the end of the day after discussion continued over the weekend, despite the shocking cancellation announcement on Friday. Timing is everything, however, as CBS is set to release its 2023-2024 fall primetime schedule to advertisers on Wednesday, May 10 and if a deal can be made “S.W.A.T.” could appear on that schedule with either a fall slot or as a midseason replacement. In the series, Moore plays Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, a former Marine and locally born and raised S.W.A.T. sergeant tasked to run a specialized tactical unit that is the last stop in law enforcement in Los Angeles. Torn between loyalty to where he was raised and allegiance to his brothers in blue, Hondo strives to bridge the divide between his two worlds. Depending on the outcome, the season or series finale is set to air Friday, May 19 on CBS. Shemar Moore reprised his role as Malcolm Winters on the Monday, May 8 episode of “The Young and the Restless.” Posting an emotional message on his Instagram shortly after announcing the cancellation news, Moore said, “Its all about money, y’all. They said we’re canceled, but guess what I don’t think we’re done.” He added, “CBS is either gonna wake up and realize they made a mistake. Sony is gonna do their math and realize that this is not the right move. I hope we can have a kumbaya and come back together and continue this show because it’s a good time for families across the world.” Moore’s Instagram post has thus far garnered more than 100,000 likes. 2023 Writers + Actors Strike Thread
Currently, there's no verifiable information on what the shows plan to do writing wise as the strike progresses. With the DGA contract talks beginning this week and a bleak chance a deal will be struck if one isn't already with the WGA by the time the DGA contract expires, there's a big chance we'll see more than just a need to find writers. I wouldn't go by history, especially when you consider that there were eight soaps on the air during the last strike. There are now only four now. People don't want to lose their rights unless they are currently in a position of power to do so.
