I’m up to September 07, 1999.
*High stakes, riveting soap opera here! But I get it, so many other beloved characters are getting like 1-2 episodes per month right now, if that.
Abby is now being interviewed with the hopes that she’ll be shadowed/filmed by a TV station to explore her new hearing capabilities. She also tells Rick that she’s going to speak in Washington, but notices that Rick had a present for her which was an island vacation. She apologizes for not telling him sooner, and he says it’s ok, she should go to Washington instead and they kiss. Meanwhile, on the other side of Company, Philip is exhausted and apologizes to Harley for working too hard now that he’s taken over Spaulding. Harley makes him promise that he’ll be more focused on their family when he’s not working.
Ben and Blake meet outside of the Santos mansion and Ben promises that he won’t tell Ross or Holly about her being pregnant. They are friendly and Blake says he’s happy for Ben finding love with Carmen. Meanwhile, Carmen tells Pilar that she and Ben are in love and he’s going to move into the Santos mansion, but that infuriates Pilar. She says she doesn’t like the way he looks at her and he has a reputation with women, so she won’t feel comfortable. She brings up reading about how he raped Blake, but Carmen refutes that saying people threw out ridiculous accusations. After Pilar leaves, Carmen looks for Ben and overhears him telling Blake he will keep her secret. After Blake leaves, Carmen asks Ben why she was there and Ben says it’s personal, which doesn’t sit well with Carmen. After Ben leaves, Carmen calls Dietz and asks him to follow Blake and report back to her. Hours later, Dietz calls Carmen back and reports that Blake went to an OBGYN doctor’s office outside of SF, which confuses Carmen as to why she would leave town to see a doctor. We then see Blake meeting with the doctor, using a fake alias. Dietz comes back to the mansion and he and Carmen assume that Blake is pregnant and Ben is the father, which upsets Carmen. Ben arrives and Carmen jealously asks him what he’s doing with Blake, but he’s confused and says he’s not involved with Blake and kisses her. He leaves to start dinner and Carmen says to herself he’s such a liar because Blake is pregnant with his baby. Later, she grills Ben about Blake and what’s going on, because she doesn’t like competition, and Ben keeps telling her there is nothing going on. They start kissing, but she grabs a letter opener and stabs the chair right next to his face. He jumps and asks what that was and she says she knows all about his girlfriend Blake being pregnant with his child. He concedes and says she’s pregnant but it’s not his child and he’s been finished with Blake for a long time. After a lot of arguing, Carmen finally admits she loves Ben and they are seemingly fine.
Holly is now doing a story on Sam, behind his back, to help exonerate his past with the public. Sam finds out and gives her a hard time about doing it without his permission, but Holly keeps saying it’s an important story to tell. Sam leaves and goes back to his stables where he packs up his stuff and thinks to himself that he’ll miss Holly, as he flashes back to when they first met. We then see police show up at The Journal and arrest Holly for violating her probation because she was actively covering Sam’s story, which surprises her and all the employees as she’s escorted out in handcuffs. Later, Ross tries to plea with the judge to let Holly go since she’s a reporter and doing her job. The judge is hesitant, but says he wants to know Sam’s name so he can look into his case. She refuses, saying she ethically can’t do that given her job, so the fed up judge says she’s going to stay in jail for violating her parole. Sam then shows up and identifies himself and says he asked Holly to do the story on him. The judge is surprised by the turn of events and says Holly can do the story, and if she finds evidence that there was injustice towards Sam and his treatment, he will review it and make things right. However, the judge says Holly and Sam cannot meet alone without Ross being there with them as witness. They decide to use Cassie’s farm/stables as their meeting place going forward. Meanwhile, Blake goes to the farm/stables after her doctor’s appointment and talks out to Hart, saying she wishes he was still alive to give her advice. She mentions that she can’t go to her father (Roger), because that would just add another reason why he hates Ross. She starts breaking down and crying. Holly and Ross show up at the farm house and notice Blake’s car and assume she’s out on a walk with RJ. Holly teases Ross that this would be a good time for him to spend time with Blake while she and Sam work. Ross then gives Holly a friendly hug, which Blake then sees as she walks up to the front door. Ross later walks out of the house and runs into Blake and they exchange small talk, but they each have their own internal dialogue, with Ross saying Blake looks beautiful and wants to know what guy she’s seeing, and Blake saying she wishes she could tell Ross about their baby. Blake starts to tear up and asks Ross if he’s happy, and he says he is, and she sweetly yet sadly says that’s great and leaves. Meanwhile, Holly and Sam are now at the stables and begin to flirt with each other, as Sam turns on music and asks Holly to dance. Sam calls it their first date as they slow dance to Shania Twain’s “You’ve Got a Way”, and then later kiss on their second song. Blake walks towards the stables and opens the door, seeing Holly and Sam inside, but now apart from each other. Ross quickly comes in, realizing Blake was about to walk in on them, and apologizes. Blake is confused and Holly says it’s finally time to tell Blake the truth. She tells her about doing the story on Sam, and how he was convicted of murder and Ross has been helping her. Blake is uncomfortable about Sam’s past and Holly’s involvement and leaves. Ross chases her down and Blake says she needs to go to NYC because her new boyfriend is starting up a new internet company and she’s going to do his press. Ross asks for how long and Blake says a couple months, maybe more, which Ross says no to because of the boys. Ross then demands to meet this new boyfriend, but Blake says he can’t and she leaves. Meanwhile, Sam gets upset because it’s clear to him he’s in a different class than Holly and it’s uncomfortable for him because he feels like a charity case.
The next morning in San Cristobel, Michelle is still not happy with Danny and she forces him to choose, either her or his family. He is exhausted and says of course he chooses Michelle, but he still has to somehow find $2M to get them out of this problem, which continues to upset Michelle. Surprisingly, Michelle says she has a trust that her family set up for her and she can use that to cover the $2M, but Danny refuses and they argue yet again, with Michelle telling him to go to hell. She storms outside, now to the remote location pool, takes off her robe and jumps into the pool naked. Danny walks out and jumps in too and pulls her in and kisses her, saying he will always love her.
Josh, Cassie, Richard and Olivia search the palace grounds the next morning and still can’t find Reva. As they’re meeting together, Edmund comes in and Cassie lunges at him, demanding to know where Reva is. Edmund says Reva is alive for now, but in a place where she can’t get out and will eventually die in a few hours if they don’t agree to his terms. We then see a shackled Reva inside the cave, in a water pit that is slowly filling up as natural water slowly rains in. She helplessly tries to break free, as she splashes about, still in her ball gown. More water starts gushing into the pit and she screams out for Josh. Richard and Edmund start arguing about family betrayal and Richard starts to strangle Edmund, demanding to know where Reva is, but Josh pulls him off. Edmund then reveals his terms - Richard must abdicate the throne so that he, Edmund, can rule San Cristobel instead. Richard refuses, but Josh tries to convince him to do it for Reva’s sake. Richard finally says he’ll abdicate, but Edmund says he doesn’t believe him so he takes Cassie hostage and points his gun at the men. He leaves with Cassie and tells the men not to follow them or he’ll kill Cassie. We then see a location shot where Edmund pushes Cassie away and jumps into his convertible, leaving her there outside, while he drives off. Two little kids come upon the cave and hear Reva screaming to them for help, but they’re scared, thinking it’s a ghost, and they run away. Richard and Josh then run out to the parking lot and Richard gets in a jeep while Josh hops on a motorcycle and they both chase after Edmund through the winding roads of the island for several scenes. The water is now up to Reva’s neck and she’s screaming out to God, asking for help and promising she’ll never leave her kids again if he saves her. Richard takes a muddy path in his jeep and cuts off Edmund on the main road. Richard pulls him out of the car and they wrestle a bit until Edmund runs off while Richard chases him. Josh shows up to the cars and continues riding to meet up to the guys, who are now fighting near a cliff. Richard is able to throw Edmund’s gun over the cliff into the ocean as they continue to wrestle. They start going over the edge of the cliff and Edmund is now clinging onto Richard’s leg as Josh arrives. Josh tries to pull Richard up, which makes Edmund fall to what seems to be his death! Richard starts yelling at Josh and punches him for killing his brother and losing their chance at finding Reva, and Josh punches back, screaming at him for putting them in this mess. We then see more water come into the pit, while Reva is screaming for help, with only her face and mouth now out of the water (cliffhanger!).
Olivia runs to her sister’s and kisses Jonathan and tells her the two of them need to leave the country immediately, but Cassie secretly followed Olivia and walks in, telling them they’re not going anywhere. Cassie then says hi to Jonathan for the first time, but Olivia makes him go upstairs with her sister and Olivia then tells Cassie she can’t tell him the truth about Reva being his mother. Cassie tells Olivia she could never have fallen in love with a man and married him while knowing his son was alive/not dead, like she had done with Richard. Cassie then pushes Olivia into a closet and locks it. As Olivia yells out, Jonathan walks in and Cassie tells him to come with her, enticing him by saying they’re going to a castle and meeting a prince. As they walk out, Olivia’s sister and her husband, Alfred, walk up and Jonathan runs to his ‘dad’ and he takes Jonathan back inside. Olivia, now out of the closet, and her sister plead with Cassie not to take Jonathan away from them, the only parents he’s known.
Josh and Richard stop fighting and Josh asks him where Edmund would have taken Reva. Richard thinks back to Edmund as a boy and how much he loved the water and exploring the caves, so they jump on the motorcycle and head that way. We then see Reva fully submerged in water, eyes open, and she flashes back to scenes from her life: a younger Josh/Reva in swimsuits kissing by the fire, their wedding, the birth of one of their kids, kissing on a beach, realizing Cassie and Tammy are part of her family, and making love most recently. Her eyes are then closed and the water keeps pouring over her submerged body. The guys finally reach the cave and Josh jumps into the water pit and finds an unconscious Reva. Under water, he realizes she’s shackled and he panics (Friday cliffhanger!). Josh pulls her out enough to get her head above water while Richard holds her, and Josh then finds a rock to break the shackles free. They pull Reva out and Josh starts mouth to mouth, trying to get her to come alive. Reva finally breathes and wakes up, thinking she is dreaming. After Josh/Reva kiss and reunite, she notices Richard and asks if he’s ok and he says his brother is dead. Reva says things aren’t over though, because they need to bring their son home.
Matt, Jim, Danny and Michelle all arrive at the palace worried because Cassie never showed up. They decide to split up and look for everyone, but a large group of guards surround them. The lead guard announces that one of their cohorts has pushed Edmund over a cliff to his death and Prince Richard is still missing, which shocks them all. The guard accuses the group of being terrorists and escort them all away by force. Reva, Josh and Richard arrive back at the palace to prepare to look for Olivia and Jonathan, but a guard is happy to see Richard and tells them that they captured the traitors. Richard asks who he’s talking about and he says Danny Santos and his American friends were captured and they’re about to face a firing squad, which panics Reva and Josh. We then see Matt, Jim, Danny and Michelle up against a wall, their hands tied, screaming, as several guns are pointed at them. The lead guard starts to say ready, aim… and it cuts to Reva crying alone on the terrace. Jonathan then walks up, along with Cassie and Olivia, and he asks Reva why she’s crying, and she realizes it’s Jonathan (cliffhanger!).
Harley and Frank have coffee and Frank rags on Harley for having a nanny, given their poor upbringing. Frank also talks about how sad he is for not being there for the birth of her son (which yeah, that’s weird he was shut out of that!). Buzz stops by and they ask Frank what’s troubling him, and he finally opens up about how he’s still conflicted about the Spauldings. Harley says it’s time to get over the Coopers vs. Spauldings crap, but Frank says he wonders how Eleni would have ended up if she had married into the Spaulding family instead of him, but Harley says that Eleni never loved Alan-Michael the way she loves him. Frank says he hasn’t been able to support Eleni like a Spaulding could, and he’s ashamed that they’re living in a boarding house above Company. Harley says it’s just temporary, but Frank says he wishes he could provide for his family and give them a real home like Phillip can for Harley and his family. Buzz then says he wants to buy Frank a house (since he won that lottery way back when), and Frank is shocked. Frank is thankful, but says he’ll talk to Eleni first and let him know, but Buzz says he expects to have them in their new home by Thanksgiving. Finally, they bring up Eleni, but it’s a shame that we never saw the aftermath of Eleni being upset with Frank after Annie’s trial many months ago.
