In regards to Clare, I wonder if Long was setting up a Post Partum story for the character that would have explained the change in her behavior post-Michelle's birth, but when she left as head-writer in early 1986... the follow up writers just went about making her seem nuts and wrote in the brain tumor story.
I wonder that because by 1990, Long finally did a post partum story with Reva that spanned about five months until it led to Reva driving off the bride and being persumed dead. Post Partum episodes like Reva's isn't out of left field and was little talked about during that era.

This practically screams, "OH MY GOD, we totally f***** up when we wrote out most of the Bauers!" 😂 I bet if they had AI back then they would have generated a faux Bert.
The baby storyline did anything but "touch the heart." They trashed Claire's character in order to make it acceptable that Ed and Maureen took custody of the baby. Then they retroactively tried to erase that by giving Claire a brain tumor, or whatever. So many better ways they could have handled that story.

I can at least understand why Olivia was kept around, she moved plot. But disgust barely scratches the surface. I don't know if it was how CC chose to play the character, or if the writers kept doubling down and making her unrootable on purpose. Olivia is a bigger bastard than Alan. Or at least a more believable villain. Had the show lasted another year, she would've reverted back to being a bastard and not the sap Natalia had tied up in knots.

BTG: August 2026 Discussion Thread

I've absolutely loved the past two weeks of BTG. It truly feels like a community.
Hayley's inevitable downfall, has been so fun to watch. All of the puzzle pieces connecting and the different characters putting it all together has been impressive and I applaud the writers.
I'm glad Nicole is going to be with Kial. I think they have great potential with future drama coming the more we get to know Kial and his past.
I love Ashley Jones' portrayal as Heather and I can't wait to see the chaos she is bound to cause. I suspect she's the one texting Andre and faux bonding with Dani.
I felt badly for Tyrell. He's way too hyper focused and I understand why Jessica dumped him but I hope this breakup doesn't lead him down a dangerous path.

I don't think it would have worked with Holly---a character they audience had known for decades.
Personally, I thought it was BS for Olivia as well. I suppose it was going to be impossible to sell Olivia as bisexual to GL's audience, but it would've seemed more honest.
