The Guiding Light 1967

Killing off Robin was a grisly thing to do, and I have always loathed that decision. Gillian Spencer was wonderful in the role. And with Robin's death, another member of Meta's circle bit the dust, weakening her ties to the canvas even further.😪

While it was grisly, I actually think that theme went with what the show was about... death and tragedy. It's why I think the Maureen death in early 1993 didn't surprise me because Guiding light was all about that... but it was the wrong character to do that to.

At least in this case, Robin had a multi year decline and I think this story really highlighted mental health, post-partum depression (miscarriage when she was far along in her pregnancy had to have caused some hormonal adjustments), and an unstable upbringing. The ending was sad, but it fit with the character.

It's why to this day why I wish when Reva drove off the bridge in 1990, I was hoping her body would have been found. It would have been a tragic ending to a character that shone too bright too often that her light literally went out.

Hey Paul. Agnes' last script was December 2, 1966. The Ferros started December 5, 1966. Although I'm not 100% sure about that. I'm 100% sure that the Ferros started by, at least, December 5, 1966 but

The show had been badly crippled in the 1980s, and was finally repairing itself and offering quality drama again in the early 1990s. Then TPTB made the baffling, destructive choice to slaughter TGL's matriarch, which undid so much of the work done to stabilize Springfield in the last few years. This has gone down as one of the worst blunders in TGL history; a definitive nail in the coffin.

I understand your analysis and its validity, but having Chuckie, Kathy and Robin all die grisly deaths was too much for me. And just on a canvas standpoint, it really isolated Meta as so many of her ties to other characters kept snapping.

Reva's death would have been a blessing in disguise to the show. It would have saved us the pain of Reva the Ghost, Reva the San Cristocrapian Queen, Reva the Amish, Reva the Clone, Reva the Time Traveler, and all the other stupidity foisted upon the audience in the name of this over-used (and so badly-used) character.

The obsessive fixation on this one character was bad for the show.

How did Robin die? I remember her with her stepson. Someone told me he caused her miscarriage. I was young but my mother was pregnant with my little sister, so I understood the implication
