Yes to this. Carly was still Sonny’s enabler/defender up to the Nina/Mike reveal with Nixon Falls. While she still has moments, it’s not as in your face and deeply loyal as it used to be. Jax would play ball just to keep some semblance of peace until he was ready to do something about Sonny himself.

I often wondered about the Jax character missing from the canvas especially with everything going on with Joss and Carly.

Is it time for him to return? If so, with the original actor Ingo R or a recast?

Correct. Jax was willing to play the game because he wanted to keep Joss in his life, which was the most important thing. I don't see him giving Joss any nitty gritty details about Sonny/Carly to this day. Jax spent 25 years telling everyone in town how sucky Sonny was and no one listened. I hope Jax is living his best life surfing in Australia with a non-Sonny related woman. Ingo aside, Jax was one of the few non villain characters to speak the truth about the Jason/Carly/Sonny toxicity and actually tried to help.

Jax was one of my favorites for that exact reason. The rest of the town acted like Jax was taking crazy pills for pointing out their bull.

It's right for Joss to hate Sonny, even if I frankly suspect they have her say those things because they know it'll get a subset of the audience on Eden's side (the same way RC used to have serial killer Franco suddenly be outraged by the mob lol). For all the reasons people have enumerated Joss should absolutely hate him. That "Uncle Sonny" shít used to turn my stomach. If Joss, recast or otherwise, took time off and came back as a socialite schemer enacting a plot against Sonny's business interests on behalf of her father I wouldn't squawk.

I will forever maintain one of the biggest mistakes Carly ever made was letting Jax get away. That man raised her sons like his own and gave them a stable and loving home. He was devoted to them, Sonny or no Sonny. They were comfortable there and comfortable with him. It wasn't the hottest pairing on Earth but Laura and Ingo worked well together. Throwing him over for Sonny with what happened is one of her core sins.

Jax and Carly worked for me. He was almost always coming from a good place. With the boys, with Carly, and the showed framed it like he was always jealous of Sonny. Which might be the truth, but I never thought Jax's intentions were ugly or sinister.

I agree; I adored them as a pairing, but a certain someone had to be a nasty, no-good piece of shït and ruin it.

I separate the character from the actor and I think Jax was a solid character. Ingo might have ruined his own career, but I don't think Jax is off the table in the future once the lawsuits are done and they can find a recast.

IIRC, lawsuits have been done for some time. But I am sure ABC isn't rushing to recast anytime soon to prove their point that there was no intention to recast.
