Looking back at the history of Generations, which was created by Sally Sussman... a strong producer came in and helped steer the ship in the right direction so I think what MVJ needs is someone to help steer her in the right direction.

I also think that MVJ mentioned the Dobson's and how much they influenced her when she worked for Santa Barbara (I think she went there after Generations was canceled so she only got to work with them when they were not at their A-game).   So some of what we're seeing is very Santa Barbara coded as well.

It also explains how she's writing Leslie/SPS because I could have seen Robin Mattson's Gina trying on wigs, having disguises and alias, having fantasies (which she did seem to have a fantasy about Wheel of Fortune), and was a thorn in the side of the Capwells (sort of like how SPS is a thorn in the Dupree side).

I think the biggest problem is that there haven't really been any soap opera writing classes/trainings in well over a decade... and that can be an issue when launching a soap opera 25+ years after the last new soap was launched.

As for Hayley, I just don't think there was ever intended to be the kind of character there that people imagined for her sight unseen. She's always been just this. Could she be more, sure, but she's kind of an afterthought and plot device to me atm.

It’s sad because she was somewhat given a strong POV that first week as a counterpart to Dani, and this show really needed some scrappy strivers who were Dupree outsiders. Eva/Leslie have eclipsed her in that respect, but they are played by exceptional actors. MG is very uneven. The writing for her hasn’t done her any favors either. She had that scene with Leslie at Orphey Gene’s, and I thought maybe they’d collaborate on that fake pregnancy scheme against Bill and Dani. Just feels like a bunch of stories with Hayley were set up and dropped either because they realized MG was limited or they decided to focus on other stories. But the writing did feel like they were building something with her initially.

Hayley was very symbolic and one of the most important characters in the beginning. I mean she is the one slapped in front of the entire town. Can't get more important than that. It's evident from 100 km away... that they had a much bigger plan for her... And there is still time to give her that arc. Let's hope they do.

Well, I already knew people were going to have an issue with the Doug/Vanessa/Joey storyline taking the center of attention during this good week. I don't mind being in the minority. That does not take away from the fact that of the B storylines introduced on this show (Dani/Andre being the other), I felt it has been developed enough that it could be the center of attention (also loved Dani/Andre also was solid along with it). And this week is proving that versus the June storyline which I said was not ready the week they made it the center of attention for the reveal.

The discussion I've seen here makes me think of how I felt about the A story of Dani/Bill/Hayley. I won't wax poetic over my thoughts about that again, but I will say this. It was my least favorite of the A stories introduced and it says something that I'm impatient for them to get back to it now when I've picked on them for going back to that well too soon. Just like with Bill's stroke, the recent Dani/Andre shenanigans is the perfect thing (and developing Hayley though it's clear she's just a spoiler for Dani/Bill and has been since Episode 3 at least) to keep the story relevant though I'm ready to get back to the baby lie part of the storyline.

Amber's hair stays looking good.

Ugh! Why would SilkPress move in there with Eva? She has her own money.

I always love them and have missed them. I love seeing Mona. And it's a great and creative way for the writers to do recap that feels organic IMHO.

Perhaps...it can be Mona, Jan, and June since SilkPress is out of the 'group?'

And this is why Jacob is a detective. Already figured out that Shanice knows about Derek, too. That said...Ben Gavin's dark look is kinda mmm. But I'm liking the Dark Derek storyline as a C plot.

Loving the Vanessa/Nicole scenes. Nicole connecting the dots. Vanessa feeling all that guilt.

Oops. Marcel vs Joey.

I knew on Wednesday when Doug heard Joey and went off on Vanessa before hanging up... I knew that the biggest tragic thing would happen.   Doug would die hurt by Vanessa's deceit while Vanessa will forever be haunted by her guilt over the last conversation with Doug ending on a very bad note.

So seeing Vanessa today is a combination of guilt, grief, and regret rolled into one.   While others are gaga over the Dani/Bill/Hayley story.. my fav stories are the Joey/Vanessa story arc and the Tomas/Kat/Eva triangle.

I think there is enough for everyone to enjoy... the show just needs to work on balance a bit better.

Aha!!!! No wonder Marcel and Smitty had that scene. Crooked Cop storyline still in play.

I am looking forward to seeing Vanessa's twins.

Hehe. Get her, Eva! Remind SilkPress she locked you out of the apartment.

Hehe. Good Marcel vs Joey scenes.

Shanice is love.

Jacob, I love you, but SHUT UP. lol. It's funny how a secret can make that part of the canvas so interesting to me. lol.

Agreed.

Idk why they're getting so upset. We've always been a tough crowd here at SON 😂😂
