Well Gretel came on and said "By know you will all know that Ashley and John have been evicted and that they will have some sort of footage or something during the show. (not sure exactly what she meant)

But she also mentioned that she will be talking to both Ashely and John at 9.40 pm.

Ashely and John have just been called to the diary room, and Camilla is going to be taking about it.

Message that is on the website.

Statement

Network Ten and Big Brother producers, Endemol Southern Star, today reaffirmed their commitment to the highly popular television program and confirmed Big Brother adheres to all broadcasting codes of practice and all relevant rules and regulations.

No footage of the incident that led to housemates Ashley and John being evicted was broadcast on television, nor would it be.

This is a closed police matter.

TEN and ESS proactively invited the Queensland Police to view the footage, and they subsequently interviewed housemate Camilla, who reiterated she did not wish to take the matter forward.

While the footage was never broadcast, and will not be, TEN and ESS will fully cooperate with any Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) investigation, and we are confident that we have upheld the Television Industry Code of Practice and any other broadcasting law or regulation.

Ashley and John were evicted because they broke the rules of housemate conduct. Big Brother is very popular, as evidenced by the strong and broad audiences it draws every night of the week, and will remain on air.

Good. I hate how John and Ashley were removed, but frankly, it's kinda nice that the three boring males were out one right after the other, LOL.

Poor Camilla. That situation really could of escalated. I'm sure the boys were kidding around, but that's just not something you do! Hold someone down and whack your dick in their face? Sorry for being so graphic, but you just don't do that.... Both of those guys seemed really grounded and nice, so for them to do that ... sigh. You just never know.

Calls to axe Big Brother TV sleaze

Ben Packham and Sarah Wotherspoon

03jul06

CHANNEL 10 is under pressure to drop its high-rating Big Brother program after an alleged sexual incident that caused two housemates to be evicted.

Police said there was not enough evidence for a criminal investigation.

Victorian housemate Camilla Halliwell, 22, has received counselling and spoke to police, but Channel 10 said she decided not to file a complaint.

Housemates John, 21, whose real name is Michael Bric, of Melbourne, and Ashley, 20, real name Michael Cox, of Perth, were escorted from the Big Brother house by security on Saturday.

They were removed after what the show's producers said was a breach of the rules about 4.30am.

Talking to Big Brother after the incident, Camilla said she would leave any repercussions from the incident to Big Brother.

"It was something that happened just in fun and I wasn't offended as such, but I did think they took it a little bit too far," she said on Big Brother last night.

"But we laughed it off and as soon as I said enough is enough it stopped, so I'm going to leave it up to Big Brother whether or not he wants to discuss it with the relevant housemates.

"I've known these guys for a while and we were just mucking around."

Host Gretel Killeen said on the eviction show last night both men would have a chance to tell their side of the story in an exclusive interview on Ten this week.

In a joint statement after they were thrown out of the house, Cox and Bric said: "We had a great time in the house.

"It's unfortunate it had to end this way but Big Brother has rules and regulations and we broke them. We're all very close in the house and we'd never do anything to offend fellow housemates."

Ten alleged the rule breached was: "Housemates may not intimidate, threaten or act violently towards any other housemate . . . they must take all care to ensure that sexual attention is invited and that consent to any sexual contact is mutual and informed."

Internet footage showed John lying in bed beside Camilla holding her from behind while Ashley knelt over her and put his crotch in her face.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman confirmed they had received no formal complaint. "The producers of the program contacted police inviting them to view a video of an incident," she said.

"Following that viewing and, after speaking to the three Big Brother participants and producers, police say at this stage there is insufficient evidence for any criminal investigation."

Producers decided to evict Mr Cox and Mr Bric after consultation with the NSW Rape Crisis Centre and Sydney University Assoc Prof in Media Studies Catherine Lumby.

Ms Lumby said yesterday she told the producers the male housemates had crossed the line.

"There is a complete difference between sexual behaviour and sexual assault," she said.

Anti-sleaze campaigners called for the show to be taken off the air over the incident, which was not aired on TV but was live on the internet.

Communications Minister Helen Coonan has asked the Australian Communications and Media Authority for an urgent ruling. She said Ten had not breached TV codes as the incident was not on air, but it may have breached sections of the communications laws relating to internet content.

Senator Coonan said she found the show distasteful but would await advice from the regulator before taking any action.

The incident follows the axing of Big Brother Adults Only after pressure from Coalition MPs.

Family First MP Steve Fielding said the show should be axed.

"It's disgusting," Senator Fielding said. "It legitimises behaviour that is not acceptable anywhere.

"The question is how many more sleazy incidents need to occur before the show itself is evicted?"

Opposition Leader Kim Beazley said the show should not return next year. "If my advice is worth anything to the folk who run Channel 10 . . . I'd say, 'Make this Big Brother the last'."

Ten spokeswoman Margaret Fearn said Camilla had spoken to an in-house psychologist and decided not to file a complaint.

"We immediately spoke to Camilla and she said she didn't want to take it any further," Ms Fearn said. "This wasn't part of the TV program and it will not be part of the TV program . . . we've scrupulously adhered to all broadcasting guidelines."

The father of Victorian contestant John said: "It was a joke that got a bit out of hand."

Housemate Ashley's mother yesterday said the incident had been blown out of proportion.

Big Brother has been a huge ratings success for Channel 10, with the nightly program regularly attracting 1.1 million viewers, and up to 1.4 million watching evictions.

It shouldnt have happened but I thought it was blown out of proportion bc I saw the video clip. John had his arms around her but he was barely pinning her like it was made out. They were all fooling around and having fun and I dont think anyone meant anything of it. Even Camilla was laughing and didnt make a big deal out of it. They did break the rules and had to go out though.

I liked those guys and Gaelen and hate that they are out. I hate that David used the twist on Darren. He's so boring. I hope Perry doesnt leave bc she's my favorite. She's so direct and spices up the place. I love how she picks on Camilla. Its really funny. I didnt think Id say this but Im really enjoying her as well and I want either her or Perry to win, followed by Jamie.

I actually think Jamie could end up winning. Everyone keeps saying David is the favorite. He might be ... but wasn't Tim the favorite last year and Greg/David won ... anything is possible. I'm still annoyed Vesna got third. LOL.

Yes Tim was the favourite last year.

You know that the arena for FNL is not as big as it seems. It surprised me when I went into the BB house last year.

FNL - this week is in honor of INDEPENDANCE DAY. The HM are dressed up as football players.

lol the first task

three HM are drssed as footballs and need to make it to the other side for a touchdown, the other three are footballers that have to try and stop the footballs.

    • I definitely think it's time to write off Nina for good. I think her killing Drew might actually be a good idea. She could completely lose it after losing both Sasha and Willow and she ends up murdering Drew and eventually she gets caught and sent away to prison for a long time.
    • I hope it's okay to post this here(as in from DC)
    • Quick question - did Christie and Leann share any scenes together in the '80s before Leann left the show?
    • This is the perfect way to encapsulate the situation. So many morally-reprehensible stories were foisted on the show and its characters in ATWT's dwindling years. Rape should never be used as a cheap plot device or in a way that degrades the victim. Jack's sexual assault was another heinous example of how nasty the the show's tone had become. The fact that people like Hogan Sheffer, Ron Carlivati, Jean Passanante, Charles Pratt, Dena Higley, etc., somehow end up winning awards for their material, decimates the credibility and integrity of the awards, IMHO. Soaps used to have a solid moral core and did not originally wallow in the gutter, rolling around in filth and depravity just to be cool, hip, campy, or whatever else modern-day PTB aim for. Thank you. Cruelty, degradation and misogyny are not components which lend themselves to successful soaps, which have always been predicated on warmth, family bonds, and providing a comforting haven for their audience. The genre has been crippled because the cynical and ignorant executives in charge understand neither the shows nor what the audience wants to see.
    • Beverlee was on a whole other level from Kim. It's not like they were in competition with each other. I get the feeling that Kim had a slight problem with the super-professional, serious cast members who just wanted everyone to be prepared and do the work, as she seems to like having fun on set. (She's made a few cracks about Chris Bernau being like that). Bev was definitely one of those. But they didn't work together that much. Yeah, they made her manic and also much weaker. She always had a vulnerability, but wanting to kill herself over that guy? No way. Not only that, he didn't leave her! She insisted he marry Maeve. When they did the tribute to Bert/Charita, the compilation of scenes with her showed how much the cast had been almost totally turned over in a relatively short period of time. Nearly every shot was of her by herself because most people she had worked with had been fired, left or been replaced. I assume they couldn't show her with people who hadn't been replaced, like Don Stewart, Elvera Roussel, or Robert Newman because they would have had to pay them for using their clips. It's dreadful to watch. Like she had no connection to the current show.

    • A little too much focus on Chad and Cat today but I enjoyed the episode. I have a feeling that Jennifer’s gonna get dumped on though, even though I think that her anger is completely understandable and justified. And honestly, Ron is finally gone; Abigail can come back now.  But, welcome back, Anna! It was nice seeing Carrie have scenes with her mother. Christie Clark and Leann Hunley have never really had that many scenes together and to see them have them now is really nice. I’m glad that both of them were there to comfort Marlena too. Their words were definitely the thing that Marlena needed to hear. Btw, with all this talk of Noah, does it mean that he’s gonna be introduced soon? Amy, revealing that John changed her flat tire many years ago seemed a little random though. I would rather she have said something about how everybody in Salem knows of John Black because of how he was always such a hero. But at the same time, her story also showed what a great guy John was.  I liked Kate’s scenes with Philip too, and her promise to get back at Xander for what he did. And since we didn’t see JPL in the bed, did he need some time off or something? And yeah, everything involving ‘One Stormy Night’ still seems very Ron-like to me.
    • The second photo featuring the late John Spencer is from the Law & Order episode, "Prescription For Death", which was the (second) pilot/first episode all the way back in 1990! He played the father of a daughter that had gone to the ER for a mere sore throat but ended up dead because the doctor on call was drunk and had given her medication that she had an adverse reaction to, after receiving some other medication. So, he will always have that great distinction in addition to The West Wing. (The first pilot, "Everybody's Favorite Bagman", was filmed in 1988! The show was offered to CBS, but they passed. In syndication, it is oddly placed as the sixth episode of Season 1. And Roy Thinnes played DA Alfred Wentworth there. When NBC picked up the show two years later, Thinnes declined to return, and that's how we got Steven Hill's DA Adam Schiff.)
