GH: Former Y&R actor joins cast in recast

Rory was never really allowed a chance to *do* anything on Y&R, so it will be interesting to see what he can bring here. It's too bad they already cast Bryce Durfee as Vaughn because I think he would have possibly made a great Michael, he seems like a really decent actor and has a pretty commanding presence and lots of charisma just for Joss' flavor of the month. Hopefully, They're both a part of the Magic Milo performance...

Glad they didn’t wait on Chad either

GH is leaps and bounds better than YR to me (tho I guess as an actor its the less strenuous gig).

I’m sure this Michael return will be more meaty than whatever bs JG scribbled on his writers board at the last minute for BF to play

Well tbf, there are only two people...maybe three...in here that I don't recall having a problem with Robert Adamson subbing for Michael. And have mentioned it every time he has subbed. And I believe he has always been on Liberty's wishlist for taking over for Chad.

Well one, I don't stan anyone.

Two, I am privy to what RA said or done, hence why I said what I said previously.

Three, if he said something disparaging against the show, he ain't the first actor. Won't be the last. Hell, majority of actors speak out the side of their necks against their employers.

Michael should've been gone til at least November sweeps (if not longer). Let Willow and Drew's nonsense and schemes with/against? each other take on more of its own life on canvas.

Rory Gibson seems lethargic, but maybe he'll surprise me. I def would not have picked Adamson, I would've gone entirely outside daytime.

To be clear, I'm not suggesting Robert Adamson should've gotten the role but I do think the way Frank does things is shady and that is a good example. He was good enough to be a fill-in for years but you couldn't let him audition? It reminds me of when AW made Ellen Wheeler audition for a part she won an Emmy for. In both cases the actor didn't get it but at least Wheeler was given a chance to audition.

This I agee with 100%. It makes me so sad to think he's finally leaving Days and is likely going to be in a throwaway role on Y&R. He would've been an asset to ANY of the soaps on air and that is where he ended up?

Yeah, Frank is gonna petty. And as long as he does, there will always be a part of the audience that will side-eye how he moves.

But seriously...I would probably wait for another sweeps to bring Michael back, too. If he is back, then at least let Michael be Dark Michael and give Willow the payback and give Drew a run for his money.

Same.

    • -- Maurice Johnson was fine as Ted, but Keith D. Robinson is also good in the role. They're different but both are solid actors. I'm already "over" Johnson being replaced, and I don't think this is worth a lot of discussion over....nor do I think the internet is going to discuss this for much longer. -- I also had no problem with Ted's blazer. -- The Derek and Jacob scenes were good. I'm getting more clues that Ashley is the problem in this story. And I'm sorry, Derek isn't the only one who should apologize for what happened. -- In other news, Ashley is still Basic. -- I'm still out on the Anita story. Why have Anita and Tracy bonded again? We should have heard at least something of what happened in the past to cause the break up of the group.     Instead we're told nothing so that we can wonder what "horrible" things happened to the group's 3rd member who has such an Anita problem. If this is just going to be a retelling of Diana Ross getting with Berry Gordy, becoming the star of the Supremes, and then striking out on her own, I don't want to hear it.      Besides, wasn't Miss Ross THE star of the group? Wasn't she THE money? Berry Gordy was right all along.      In addition, I'm looking side-eyed at Anita having all these regrets. She doesn't seem to be the type. She's a DUPREE!
    • Agree that today’s ep was a lot of fun. Lulu has some goddamned nerve, lol.
    • Music to my ears.   Same. It stands out so much more because of how clever it was done. Without any wink, wink.
    • I can conjure up a modicum of sympathy for Josh having to create stories based around restaurants sets, but it extends just so far...
    • Which so far I do. If anything it hypes me up for their own original tales.

    • I'm not concerned about when Paula and Jeanne's own stories start. They're doing a great job with what they were left with, so there's no reason we can't appreciate it all starting now.
    • This group is unbelievable and I am so thankful for all of the efforts made to get episodes that we all love into the vault. Thank you.
    • It's convoluted but the CBS soaps that were still on the air in the 2000s are all in the same universe because of Sheila Carter appearing on Another World as an alias named Shelly Clark who hated some unnamed characters that matched Eric and to Stephanie's description. In the 60s Mike Bauer from Guiding Light crossed over to Another World which linked their universes. Cass also appeared on Guiding Light. Now if the Sheila Carter connection is counted as just parody and not a crossover there is still a connection due to Emily Stewart appearing on Y&R looking for Alison.
    • Pete T Rich article undated from Berkshire Style website According to wikipedia All My Children Script Writer: 1994 - 1996 Days of Our Lives Script Writer: 1993, October 4, 2011 – July 27, 2012 Guiding Light Script Writer: 1984 - 1993, 1997–1999 Passions Script Writer: 1999 - 2008 Santa Barbara Script Writer: 1993 Welcome to the Soaps by Joseph Montebello Before there were miniseries and weekly comedy hours, there were soap operas. Those wonderful half-hour segments that came on every day, five days a week and captured the hearts of women and men alike. And if you are as old as I am, you will remember soaps on the radio. Every day I would arrive home from school and find my mother absorbed in the trials and tribulations of Backstage Wife or Stella Dallas or Lorenzo Jones. I knew enough to go quietly to my room as my mother sat totally absorbed in the dialogue. Thanks to writers such as Pete Rich, television soap operas reigned supreme for many many years and some of the memorable characters he wrote for are still remembered fondly. Born in Atlanta, Rich moved to New York after college with the dream of becoming a comedy writer. “My friend Gail Lawrence and I were in this together,” he said, “and we had an interview with a man at ABC comedy development. He told us that one had to live in Los Angeles in order to write comedy for television. So off we went, only to discover that Bob Hope was looking for writers.” In the category of “too good to be true,” Rich and his friend did, indeed, get a job writing for Hope and, at 25 years old, they were the youngest writers he had ever employed. Unfortunately, a writers’ strike brought everything to a halt, so Rich and Lawrence moved back to New York. As luck would have it, the man from ABC who had encouraged them was now at NBC, and was looking for writers for a soap called The Doctors. “In the ’80s, when television soap operas were in their prime, they had a captive audience of housewives and college kids,” said Rich. “The shows got huge ratings and, compared to prime time shows, they were cheap to produce. The profits were staggering and it was rumored that daytime paid for prime time.” That was the beginning of Rich’s stellar career in the soaps which lasted almost 30 years. He will share his favorite memories of life on the soaps at the Women’s Forum, at the Litchfield Community Center Thursday, March 2nd, at 2:30 PM. In addition to The Doctors, he penned scripts for Guiding Light, listed in Guinness World Records as the longest-running drama in television in American history—it was broadcast on CBS for 57 years—All My Children; Days of Our Lives; Santa Barbara, and Passions, Rich’s favorite show. His talent was acknowledged with six Daytime Emmy Awards and two awards from the Writers Guild of America. With such a stellar career, Rich has written many classic scenes and memorable dialogue and being asked to mention just one is like asking a mother to choose her favorite child. “Soaps opera lovers may remember what is considered one of the classic moments of daytime television when Reva Shayne on Guiding Light took off her clothes in a public fountain and baptized herself “the Slut of Springfield” to her crippled boyfriend, Josh. The speech went on for about five minutes as Reva basically had a meltdown. Actress Kim Zimmer won an Emmy for her acting and the episode itself received an Emmy as well. In true soap fashion, after Reva was taken home, she woke up in bed to find Josh watching her from his wheelchair. They made love, she cured his paralysis and made it rain–so potent a woman was she.” In their prime, soap operas managed to combine reality with incredibly convoluted plots and character studies. Where else could one find tortured men and women who fell in love, suffered infidelities, murder, lust, mysteries, lies, and secrets? “I think the days of soaps are really behind us,” said Rich. “The Internet has allowed everyone access to everything at anytime. And life has become so fast-paced that few people have five afternoon hours a week to devote to a show. Plus, reality TV, You Tube, and social media all entertain people in a customized way. Today what’s on the news is more outrageous and shocking than any soap ever was.” But we all have memories of those days when soaps held us rapt for that magical hour every day. Rich retired from writing for television and now spends his time decorating houses, designing gardens and writing fiction for fun.
    • I found the ATWT reference to be cleverly done and I enjoyed it. I thought this was another great episode. I'm starting to love Jacob and Naomi as the grounded good guys. June has brought the best out of both of them and both of them have made Derek more bearable.
