I did not intend to imply anything about Holly's age, except that not every character celebrates their birthday on screen.  I was commenting upon when Sophia might turn 18 and be able to consent on her own for an abortion.

The flunking issue is also separate from her age.  I was wondering if they're all seniors, or if Holly and Tate were left behind because they missed so much school, and we know neither attended summer school.

So, if Holly and Tate were held back, and they're a year older than Sophia, it would make sense why she might not turn 18 in time to abort the pregnancy.  Which explains how my convoluted thinking process works while I watch an episode.

I mean their schooling is messy.  Sophia's age isn't really weird.  I don't think Sophia is younger than Holly by much because they keep referring to her and Holly being friends since pre-school so they've always been the same grade. Sophia also said the other day Tate and her had sex ed class together when it was clear Tate was in boarding school in Cali until last year lol.

I don't believe Holly or Tate were held back.  It's been said many times Holly is really intelligent so could have made up the school work.

Same born in Feb.

But, I graduated HS at 16.  My folks jumped the gun at Kindergarten registration, so I started early.

Also they act intelligent, well, for a soap. Also they seem to care about school & homework & assignments. At one point didn't we see them looking up their grade once it was posted? Did I make that up or did it really happen?

In Feb, I've said I'm going to have a giant virtual birthday bash with a theme, Beyond the Gates as the theme. I've said I'm coming to my party as Rachel Thomason, a family friend of the Duprees. I just made that up on the spot. You can be in on it also. I just think it would be fun & I'm very excited about Beyond the Gates. Only virtual presents will be accepted. That goes without saying. Do you celebrate all month long? I do.

All this talk of John is still tough to hear. I wonder what this top secret ISA case is going to end up being about.

The Brady/Marlena scenes were really nice though. It’s always great to see Marlena shrinking Brady and I loved the Christmas gift that she got from him. And the one from John

And as much I hate Body&Soul, and hate what it’s done to Abe, I also loved the gift that Paulina gave to him. Btw, Abe’s Santa impression sounds a lot like his Stephen Nichols impression

I also enjoyed Lani/Kristen’s reunion. They have a great friendship and I’m glad that the talk with Lani managed to convince Kristen to let Brady see Rachel. I still think Kristen is played out though.  She should just be written off. And before she goes, needs to drop off her little demon spawn at Bayview.

Btw, Happy Birthday, Jules and Carver!

And congratulations, Tripp and Wendy! Too bad you’re not still on the canvas.

Did Kayla just call Roman "Roman Shawn Brady"?  Everyone knows his name is Roman Augustus Brady!!!  Seriously, the show can find a picture of John/Marlena/Belle/Brady from the mid 90's to put in a locket, but can't get a veteran character's name correct?

The Brady/Marlena scenes were nice.  Where was Belle?  I loved Marlena talking to Carrie and Sami.  Deidre looked lovely.  I like when she wears her hair up.  John's gift.

Oh, Rachel.  We always knew it was you but she's such a horrible devil spawn.  I love it!

Overall I liked today's episode a lot.

I dunno, Brady's and Shawn's gifts screamed, “I'll just grab some random sentimental crud on my way out of the door.”  Marlena's a chic lady, she's not going to wear that locket, and as I mentioned, Maggie doesn't need another picture of Victor.

They're really leaning into the Rachel-the-devil spawn today with all the snake references.  I don't know if the actress entirely pulled off the characterization (although she's more subtle than SH playing her mother).  I prefer when Rachel is acting sweetly, but you know she's thinking evil thoughts.  Rather than having both of her parents indulging her wicked side.  I mean, where's the fun if everyone is in on Rachel's game?  At the very least, Brady should be too dumb to know what's going on.

It's weird because I don't think Maggie/Shawn are close or that close?  It was a bit odd for him to give her that present.  Xander or Sarah would have been more appropriate.  Shawn should have been at the Horton's yesterday instead.

Brady's gift to Marlena at least felt more organic because Brady did say it was Isabella's locket.  Although considering all John's gifts over the years, Marlena has enough tacky jewelry to last a lifetime.  Like father like son lol.

And how do you mail someone strawberries and creme?  It didn't look like it was refrigerated, and we know Marlena doesn't have a kitchen.

It is funny given the BTS rumors that Maggie has magnificent jewels, while Marlena's got a closet full of blazers, a used locket, and a creepy doll of herself.

Lol!  I totally forgot he was there.  He even met Doug.  Sorry, BB, you are just forgettable as Shawn

I would say I hit the eggnog too hard yesterday or something to explain my memory lapse, but I watched at like 8 am

Well Marlena doesn't have a kitchen, but they do send those edible arrangements through the mail so I think it's possible

    • There has been some confusion about Michael & facial burns. Please see this post: https://bsky.app/profile/shallotpeel.bsky.social/post/3lqkrryu54226 I've chosen to put this here instead of the Classic Thread because it is now with the appearance of recast Michael that this has come up. Different places online, including at least one podcast, remarks have been made about how remarkable it is that he is without facial scarring. Other fans say it was clear from the first that he did not have facial burns. What is included in this post is 2 screengrabs where you can see his face at the hospital & a very quick edit of that day in the hospital.
    • Put me in the LOVE KMH camp. As a poster alluded to above, her detractors seem to come from people who first experienced the 80s Emily actress. And that's often the case with soaps, myself included. I enjoy the original actor so much that I just never take to the recast. However, KMH played Emily far longer than the original - for almost 20 years - and when she had great material, she was great. I get the sense she didn't like playing the whiny oh-woe-is-me Emily which was all the material she got from about 1996 until she took over the Intruder in late '99/early '00 and got to play a stronger kiss-ass woman who didn't care what anyone thought of her. (Some would call that a bitch but, if a man was in that role, he'd just be called a smart and savvy businessman.) Her relationship with Hal was great. The transformation was done realistically and I thoroughly enjoyed those years the best out of all. Once the writers decided to break up those two, they went back to writing Emily half the time as whiny and pathetic. I preferred when the writers made her stronger.
    • Hahaha - I do. I've always been the type, though, that can't miss anything. I get FOMO, so I'll not skip episodes or fast forward anything. There are only a few TV shows I've dropped because they got so bad vs. sticking it out to the end.  The promise that GL 1997 is better is what keeps me going. I especially want to see the fallout of Blake's lie about her twins and then Annie's descent which I believe won Watros's Emmy.
    • Rita's rape is an episode i constantly search on YouTube hoping one day that it will show up. I always feel like I may have seen it, but I was only 6 at the time and can never figure any of the things I have vague recollection of

FROM THE VAULT: NON-SOAP DAYTIME RATINGS: HIGHLIGHTS FROM AUGUST 1973 & NOVEMBER 1973:
    • The rape was in 1979 after they were married. Blake was the result of Holly cheating with him while she was married to Ed. I believe she was born in 1975.
    • No. Ed and Holly were married and having problems. She had an affair with Roger and that's when Christina--Blake--was conceived. The rape happened much later, after Holly and Roger were married.
