Well, respectfully, I totally & completely disagree as to Melissa Reeves. Quite honestly, there are SO many DAYS fans that do not want to see her - at all, ever again. Maybe you've not seen fans talking about it but I have. Some fans are hesitant to speak up about it, some places. Her continued presence in any regular fashion could cost the show long-time fans. Barring some change on her part: a come to Jesus moment, a mea culpa, an apology, etc. that is not going to be a situation that will improve, period. The people who are bothered by her are gritting their teeth to get through this week when she's on screen.

But, as to your overall idea about characters we know & love & show history before 1995 & the others you list, plus please Peter Reckell for sure & occasional visits from Christie Clark!!! YES, great idea.

I've watched this show for 40 years and I would not be interested in a show featuring any of the above. What on earth would they do? I can see some possibility for Steven yes, and Marie was feisty but we already have Maggie for that role. And I was a massive J&J fan but they are grandparents now and settled, so again, what is the story? We are already seeing how Belle and Shawn are stuck together (despite today's show we know they will reunite) and there is no real growth for their characters. We can't have a show that revolves around characters over 60. I don't think all of the younger cast work but certainly they can work with Xander, Sarah, Philip, Brady, Jada, Johnny and Chanel. And they have struck gold with Olivia who is vastly more interesting than the chosen couple of Holly and Tate.

IMO, I thought Cady knocked it out of the park when she played Jennifer for that stint. It was the first time I felt invested in the character of Jennifer for a very long time. She also gave the role a bit more bite. I was REALLLLLY hoping they would keep her full-time.

So, do we think we'll meet Spencer Olsen or (the confabulist in me), could it be that Doug the 3rd is lying, and he's really Spencer, which would explain why he didn't share any scenes with Steven?

Also, I know I've gotten everything wrong about Steven so far, but in the DAYS history book isn't his name spelled with a ph (Stephen)?

For anyone unaware, Cady McClain is the artistic director of a theater in New York.  She can do occasional visits to California for filming but I don't think she wants to work full time in Los Angeles.

Her work at the Axial Theatre has been her main job for several years.

(In the summer of 2023, she acted in a summer theatre show in New Jersey)

Cady was married to Jon Lindstrom for a long time and they were bicoastal with homes in Calif and NY.   Since they announced their separation 8 months ago, she's mostly in NY.

She is now also teaching acting in New York

-- Another good episode today, except for Leo who came close to ruining it. We really needed to see HIM in the Stephen scenes? I cannot understand the RC fascination for Leo, a character who always has to be "on."

-- I despise Melissa Reeves as a human, but to me she is Jennifer. I don't see anyone refusing to watch the show because she's playing the character. A recast might work, but I do not like Cady McClain in the part at all. I think she's over-the-top and melodramatic and just wrong in every way.

I want to see contemporary stories about the lives of young sexy people that are intriguing. The idea that those people are related to characters that I recall from forty years ago is nice.  But, a foolish adherence to nostalgia would rob future writers from creating dynamic new ideas.  And I doubt that the daily kvetching of an ex-nun and a retired lounge singer would bring in big audiences.

Also, much like I had sympathy for AZ for having to work with men that were disrespectful, I feel for actors like Elia Cantu and Lamon Archey who have to share scenes with an actor who has endorsed racists beliefs.  Everyone deserves respect in the workplace, regardless of how long another actor has played a part.

Looks like I was right about the jail scene not being a flashback.

What's up with the weird pronunciation of Robert's name? He never went by the English pronunciation of the name. Only the French. I thought Doug pronouncing it that way was an indication of Doug being an imposter and only having seen the name written but Marie called him by the English pronunciation as well. Weird. SSH should have corrected that error.

And isn't Salem supposed to be in the North? It's December and the leaves were all green at the outdoor memorial service and Ciara was practically naked.

Why was Mike not even mentioned? He's always the forgotten Horton. I don't dislike Lucas but you would think he's Jennifer's only sibling. I would much rather see Mike than Lucas.

    • There has been some confusion about Michael & facial burns. Please see this post: https://bsky.app/profile/shallotpeel.bsky.social/post/3lqkrryu54226 I've chosen to put this here instead of the Classic Thread because it is now with the appearance of recast Michael that this has come up. Different places online, including at least one podcast, remarks have been made about how remarkable it is that he is without facial scarring. Other fans say it was clear from the first that he did not have facial burns. What is included in this post is 2 screengrabs where you can see his face at the hospital & a very quick edit of that day in the hospital.
    • Put me in the LOVE KMH camp. As a poster alluded to above, her detractors seem to come from people who first experienced the 80s Emily actress. And that's often the case with soaps, myself included. I enjoy the original actor so much that I just never take to the recast. However, KMH played Emily far longer than the original - for almost 20 years - and when she had great material, she was great. I get the sense she didn't like playing the whiny oh-woe-is-me Emily which was all the material she got from about 1996 until she took over the Intruder in late '99/early '00 and got to play a stronger kiss-ass woman who didn't care what anyone thought of her. (Some would call that a bitch but, if a man was in that role, he'd just be called a smart and savvy businessman.) Her relationship with Hal was great. The transformation was done realistically and I thoroughly enjoyed those years the best out of all. Once the writers decided to break up those two, they went back to writing Emily half the time as whiny and pathetic. I preferred when the writers made her stronger.
    • Hahaha - I do. I've always been the type, though, that can't miss anything. I get FOMO, so I'll not skip episodes or fast forward anything. There are only a few TV shows I've dropped because they got so bad vs. sticking it out to the end.  The promise that GL 1997 is better is what keeps me going. I especially want to see the fallout of Blake's lie about her twins and then Annie's descent which I believe won Watros's Emmy.
    • Rita's rape is an episode i constantly search on YouTube hoping one day that it will show up. I always feel like I may have seen it, but I was only 6 at the time and can never figure any of the things I have vague recollection of
