It's good to have you back Tessa.

Thank you for saying so.

I just found out that the few months that Jennifer Bransford played Carly, the whole time the show was waiting for LW to be finished at Guiding Light.

The Laura Wright-Carly situation is when an iconic character ends up being played the longest by a capable actor who doesn't really suit it and eventually transforms it into something new they are comfortable with. But something always feels off.

Many examples on other shows as well.

Sometimes I think that is also when a character grows.

If SJB ever wanted to return, I’d happily drop LW in a NY minute. LW is competent and cares, but she’s never really been Carly to me either.

Unpopular opinion: I loved Jennifer Bransford.

She wasn't that bad of an actress... but she reminded me too much of Nancy Lee Grahn's Alexis.

You are right about that. But she had Carly's masculine energy, something I really miss with Laura Wright.

I think Bransford worked for the time she was in the role but could I see her in the role today? No, unfortunately. I still think Laura Wright was appropriately cast in the role... but the writing since the "writer" has really ruined the character, in creating her "untouchable" by everyone.

One of my best Jarly friends does, too. I find it imponderable. Me, I love Sarah Joy Brown. I also love Tamara Braun. Yes, I also love Laura Wright. WHO? That's right. I don't even count Jennifer Bransford. But, I will die on a hill to defend your right to love her. One of my not-so-secret wishes is for some soap to cast SJB & TB as sisters & give them both powerhouse roles.

Thank you for the tag! It’s funny we both said 5 and it was actually less 🤦🏽‍♂️

It is so wild to think it’s been this long and I still just see it as Laura Wright playing Carly instead of Carly as a character. I’ve grown to accept Laura since she’s obviously going nowhere but she still isn’t my favorite though she sells the Jason relationship impeccably.

YW. And oh God yes. I am curious to see if it's a case of guarantee or just the writing.

Not even when Carly walked into the mob meeting in the white suit while Sonny was lost in Nixon Falls?

Now, that was a very particular kind of Carly moment. It's true.

That was a power move that felt right. It made sense. I got everything Carly in that moment.

IKR!!! I've gotten used to LW as Carly but it's been more molded to LW's personality than LW becoming Carly. But THAT particular moment (and that brief period when she ran things) had CARLY written all over it and LW played it oooooh so well. To the hilt!!! I was watching my screen going...THAT! THAT...IS...CARLY. That meeting and there was one scene where she commanded the bodyguards with the quickness that I remember catching my eye. But alas, they had to make it about Jason and Carly showing mixed feelings as if Carly would have issues using the mob to cover each and every member of her family. I was smh.

I agree. My ultimate problem is how untouchable the character has been since the "writer" came in. I really am. Carly isn't flawed and if she is, it doesn't feel character-flawed.

This felt like Carly and that she was able to be touched by the other characters:

Yes, women grow, but everyone seemingly becoming Carly's bestie on the canvas (Alexis, Elizabeth, Sam etc) feels wrong. So wrong.

"And then he dumped you, because you are a raging B I T C H!" That line is iconic. Imagine someone calling her that now? Whew. Korte and co. wouldn't let that fly. And yes, Nancy Lee Grahn looked good here. Costume was on point, too.

But yes, very Carly scenes. I always refer back to these scenes, because of how well done they were. Would it surprise you that Shelly Altman was co-head writer at this point?

Hair. Makeup. Clothes. Everything was on point. And Alexis got great licks in.

It really was a great scene. Everyone gave as good as they got. No propping to be seen at all.

I have never disliked Shelly Altman. Now her co-writers on the other hand. ;)
