As expected, newcomer Sawandi Wilson (“Star Trek: Discovery”) has joined the cast of “General Hospital” as a contract player. He first appeared on the Monday, August 26 episode of the ABC drama series.

According to the end credits shown on Friday, September 6, Wilson’s character’s full name is Dr. Isaiah Gannon, a last name familiar to fans of the defunct “One Life to Live,” leaving many questioning if the character has ties to Llanview.

Thus far, the character had been imprisoned at the same refugee camp as Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson), but later escaped and made his way to Port Charles.

Shortly after leaving the airport, Isaiah found himself hit by a car during a struggle between Linda Boyle (Amor Owens) and Ava Jerome (Maura West). He was later transported to General Hospital thanks to Jason (Steve Burton) calling for emergency services.

Since arriving in the hospital, Jordan Ashford (Tanisha Harper) has been keeping a watchful eye on Isaiah, which has caused further fan speculation that the character has connections to Port Charles beyond meeting Lucky, or the greater ABC Daytime shared universe (ABCD-U) consisting of Llanview (“One Life to Live”), Pine Valley (“All My Children”), New York City (“Ryan’s Hope”) and Corinth (“Loving”).

Isaiah is the first all-new character introduced by the show’s head new writing team led by Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten, and associate head writer Cathy LePard.

With the addition of Wilson, “General Hospital” had 34 actors on contract as of the September 6, 2024 closing credits. However, with Adam J. Harrington (John “Jagger” Cates) exiting the series after his character was killed off in recent episodes, that number will soon drop to 33. That said, there are also reports that Charles Messure (Brennan) has been upped to contract status, but change has yet to materialize per the show’s current credits breakdown.

Last week, it was reported that Kristen Vaganos had been upped to contract status, marking the first time that her character, Molly Lansing-Davis, has appeared on screen with her portrayer credited as a regular cast member. Simultaneously, Jonathan Jackson’s name appeared in the credits for the first time since 2015, with his character said to be having a long run in Port Charles this time around, albeit when the character formally arrives in town after remaining a captive at the refugee camp.

Before joining “General Hospital,” Wilson was best known for playing Captain Leto in the 10th episode of the fifth and final season of the Paramount+ original series “Star Trek: Discovery.” His other TV credits include “High Maintenance,” “Quantico,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “Date. Love. Repeat.,” “Bull,” “The House of Flowers,” “Harlem” and even the Prime Video series “Dudes,” among others.

    • Looking at those totals it seems most contract actors are on a 1 or 2 week average guarantee. I assume contracts are still operating on 13 week cycles so you would have to know the particular actors contract starting date to work out their guarantee. The question remains as to what actors listed as contract are actually recurring? Bryton ?
    • Yep, that scene was at the conclusion of the Derek Thurston vs George Packard storyline, when Kay decided neither of them should run Chancellor.  By the time she put Victor in charge, Victor had been on the show for months & months with his Rolls Royce, his ranch, and Newman Enterprises.  SONY released some Y&R "trivia cards" in the late 1980s, and one of the questions was "who brought Victor Newman to Genoa City?" The answer on the back of the card is "Kay Thurston, to run Chancellor Industries", and it's a wrong answer lol.
    • I think someone said it did exist, but I can't remember.
    • The bit with the scarf reminds me of the fabled stuffed animal scene with Rick and Phillip. (That wasn't debunked, was it?)
    • Ohh, interesting. I instantly gravitated towards her in that episode. Of course I'm already hooked and want to know why she was trying to poison that older lady, but then how did the older lady know to switch the mugs so Susan drank her own poison...  but I have too many timelines I'm watching right now haha.  Oh, Bolger is definitely hot. I didn't realize he was on GL haha. I knew him from OLTL and other primetime stuff.
    • This is a effin shame. Eff Trump and eff the bastards that enable him.
    • I 100% agree but I think this is due to how the show is structured. It's a one family show which means there are no people in her age range that could be used as friends or contemporaries of her. The show definitely needs a second main family. I am glad someone finally said this. Especially now that the cast is gelling in their roles, he stands out like a sore thumb. No energy, no chemistry with anybody. He is just there.  I thought that was odd as well! The previous scene would've worked better as a tag for the credits.
    • That's the one and only Carrie Nye (Mrs. Dick Cavett) as Susan Piper, a deadly realtor. I don't want to spoil a lot if you ever want to see those episodes. She returns as another character in 2003. I think Grant has aged well and he always did a good job at being ripped without going too far, but he was never entirely my cup of tea either. I did think John Bolger was hot.
    • Totally agree. KKL looks great! It makes the Widge groveling so bizarre. Brooke needs to leave FC and with $B's/Liam's funding launch a rival fashion house with Hope, Rick, Katie and a secret designer. The best scenario is that Rick has been absent because he's been with very much alive C2, who is revealed on the runway as the secret designer. It'll never happen because B&B is comfortable just focusing on FC and the Forresters Marones v. Logans. But it'd been so much more interesting if the Spencers/Logans united.
