The 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards, Golden Globes, Nikki Glaser, CBS

Following her successful roast of Tom Brady earlier this year during Netflix’s highly watched special, “The Roast of Tom Brady,” comedian Nikki Glaser has been tapped by CBS to host “The 82nd Annual Golden Globes.”

Scheduled to take place on Sunday, January 5, 2025, LIVE from 8:00-11:00 p.m. ET/5:00-8:00 p.m. PT on CBS and streaming on Paramount+*, the Golden Globe Awards marks the official kick off of awards season.

Often referred to as “Hollywood’s Party of the Year,” the Golden Globes is the biggest awards show in the world when it comes to celebrating the best in both film and television. Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner of White Cherry Entertainment (WCE) are set to return as executive producers and showrunners, with Dick Clark Productions planning, hosting and producing the awards show that remains widely viewed across more than 185 countries and territories worldwide.

“The 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards” marks the second consecutive year in which the awards show will air on CBS after spending several decades at NBC. “The 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards” averaged 10 million viewers (Nielsen Live+7-Day national ratings) on Sunday, January 7, 2024, up nearly +50% from last year’s average, making it the largest audience for the awards show since 2020. The telecast was also the third-largest live-streamed CBS special event on Paramount+ ever in terms of AMA and reach.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Golden Globes. It’s one of my favorite nights of television and now I get a front-row seat (actually, I think I have to host from the stage),” said Glaser. “The Golden Globes is not only a huge night for TV and film, but also for comedy. It’s one of the few times that show business not only allows, but encourages itself to be lovingly mocked (at least I hope so). (God, I hope so). It’s an exciting, yet challenging gig because it’s live, unpredictable and in front of Hollywood’s biggest stars (who also might be getting wasted while seated next to their recent exes).”

Glaser continued, “Some of my favorite jokes of all time have come from past Golden Globes opening monologues when Tina, Amy or Ricky have said exactly what we all didn’t know we desperately needed to hear. I just hope to continue in that time-honored tradition (that might also get me canceled). This is truly a dream job. Plus, I no longer have to feel guilty for every TV show and movie I’ve binged over the past year. It was all worth it. (‘Below Deck: Sailing Yacht’ season four will be nominated, right?).”

“Nikki Glaser brings a fresh and unmatched candor to her comedy and to the Golden Globes,” said Jay Penske, chairman and CEO of Dick Clark Productions and Penske Media Corporation. “Her unapologetic style made her an obvious and compelling choice as host for this year’s event. We’re hopeful this could be the first of many Golden Globes where Nikki will surprise and delight our CBS audience, as well as our audiences around the globe.”

“Nikki Glaser is a comedic powerhouse whose daring and unfiltered humor is the perfect match for the Golden Globes,” said Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes. “She is sure to bring a unique energy and spontaneity to the show that will keep the audience entertained all night.”

“The Golden Globes has a rich history as a night for entertaining, provocative humor,” said George Cheeks, office of the CEO at Paramount Global and president and chief executive officer at CBS. “Nikki Glaser is a comedic force whose funny, bold and irreverent comedy will continue that legacy and further establish this special as a can’t-miss event on CBS.”

Known for her razor-sharp wit and fearless humor, Glaser has already established herself as one of the funniest voices in comedy today. In 2022, she headlined her first critically acclaimed HBO comedy special, “Good Clean Filth,” while earning an Emmy nomination for this year’s “Nikki Glaser: Someday You’ll Die,” which set the record for both the best premiere night for an HBO comedy special in more than two years and the largest streaming audience for a Comedy Special in HBO Max/Max history.

In 2021, Glaser launched “The Nikki Glaser Podcast” for iHeartMedia and Will Ferrell’s Big Money Players Podcast Network (BMP). She currently hosts and executive produces “Lovers and Liars,” a spinoff of the HBO Max and CW reality dating series “FBoy Island,” which Glaser hosted and executive produced for three seasons. Glaser recently wrapped her global ‘The Good Girl’ stand-up tour and is currently on her ‘Alive and Unwell’ tour across the country through May 2025.

Entries for Motion Picture and Television submissions are due by Monday, November 4, with nominations set for Monday, December 9.

The Gronk cripto joke and the The Rock joke about Kevin Hart have never left my mind since they hilarious fell out of her mouth. One of the best comedians today and I hope she succeeds. Though it was a failure for them last year, I'm happy the Globes are giving someone new a shot. I'll be watching.

    • There's some irony in Philip being forgiven, because it forces everyone to admit that Victor was wrong to change his will.  Everyone, eventually including Xander, (I presume), seems to think it was wrong for Victor to divide his estate in Xander's favor.  I appreciated Stephanie forgiving Philip, because she's got no skin in that game.  But, Belle's line about Philip missing Xander because he misses Bo did not ring true.  I think Philip would be sad if Bo dies, but I think he's more concerned currently about Xander. I am enjoying this EJ mystery so much that I am hereby taking a vow not to read spoilers.  I am also vowing — for the last time — to stop harping on this, but: the concept of a “sepsis treatment” remains absurd. Hospitals prevent sepsis through vigilant infection control; once sepsis sets in, it causes multiple organ failures. Treatment involves supporting each failing organ individually. The notion that a single medication could magically reverse organ failure is medically laughable. However, I like the contrast of Kim going through cancer, which is incurable in their universe.  Kayla's comment on the health of both of her siblings was both heartbreaking and an interesting twist.  MBE is also totally underrated.  She is carrying the weight of so many stories.   And, I like the use of Kayla as an audience surrogate.  She's arguably the most "real" person in Salem. Kayla isn't psychic, she wasn't SORASed, she's not a billionaire, and she doesn't have a bionic eye.  So, I enjoy that we get her perspective of the nuttiness that surrounds her. However, I don't get what gives her the authority to turn down EJ's offer.  I understand that they need a hospital figurehead to show us scenes of the competition to buy the hospital.  But, unless the entire administration has been let go, the Chief of Staff wouldn't make those choices.
    • But why worry about something that might not happen? Right now, most things revolve around the Duprees. We have no idea if or how long that will continue. For now, it's working.
    • The Duprees not having any staff is a bugbear for me. They've included the background staff at the Country Club but no one at the Dupree home. Even just an extra bringing in a tray of food/drinks or responding to a request from Anita would suffice.
    • Shut up, Dante and Lois.  I actually don't mind this particular soap trope, but in the context of this storyline, it just feels forced and unnecessary. If anything, this Dante/Gio tension needed to begin months ago. Plus, this storyline, in general, isn't doing Lois any favors either.  Emma comforting Gio was really sweet though. It's definitely time for the two of them to have their first kiss. And, Joss playing Secret Agent Barbie will just never work.
    • Note to makeup - Smitty’s eyebrows, bad clamshell look.

    • Okay I can buy that when Brook Lynn was a teen.  Now she knows the child is a boy one would think she'd be slightly suspicious.  Then again, Gio looks nothing like either of them so maybe not lol.
    • I've been behind & just got caught up & the last 3 days were amazing!
    • Yeah.  The hot, poor bad boy with a chip on his shoulder but with a heart of gold was a common soap trope in the 80s

    • That's been an issue with me... the lack of a cohesive 'Have Not' crowd that has focus other than Leslie/Eva.   I would beef up Jan, Mona, Laura, Joey, and few other male characters.. and not just be out to overthrow the Duprees.. but co-existing and broadening the scope of the show since the show is called Beyond the Gates. I think the set up the show has with everything revolving around the Duprees will become predictable especially if they always win.   It would be like Victor Newman on Y & R for 40+ years.. always winning, hardly ever losing.   With MVJ/Guza.. both trained under that mindset... I fear that will happen.   I've always heard from a performer that is playing a character like Leslie/Dana that you have to find the victim/hurt beneath the surface in order to play a villain/villainess... and I think that's why I enjoy watching her.. because she brings so much more to the part than what the writers put on the page.
