DAYS: July 2024 Discussion Thread

Your question about other cops reminded me about the guy who started at the same time as Goldman, and was the red herring for a bit.

Which then reminded me of an issue that I guess will never get resolved because it was written by the scabs from that fateful episode in January.  We know that Goldman shot at Lucas and Kate, because she was wounded by Kate's gun.  We know that Stefan shot Harris, because he framed Xander.  But, we still don't know who lit the fire at the Horton House!

I went back to watch it in April, and it is definitely supposed to be three separate people carrying out the crimes simultaneously.

Jada didn't tamper with Evidence she weared gloves when going in the hospital room Rafe was in to collect the knife and put it in a evidence bag and yesterday and today Jada was on the phone with someone about looking into what happened with Rafe and they probably hire a extra to play a cop since only Rafe and Jada work at Salem pd currently

The hospital/Kayla put a murder weapon on the table in the open. Sure, Jada didn't actually tamper the evidence, but the whole knife just chilling on that table probably does.  Jada should not be collecting evidence on her boss/boyfriend's case.  That's just normal knowledge.  They could use mustache guy or another extra to at least pretend to be a cop.  There is no justification to the sheer laziness of this plot

Today's episode was boring between Alex and Brady stuff discussing the double wedding and then Eric and Nicole discussing their feelings then stuff with Ej and johnny about the lies Ej told and his divorce papers from Nicole then Holly and Tate stuff and Janel stuff was short and Sophia is definitely jan spears 2.0 she was about to tell Theresa where Holly and Tate went and Eric and Nicole should have known by Now that EJ wasn't going to sign those divorce papers

Adriana, is there a reason all of your posts exclude the usage of commas and periods or any punctuation marks? If there is - I'm sorry for the question. But if there isn't, you may want to use them from time to time - they will help us follow your train of thought.

Today was an improvement over yesterday and Monday.

There were a lot of good scenes today, but also some missed opportunities, particularly with Johnny. They really should be making him torn between EJ and the Dimeras and Eric and the Brady/Evans-Black family, instead of having him just be blindly loyal to EJ. Their scenes today were good but I wish they’d go in that direction, especially since we found out today that EJ is refusing to give Nicole a divorce. This all could have been really good and could have caused conflict for Johnny and Chanel as well.

Btw, is this show ever gonna remember that Johnny and Tate are cousins?

Speaking of Tate, his and Holly’s plan to secretly spend the summer together is a total bust. Their scenes were nice too but their plan is to just hide out at the Horton cabin all summer and play board games? That’s it? Nice plan lol Hopefully, Sophia’s introduction into their storyline is the shot in the arm that it needs. And that she’s not written like a psychopath.

Btw, Tate’s dorky dance moves at the beginning were funny

And I’m glad that Theresa suddenly remembered that Tate needed to be at her wedding. I mean, what kind of person doesn’t include their own child in their wedding?

Tate not being more involved in Brady/Theresa/Alex is another missed opportunity.

And yeah, Eric and Nicole as a couple/reuniting is definitely not fan service, contrary to what some fans say.

What is this meant to signify?

If I guess, I'd guess that you do not think they are a popular couple. It seems to me that they are. How many couples does DAYS have at this time that have any rootability? John & Marlena, Steve & Kayla, anyone else? I would say that Ericole does. The last time they were together, they had some pretty bad writing, but people still want them to be together. I wish they were going to be around for a long time.

Eric and Nicole are okay.  I don't mind them.  The unfortunate thing is nothing ever fundamentally changes when they break up and get back together.  Eric is always going to be too judge-y and Nicole is always going to screw up because she doesn't feel like she's good enough for Eric.  They don't change anything about their lives and just keep repeating the same mistakes over and over.   I honestly find them root able.  I just don't know why this time will be different than the other 100 times they got back together before.

    • Wasn't there talk of them bringing back Rita as Gus' mother at one point? Or something?
    • I think they are a part of the same family, although Carla was never really scheming for the same reasons, and once her double life was exposed, she stopped.
    • Rachel/Ada, Mona/Erica, a mother/daughter at LOVING, these are all examples of the Agnes Nixon "troublesome daughter/put upon mother" trope. Are Carla/Sadie by any chance one of the pairs that make up this trope? Another thing that these 2 shows might have in common. OLTL had a very strong thematic approach to socioeconomic differences between groups of people. Class differences. AW at an earlier point had this too but to be clear it was not as much as OLTL. So that is a similarity but marginal.  Besides that, I see no other comparable things. Paul Rauch was a very different EP at different shows. Oh, I've thought of one more thing. Using actors from the Broadway stage.  But, realistically that was something all of the NY shows had in common. So I don't think it has any uniqueness between AW & OLTL.
    • When you look at the period between Sweeps, it's as if they tried to maintain a kind of pace where they had a lot of plates spinning in the air & on their fingertips & the whole goal was nothing but to not drop any of those plates. A version of spinning one's wheels. They're not getting anywhere but they give the appearance of a whole lot of activity. I believe it's all about this appearance. At moments they accidentally hit a chord & something resonates but it is a false event.

    • I’m not speculating anything, but I admit, I’m getting a little worried about James Reynolds.
    • I feel like this is what they're doing by creating lots of storylines but their biggest weakness for years is the inability to properly pace these stories and give resolution. A good example now would be the Gio story which has been simmering for months with very little movement. I went from not caring to being invested to not caring again because of how long it's taking for the secret to be revealed. One story like that would be fine but it seems like everything moves at this snails pace on GH. They need to do a better job of rotating the stories so everything isn't in that same treading water phase.
    • However, those of us who watch DAYS have been spoiled. On Peacock there are no preemptions. Not for anything & not in or about any show.  I read somewhere that we Baby Boomers in a way invented instant gratification but then we realized that it was not fast enough.
    • The title track from the follow-up album Hot On the Trail is also co-written by Val Jean:
