I am totally out of the loop, but is Frank leaving finally!? His is one of the longest EP tenures I can recall in recent history. JFP and Guza were a terribly destructive regime. I shudder to think what they would do with so many veterans back on the canvas, but even they put on a better show than what we are dealing with today. If we had to have Guza back I'd take him with Riche.

Why was Wendy Riche supposedly fired again?

Angela Shapiro fired her. I'm not sure anyone knows why. I know WR very graciously talked about it being time to move on, etc. Possibly it had been a mistake to try to EP the main show & PC at the same time. Stuff like that. Riche rocks!!!! Shapiro herself found the door pretty soon after.

In a July 2010 interview with We Love Soaps, she had this to say of her exit:

❝ I was fired.  But it was time for me to leave.  I knew it, and ABC knew it.  I knew personally it was time to move on.  But I would have stayed there forever, I loved it so much. I guess I needed a push in another direction. ❞

She also stated this in her thoughts of ABC buying the soap in 1995 (which I do believe has changed):

❝ No, I don’t think so.  Maybe there were more budgetary issues that we would deal with.  But the team at GENERAL HOSPITAL could address anything.  If I said we had to cut the budget, then everyone would roll up their sleeves, and you wouldn’t know it by watching the show.  They had to cut some costs but they did not interfere in any creative way.  We had Pat Fili Krushel and Angela Shapiro and they were very supportive creatively. ❞

Yabbut you also had Shapiro's Folly, and that was putting Linda Dano on all 4 shows. The HWs all hated it. And, the fans, well, some liked Myrtle being her mom. Some liked her with Eve. Some liked her with Skye. Some didn't like her at all. It is my surmise that if she'd put her on one damned show & left her there, she'd be there today. So, since this is that same woman, I am not surprised that she stupidly fired the golden Wendy Riche.

Sorry then, I must be thinking of Anne Sweeney, Frons's boss.

I think the most common theory was that WR was burning the candle at both ends with the two shows.  To me at the time it was very clear Wendy was putting more time into PC at the expense of the main show.  GH was fairly messy her last few years in charge, although fantastic compared to today.

PC was pretty much DOA and I think GH was suffering ratings rise and creatively so I can understand the need to let her go or at least demote her to just one show.   To be fair, though, GH lost a lot of young talent from 1998-2000 and the show didn't do a very good job bringing in 'replacements' for those characters.  GH had moved past the grounded 90's Labine heyday and was moving into the more modern Y2K era and I think the show really needed someone who could give 100% attention.

I am really not sure why anyone though Wendy helming both shows would work to be honest.

Once ABC Disney came on it all got confusing

I thought I read they cut the Rae crossovers short once she got to PC and GH. Rae wasnt on those shows as long as she was on AMC. I think ABC saw it not working. Once they made Skye, Rae's daughter, the GH visits worked. But then unmaking Skye Alan's daughter did not.

    • Ah okay, thats what I thought. I was hoping I missed the announcement somewhere. Thanks for the clarification.
    • A new day in Salem… and a new day for Days.  I like the way everybody found out and absorbed the news about John’s death, and how they all eventually found their way to Marlena’s to offer their condolences. I’m not particularly sure why they waited until the next day to tell everybody but I don’t really mind it.  We finally got Roman’s perspective! His scenes with Kayla were one of the best parts of today. I’m glad that Roman is thankful for everything that John did for his kids. I agree with posters who said that he should’ve had a scene like this with John, but I’m happy we got this at least.  Julie was used very well today too. She’s definitely the best person for Marlena to have scenes with at the moment. Hopefully, Julie continues to be there for her. And yes, I totally agree with Marlena and Belle sending EJ away when he came to the apartment. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen to his and Belle’s relationship in the aftermath of all this. And, while I enjoyed most of Brady and Kristen’s scenes, I still think the ship has sailed for them. Hopefully, the aftermath of John’s death causes Brady to finally end this thing with her once and for all.  And, I see a lot of people were wearing some kind of shade of purple today.

    • Wow, I love that current and former actors are participating in this. I barely recognize Staci Greason! She looks fine, just very different. But I will be happy to hear anecdotes from her. I shipped RoJohn and Isabella hard back in the day, and I sobbed buckets in my dorm room at college when Izzy B passed. Honestly, I'm interested in everyone's stories. Drake seemed like he was well loved among the cast.
    • When she first appeared, I was sure she was setting Tyrell up for a prank. She was too much of a manic pixie dream girl- I wasn't surprised Tyrell also became suspicious. Now I'm not so sure. If Jessica genuinely likes Tyrell, it seems like a missed opportunity to not have started her out as a bully, then we see her gradually catch feelings for Tyrell.  The McBrides are definitely the "C" family of BTG. They always get last priority. There have been a few times where the Doug/Vanessa/Joey characters reference off screen conversations which seem too important to not show us. Like when Doug thanked Joey for giving him extra time to pay off the loan. When did that happen? Or when we abruptly moved from Vanessa/Joey at Uptown to Vanessa/Doug in the hotel room. The McBrides don't even have their own set - even though Vanessa is a realtor. It's a shame because I am a fan of the characters and actors.

I am also adjusting to KR as Ted but I feel that AM and MJ had way more chemistry as father and daughter than AM and KR. We saw Eva dream of having a real relationship with MJ's version of Ted for months so it's a bit of a bummer not to have that payoff with the original actor except for those scenes in MJ's last episode.  Something I noticed about Eva today is how she takes genuine delight in being a schemer. As badly as she wants to be a Richardson, she still has so much of her mom in her. It was jarring seeing her earnestly promise to steer clear of Leslie in her scene with Ted, then immediately switch attitudes when her mom showed up.  I'm very surprised with how quickly the accident story has been moving along. I was sure that it would be months if not years before people figured out it was Leslie on the motorcycle, not to mention responsible for the potassium overdose. I'm looking forward to seeing how MVJ and Guza avoid writing Leslie into a corner.  Finally, I have been loving the Articulettes story. Bonita Brisker was just the right amount of OTT - remember Sharon is supposed to be even more angry than Tracy is. If Sharon didn't come in swinging, people would say she fell flat. The way Sharon and Tracy describe the breakup is so Supremes-meet-Original Recipe Destiny's Child. I get the sense that MVJ is re-writing the Return to Love Tour as a roman a clef, and I love it. I'm looking forward to finding out what the secret they share is. If Dante Green is as shady as Berry Gordy was, it's something dark. If/when they go through with the reunion, I expect Dante to show up and claim to own the Articulettes trademark in a Lou Pearlman-esque twist.
    • Other than hanging out with Liz, all of Lucky's stories have been stalled out or dropped; the relationship with his son; his wanderlust. He hasn't been involved in any of the action/adventure or con artist stuff. I don't think he's even had a scene with Sidwell since the latter came to town. He's a real after thought. I doubt he's long for the show.
