ALL: Resting long term characters

Sheila would be fine if you had a competent writer handling her. And Brad is stupid for not assimilating Diana, Mary, and Ryder (as much as we want to ignore him and Daisy, we can't due to Lucy being on Y&R) to the B&B canvas. Why hasn't Finn ventured over to Y&R and met his niece? Why hasn't Sheila, who is obsessed with her scions ventured over to Y&R to meet her granddaughter? Diana being related to Steffy and Finn could catalyze tons of drama. The stories are there. Brad is just too lazy to execute.

I am still shocked that a bitter Jack or Little Eric hasn't popped up shaking the canvas up. Those are two other characters that could provide tons of story. But I digress.

Agreed. Again, I love EB down but sometimes, I feel like what does Victor have left to tell? Same with Nikki? Same with Jack? And that's just scratching the surface. I'd send Victoria back to Paris with Nick, Phyllis, Michael, and a few others in tow.

These shows feel like they don’t have aaaany money. I wonder how low the license fees got. B&B has never felt so insular as it has in recent years. How much are they really making from overseas markets? It feels like they don’t have the funds to expand the canvas much.

Brad’s storytelling is so chaotic—there’s both this episodic feel, where stories are told with definite “beginnings” and “ends,” and leave very little impact on the characters; then there’s the Groundhog Day-level repetition, in which I swear old scripts are dusted off and reused, and other “stories” feeling interminable (whatever they’re doing with Sheila).

While B&B is sorely lacking diversity, and Asian Americans have been woefully underrepresented in daytime, the “investment” Brad is making with Poppy and Luna feels typically one-dimensional and certainly could have been used to shore up other parts of the canvas.

Especially if Brad intends to keep Sheila around. She’s long overstayed her welcome indeed. Having more of her family would humanize her and ground Finn in the canvas more. If they’re gonna keep Sheila, just bite the bullet and go all in, instead of this very unsatisfying, scattershot approach.

Re: Victor—that character has been rode hard and put away wet. He’s been a cartoon for years. Yet, some very vocal people love the cartoon, and EB has demurred when they’ve tried to push him out of his rut. Sonny on GH feels the same way. People are already bitching about Sonny being a town pariah and feuding with Jason, which is the first time he’s been that interesting as “Sonny” in a very long time.

No one wants to push them into new dynamics, and, for viewers who desire more than ambient TV, that’s deadly. Just spin them off into their own superhero series if that’s what you want. Some of us want to watch a soap opera.

We will have to agree to disagree. Nikki is one of the main characters left that offers the least. The last time I felt Nikki had anything to offer was around 2005. All her stories post then have been flops. Her stories consist of her drinking, killing someone, or begging for Victor. I am over it. I am over her. I like MTS but Nikki could croak tomorrow and I'd be OK.

I think B&B makes a pretty penny abroad hence why CBS lets them stay on air. Out of the remaining 4, I imagine that B&B will be the last one standing.

(re: Luna/Poppy) Not shocked at all by how Brad is writing them. He handled the Avants horribly and they were well-received by the audience. I feel like all of them will be written off 2-3 years max and that's me being generous.

TBH, I think Victor's the only reason why Nikki/MTS has lasted this long.  Otherwise, I'm pretty sure she would've been history by 1982 or so.

Another potential victim for the Genoa City Slasher, lol.

You'd kill off The Great Victor Newman?  Oh, Lawd.  The hip-hop community would never forgive you.  Nor would their mamas and big mamas and aunties, all of whom would be running to the altars and rebuking you in the name of Jesus so fast, lol!

Jordan seems almost too obvious of a choice at this point, but I'm hard-pressed to think of anyone else who could fit the bill of being Y&R's inaugural serial killer.

Nah, I'd keep all three.  They don't need to drive story the way they have been for too long, but they still need to be there in some capacity, I think.

I could go along with bringing back Jess Walton and reviving the Brooks, Foster and Prentiss families in some fashion, but aside from being Lily's mom, I'm not sure whether VR would have a real place on Y&R again, especially now with KSJ/Neil gone.

Friend, that is blasphemy! Dru always has a spot on Y&R (and in my heart). She'll have a nice amnesia arc where she's been living with a widower and his grown children, which'll spark some jealousy in Lily and Devon. We'll have Sharon find her and help her assimilate back in Genoa City. Eventually, she'll get her spunk back and merge her new family with her old family much to the chagrin of some. That'll give me the chance to bring Davetta back as the spunky daughter that Dru deserved which would unnerve Lily as Dru sees more of a connection with Davetta's character than Lily.

Bringing Jack on as RJ's rival is a no brainer IMO. I can't believe they haven't done it. Can you imagine the drama...Brooke's son that she didn't give birth to??? He could be all about revenge, drama, and messing up people's lives...think Jonathan back on GL.

Where the hell is Jack?! I keep asking this! He's missing along with my damn earthquake! That being said, we might be subject another decade of Hope/Steffy bs and quite frankly, I can't. where is Little Eric though?

    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
    • French fan summary Rusty took over Simon's job at Lewis Trucking after Simon transferred to Lewis Oil's North Carolina office to live near Jessie and Calla. I doubt they would bother following up a story for offscreen characters eg marriage and a baby.
    • I suspected that the performance with the reveal was the reason why the Ted actor got the axe and it looks like I was right. He wasn't really good at conveying what needed to be conveyed in those scenes. Claybon is at least slowly improving (but I agree that he still needs to work on his line delivery), but I do wonder what will happen when his big reveal is coming up.
    • I've already asked this before, recently, but can anyone who watched those years more closely tell me if anything said about Jessie and Simon at the end of their profiles is accurate (about them marrying, naming a baby after Brandon/Lujack, etc.)?
    • Nicole is way too smart to not know she was carrying twins - she's a doctor! My guess is that Leslie did abort her baby out of fear, and as payback, stole Ted and Nicole's child (Eva), and stole Kat from another family to replace her in the hospital.
    • Those Soap Central profiles have a lot of incorrect info. According to SOD summaries and the Daytime Newsletter of the time,Tim left town for a new job and Pam reunited with the father of her baby and also departed Springfield. They did not marry.
    • Do we believe that Jabot is at the level of Estee Lauder?? I am on board with Jabot deciding to expand but the way it was handled was ridiculous. Jabot just decided and bingo, that was that. Not months of negotiations and decisions about how it would fit into the Jabot portfolio. And then no follow through. Josh thinks he's serving business stories by characters sitting around and discussing mergers, takeovers and job switching. Now we have Audra setting up her own company -Vibrator or something. Well, why not? You don't need staff, office space or even products.
