Webmaster Errol Posted June 12, 2024 Webmaster Share Posted June 12, 2024 Weeks after the tragic death of Johnny Wactor, “General Hospital” paid tribute to its fallen former cast member with an on-air title card shown at the conclusion of the Tuesday, June 11 episode — Wactor portrayed Brando Corbin on the daytime drama series from January 2020 through September 2022. “In Loving Memory of Johnny Wactor,” read the card, referencing the beloved 37-year-old actor who was shot and killed in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 25 in downtown Los Angeles after three unidentified suspects were allegedly seen trying to steal a catalytic converter from his vehicle. Wactor and a colleague had just finished working a shift at a local bar when they discovered the theft. Initially, Wactor thought his vehicle was being towed, but he soon realized what was truly going on. “We cautiously approached the men, questioning what they were doing, at first thinking the car was being towed. We were no threat and Johnny kept his cool as he always did, simply stating that it was his car and for them to leave. Hands open to his sides in peace,” his colleague Anita Joy detailed in a post on Instagram about the tragedy. A march to Los Angeles City Hall has been organized by Wactor’s friends and family for Wednesday, June 12, with the hopes that it will raise awareness of the senseless killing as the Los Angeles Police Department has yet to identify any suspects responsible for the murder. For anyone able to attend the march, it will begin on Wednesday, June 12 at 10:00 a.m. PT at the corner of Hope and Pico in Downtown Los Angeles, the same location where Wactor was shot and killed. Attendees are asked to arrive between 9:30-9:45 a.m. Following a press conference with words from Johnny’s family, those gathered will march to Los Angeles City Hall, which is set to adjourn its meeting at 11:45 a.m. in memory of Johnny. At 12:00 p.m., a rally on the steps of City Hall will take place with the hope that the city’s mayor and council members will “hear us.” Johnny Wactor, Bonnie BurroughsABC/Scott Kirkland/ABC “I would love to see you there,” said Bonnie Burroughs, who played Wactor’s former on-screen mother Gladys on “General Hospital,” in an Instagram post sharing the march’s message: “Johnny deserves justice. WE deserve a safe city.” For more on the #JusticeForJohnnyWactor movement, visit the official Instagram page approved by the Wactor family. Members Faulkner
Not to detract from this tragedy, but why are these tribute cards so cheap-looking? Obviously this was decades ago, but Y&R did such a lovely clip package after Michelle Thomas (Callie) passed away and I believe she’d been off the show a little while at that point due to her cancer. This one for JW just looks thrown together with that Copperplate Gothic font.
