Yeah, she said they were getting up to 15 scripts at a time, and she asked for them to lessen that number. So, she's very aware of things, and I love that she's standing up not only for herself but for those she works with.

I agree; am I happy to see his name at all? No. But knowing he's in a breakdown role and a breakdown role only makes me quite happy!!!

That coincides with the timeframe when they began to cut their number of brands, selling off pretty much half. So the soaps became less important to them as vehicles for advertising. Basically they began in 2000 & they did it over about 4 years.

Yes I'm with you here every word. And when we back up as far as you just did, totally correctly, we snag the AW cancellation in 1999 where they had a poorer relationship with NBC earlier on but then well, history repeated itself.

She specifically teased April which is 6 months from Oct. 31st so that is a kind of confirmation of her saying that amount of time. (No spoiler.)

These are clips from the public livefeed youtube from the Paley center.
They're hinting at spoilers as "something's coming" "big" "wow", etc
but not outright saying any spoilers.
They say when these things are coming and who might be affected,
but nothing specific.

They are not February spoilers, so I won't put them on the February spoiler thread, so I'll just leave them here
But behind spoiler tags to be safe.

To go back to the Ron Calivati of it all, I agree with not being excited to see his name but I am not worried about him. I really can't see him sticking around too long after working so many years as a HW. I see this as him building a relationship with CBS in case something opens at Y&R. Being on a well received show would put some distance between how bad his stint at Days has become. I really wouldn't be surprised if they hired him in the event Josh Griffith leaves. That will be Y&R's problem but I'm not worried about Beyond the Gates.

Errol posted a while back that this thread will remain active, but will become the
ongoing "behind-the-scenes, history, articles, classic, etc" thread for BTG,
similar to such threads for the other current US soaps.

@Errol is that still the plan, and will this thread keep same name or be renamed?

I look at it this way: Michele Val Jean must see something in Ron Carlivati's work that most of us don't, or else she wouldn't have hired him.  Same goes for Bob Guza and Julie Hanan Carruthers.  This show is too important to MVJ to place even portions of it in less-than-worthy hands.

That does not mean I've become an RC fan of all sudden.  It just means that I'm willing to trust MVJ's judgment, simply because her track record and commitment to BTG tell me that I should.

LET’S GO!!!!!!! #DanceItOut #NoExcuses #FitOverFourty #TakeYourBodyBack #FindWhatGetsYouMoving     .           .
    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
    • A few more thoughts about these last two episodes. I thought it was interesting how much disdain both Dani/Anita have for Eva. I thought it was amusing how Dani was calling her lying/conniving and how Anita pointed as if to say, "that part". They definitely are not here for her, and I could see them having harsh confrontations with her in addition to Leslie. I'm curious to see Kat's interaction with Eva on Monday's episode. I think it might be interesting if Kat (along with possibly Naomi/Chelsea) come around to Eva before Dani/Anita do. Of course, Kat will be understandably angry at her. But maybe a tiny part of her might feel sorry for her if she really does believe that she's Ted's daughter as well and that Leslie lied to her. I could see Kat confronting Eva again and warning her not to harm her family anymore. But I could also possibly see Kat admitting that what Ted/Leslie did regarding her was messed up as well. And maybe that will pave the way down the line for them to get along better. I also agree with the comments/speculation made in the threat that Nicole will eventually accept/probably love her someday as well. I still wouldn't mind if somehow Nicole ended up being her biological mother. They have both been acting like they care for each other in this storyline. Nicole somehow ending up being her mother would be soapy and provide some more interesting layers in this story. And regarding Andre/Dani's romance it seems like they are genuinely developing feelings for each other. I have missed episodes, so maybe more of this has been elaborated on. But it seemed like there was genuine affection between both of them when they snuck a kiss publicly in the hotel. And also, them both talking about going publicly with their relationship. I wonder what everyone's reactions will be should they be caught by someone together. Of if they flat out tell everyone about their relationship.
    • I was wondering what week it was, and it explains the low rating for Knots Landing. I was also wondering what preempted Dallas and Falcon Crest.
    • Interesting take on Dallas. Frankly I think the plot of JR Returns should have been the way Dallas ended but for whatever reason they thought they had the chance to get renewed for another season lol. A week later Knots’ 2 hour season finale ranked at #10 against Cheers #3 and LA Law at #5. There’s only a handful of other shows running that long and still doing well enough the ratings/rankings i.e. Gunsmoke, Law & Order, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and more recently Blue Bloods.    Another point of interest is the unraveling of the 80’s sitcoms had already begun in the spring of ‘91. The first part of a Who’s The Boss? two part season finale we see here ranked at  #40 and second part ranked at #43 the following week. Growing Pains finale the previous week barely made it into the Top 30. The Wonder Years fared no better. Cosby losing ground, Night Court and Dear John just being there etc.
    • I'm glad a lot of people are continuing to enjoy this show.

I haven't posted in a few weeks and have some catching up to do. But I did manage to look at the last two episodes after hearing about how good they were. I really enjoyed them. My thoughts on them: The affair/secret child reveal was very good. TMG was really good as Leslie, her whole confrontation with Ted/revealing all to the Duprees was very entertaining. I continue to love AM/Eva. She my top two favorites on the show (along with Nicole). I have a lot of sympathy for Eva and how she was conflicted/ultimately felt guilty about publicly revealing the truth to everyone. I wonder what will happen to her next, especially if she does go and live with the Doctor that is friends with Ted and Nicole. I lol'ed at how Martin/Smitty jumped up and grabbed Leslie when Eva was calling her crazy. The way they did that was funny to me. I haven't liked many of Martin's actions/his attitude especially regarding Smitty/his children, but I think it was interesting how he wanted to check Ted for his actions. And also wanted Bill to be questioned/confronted about his as well. I haven't been the biggest fan of the character of Andre, but I appreciated his calm and measured approach after the reveal and how he talked with Eva. I thought it was interesting that he knew about the affair and convinced Ted not to tell Nicole. Speaking of Nicole, I continue to love her character and view her as the heart of this show/Dupree family. I am interested in seeing where her journey goes as a character after this reveal. I'm looking forward to her leaning on Dani and (also Anita/Vernon, etc...) for a change.
