Perhaps we can start giving BTG more grace and respect by asking people in this thread not to call it "officially trash" before it even airs, and spamming it with videos that call Michele Val Jean, a legendary soap scribe with decades of great work, 'a bootlicker'.

But that's just my take.

It's going to have to be accepted at some point that people are going to say what they want to say. If BTG is destined to survive then it will, irregardless of any viewpoints that those may have. But we ain't seen nothin yet. Just wait until that first episode airs and then look for the plethora of online articles afterwards of those seeking to tear it down. This show has a PREDOMINANTLY black cast and there are those, perhaps many, who already despise it for that alone. So like Anita Dupree said "GET READY."

I'm not talking about anyone else. I'm not discussing hypothetical articles. I'm asking why you think the show is 'officially trash' and are cosigning the opinion of some toxic YouTube troll who you said was 'totally right' that Michele Val Jean is a bootlicking sellout. Was it before or after they didn't set the show in the location you wanted? Didn't cast the actors you wanted, or didn't use the fanfiction characters you invented in this thread based on the version of the show you invented in your head, in this thread?

You're right that people have a right to their opinions. But this is the first new American soap opera on network television in over 20 years, and arguably the bulk of this forum is excited about it, including a lot of people who have been here a good portion of those 20+ years. I think they have a right to that space, and to not be inundated with preemptive negativity and nastiness. I don't have any authority to tell you what to post, where to post or how to post, and I can't report you for it. But I am going to call you on what you're saying, and ask you to back it up. And if you can't, you might want to consider reconsidering til February 24th.

I've began accepting the fact that this beautiful project (now a reality) called "Beyond the Gates" will shine brightest and strongest... in moments when it's being surrounded by toxicity and trash. Even if God himself came and head-wrote the show... some particular people would find extreme faults or something to hate or ridicule. And I'm not talking about the normal constructive criticism or dislike of certain aspects (that is welcome and should not be repelled), but pre-directed, pre-planned, derogatory, passive-aggressive, all-kinds-of-phobic agenda that we've all seen and reacted to in this topic. Agenda whose main focus is to create a toxic atmosphere and distort the reality. To change the fact that... till now... the reaction to the show has been amazingly positive.

And just like a stunning rose in midst of hideous weeds... becomes even more beautiful when she is being surrounded by ugliness... this obvious, transparent and quite laughable agenda will be just that... a boring weed you have to look at... sometimes... because it stands next to the rose.

It's funny how some troll on YouTube called MVJ a "bootlicker" and a sellout when YT is nothing BUT bootlickers and sellouts, lol.

    • OH, I AM.   And it looks like it's a pretty good episode so I might watch later on this weekend after work cuz I see a lot of scenes with people I actually like. Very happy to see Rocco/Danny appear to be getting story, too.
    • I do agree that a revival of EON would work, if it doesn't fall into doing all of the typical soap opera tropes... which it became guilty of in the final few years of the show with the over abundance of Raven/Sky at the expense of the actual detectives, police, etc. And I know it was mentioned earlier that Raven had lost any true connections on the show with the death of her on screen mother, and the loss of April/Draper/Deborah.. and I do agree with that. I actually thought the show would have done something with the Shelley character that could have connected her to the Raven character.  There were a few scenes where the two would have scenes and size one another up before they would go their separate ways.. so I assumed perhaps they would have been revealed as half-siblings and/or perhaps cousins.  Alas.. not to be.
    • It definitely flowed beautifully. So much that I was annoyed when Vanessa/Doug because I wanted to get back to the party. I know it was intentional to build up tension and suspense. It worked. lol. I'm glad it was there in hingsight because it gave us that great conversation between Doug and Vanessa. Foreshadowing? And yesss!!! This episode was sooo old school soap giving beat after beat after beat leading up to the unveiling of Eva as Ted's daughter. And we still have plenty of fallout/aftereffects to work through.   Speaking of...Bill, Bill, Bill lol. Good to have confirmation HE was the scary lawyer.   I'm sure I will have a busy Monday, but I can't wait for it. I don't know what I'm looking forward to more. Probably Anita vs Silk Press Sheila tbh. And yes, I feel they will be matching each other 'blow for blow.'
    • And if they go there, it could also be tied to Johnny completely cutting him off, possibly going to work for Titan, etc.
    • @AbcNbc247 maybe it is just that they've gone to that well too often, and I don't like when DAYS goes dark, but I'm OK with EJ abusing drugs, and just skipping the whole sobriety part. Side note: experiencing hallucinations of my son killing me would be enough for me to never want to take a pill again.

    • Part of the reason that Courtney worked at OLTL was because the show had an actual character for her to play.  One that was somewhat different than her character on AW, and after the way she was treated over at AW.. it had to have been nice to be courted onto a new soap that actually valued your contributions.
    • I figured the "long" was already implied
    • You'll be very impressed
