People: "Soaps have sucked for the last 20 years, the industry is dying, we need a resurgence"

*CBS boldly creates a new soap despite declining linear television and local news saturation*

People: "Eew no. The cast is the wrong color."

You can't make this up

Even if you aren't interested in an all black soap, wouldn't you want to see the success of the first new soap a quarter century because it could possibly reinvigorate the genre?

I've seen people suggest re-runs of ATWT from the 70s onwards... Honestly speaking, who outside of us niche viewers is going to watch that? The network also has to cater to the modern day soap audience.

People have even suggested re-vamping old soaps. As much as I sympathize with that idea, a lot of those cast members are dead, and modern audiences may not remember some of the old stories.

Man, I don't know. Every year we have more and more of these ancient-ass SON accounts dating back 20 years coming out of hibernation, most with minimal to no posting history, to act deranged all over the board. Some of y'all know what I'm talking about.

Before he claimed full ownership of BTG upon its announcement and then began to turn on it for not being the show he made up in his head, vanguard's only post on this forum was complaining about Empire ten years ago. I don't know what this person is going through but I am through sanctioning it. He can join my very large Ignore filter.

YES, lol!!!!!

For years, we've had to be messy vicariously, through larger-than-life characters like Erica Kane and Victor Newman.  Not that I don't still love me some Erica and Victor (or some "Miss Chancellor" with those fabulous nails and diamonds), but now we're up in the big leagues, gettin' OUR turn at bat; and I, for one, cannot wait.

Thank you, thank you and THANK. YOU.

I'm just gonna put this out there. Do I employ the stratagem "Just keep strolling on" Yes, of course I do, also been known to recommend it. Other stratagems vary from place to place. Whether it is Block or Ignore or Mute, I use them all.  But on occasion, not very often, I say to myself, This is such an uncomfortable situation, maybe I could defuse it with humor. Obviously high risk since it could be a flop.

I haven’t posted much but I’m super excited for a new soap with a lot of people that look like me. I know audiences these days are so quick to drop stuff but I truly hope this is a success. The genre needs it and us fans deserve it.

I think the biggest obstacle that Beyond the Gates will have is that it usually does take a while for soaps to properly gel and since linear is dying there's not really a lot of channel surfing and people coming across the show in the same way it used to be. Hopefully as the show starts building up a library of episodes people might start putting it on while doing other things and get hooked that way down the road. I know Netflix wanted recently mandated shows to have more "casual friendly" scripts for this reason.

Regarding the latest pictures, my only pet peeve is that I hate it when there are no ‘shadows’ in the lighting. For example, the DAYS flat look or even the GH flat look bore me. I much prefer the B&B look or even Y&R because they have some contrast (ironically, I loved ATWT’s look in the early 00s and even GL’s light and pastel look in the Brown & Esenstein era… go figure!).

Another thing they should do: they should pack the weekly 5 episodes into a weekly 1 hour long ‘prime time’ edit. These days viewers are dying to go back to 20+ episode seasons. This solution would be ideal.

I think it's hard to tell how it's going to look, honestly. Unfortunately, the "modern" look isn't very pro-shadow in American daytime. But again, we haven't seen much of anything yet, so I'm excited to see how all sets will look in the "daytime" and during the "nighttime". It'll be interesting. Although, there are shadows within the sets (just re-watched the teaser), but I doubt they want to paint their actors with overshadowed lighting.

Glad others are noticing it, 'cause.... w h e w.

I love the new shots and the new info we are getting. I love that angle they are exploring. MVJ is going to show all these tired writers... how it's f-cking DONE! I am sooooooo ready!

My Anita is shining. The Matriarch of DAYTIME has arrived, and she is here to expose people and show their true colors! And look at that handsome man! He is ageing like fine wine!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S Speaking of showing true colors... I see this topic's disturbing presence has more or less completely shown their true face. And it aint pretty.

    • It was a good episode. I didn't expect things to unravel so soon.   One thing I still don't like about these big events: Where was everyone else?   This is a big event. Everyone should've been there.
    • Mitch, thanks for that history of the Reardon Boarding House kitchen.  I had always assumed that every time the kitchen set returned, it was a recreation of the original set.  So I have been wrong about that.   Was the kitchen set ever used later, while Buzz and the Coopers owned the boarding house?

    • Do they ever do anything well?  The show is about 4 week story arcs - if that it feels like.  Why wouldn’t you spend a month of subtle hints.  Late to events and don’t telegraph it.  Have repeated issues with time; I had a friend whose Mom suddenly was forgetting half the meal in the fridge to be heated for a meal; twice her husband had to go to her work to get her because she was still working and only noticed no one was there until he walked in to find her and make her come home (it was a doctor’s office, there’s not that kind of job);  knowing she had an appointment and not be worried by it, etc.   No, they have him do a head bonk and bam it’s cancer.     It’s almost an insult.

    • Today showed why almost no one comments on this crap soap. -- We're back to pretending that there aren't SCORES of cosmetics companies out there --  only Jabot and whoever else opens up shop in Genoa City to be the competition. No real business runs this way. -- Marchetti is supposed to be an internationally-renowned fashion house, yet both Chelsea and Sally are ready to walk after being high-level executives there. -- It's not often women leave choice executive positions in their field of expertise to work in a business they're clueless about. -- Sally had a lot of nerve shading Chelsea with "It's easy to see Adam's influence on you" when the same damn thing is happening with Billy. -- I'm glad Lauren told Michael to quit, since we've all been mouthing that for weeks. None of that story is helped by CLB's over-the-top acting. -- The scene with Victoria helping a sick, coughing Cole walk to their car on the way to the hospital was laughable. Wouldn't rich people call a damn ambulance? -- Claire was really concerned, wasn't she? She stayed in the doorway instead of helping her mother, and then headed right to Crimson Lights for coffee. Why bother with checking on her possible terminal father at the hospital?
    • Leslie couldn't get her Clair Huxtable evening dress for prom, but she finally got it now.
