Deadline and The Wrap recently provided some insight into how the three remaining daytime soap operas are performing relative to their talk show and game show competition, median age, and Women 18+ viewers, and provided some additional details on streaming viewership.

In a report by Deadline, the outlet notes that season-to-date, “General Hospital” is down -9% among Total Viewers compared to the show’s average at the same point last season, dropping to 2.271 million when factoring in most current ratings data (inclusive of Live+7) versus the show’s 2.4 million viewers last season. In Women 18+, the show is down -6% year-over-year, with just 1.675 million viewers in the demographic tuning in versus 1.8 million last season.

At CBS, “The Bold and the Beautiful” is down -12% among Total Viewers with just 2.922 million viewers versus 3.3 million one year earlier, and down another -12% among Women 18+ (2.114 million vs. 2.39 million). “The Young and the Restless” is down a mere -5% in most current viewers with 3.457 million people tuning in on average this season versus 3.6 million last season. Among Women 18+, the show is down -6% in Women 18+ (2.487 million vs. 2.6 million).

When factoring in streaming across Paramount+, CBS.com and the CBS App, both soaps, along with “The Price is Right” and “Let’s Make a Deal,” are seeing double-digit increases, with “The Young and the Restless” seeing the largest growth, reports TheWrap.

    • Do we believe that Jabot is at the level of Estee Lauder?? I am on board with Jabot deciding to expand but the way it was handled was ridiculous. Jabot just decided and bingo, that was that. Not months of negotiations and decisions about how it would fit into the Jabot portfolio. And then no follow through. Josh thinks he's serving business stories by characters sitting around and discussing mergers, takeovers and job switching. Now we have Audra setting up her own company -Vibrator or something. Well, why not? You don't need staff, office space or even products.
    • He a dirty dog! Those are his kids and he hurt everyone. At this point he needed to just come clean. I can't believe I was lusting over this man! I hope they aren't quick to forgive.
    • The way I took it is that he did not want to confirm or deny anything until he talked to Nicole first. He was very calculated with the wording he used with Martin and Kat
    • I still see Alfonso Ribeiro as Carlton when Martin gets angry.
    • Not that I want to defend Y&R's writers, but it's not as absurd as you'd think and I believe they plucked it from reality (and then bungled it). The Estee Lauder Companies purchased Tom Ford's brand several years ago and I am willing to bet that's how Jabot came to buy Marchetti.
    • Loved the episode today. looking forward to the fallout. Nubian-Sheila looked fantastic, but I wish the writers would cut back on her overuse of figurative language. I loved the "fix yo mind ministries" line though. The background music during her fantasy confrontation with Nicole was epic.
    • Nothing makes sense on this show. I wish there was a garbage can emoji. That sums up 90% of the show right now.

Jane Wyman return episode was head-to-head w/ Cheers season 8 finale. Falcon Crest broadcast syndication began Fall 1986, which overlapped w/ Oprah going national. AFAIK cable broadcasts were Lifetime and Soapnet. I have no memory of cable broadcasts on TBS, TNT, TNN, E!, FX.
    • After today’s rushed and abrupt exit for Summer I immediately realized that Josh & Co. were very blindsided by AL’s decision to leave.  Not the first time this has happened to JG either; see MM & HK’s exits in 2021, MM’s exit in 2022, and of course TSJ’s exit last year. Obviously JG and our executive in charge of nothing Steve Kent don’t have a good handle on casting disruptions. And Mariah having an offscreen affair is [!@#$%^&*] ridiculous!! Meanwhile Tessa’s blonde hair is overkill with the number of blondes on the show already. I said the same thing 3 years ago…of course it was utterly ridiculous everyone was mad at Sally for getting Summer he dream job (don’t ask lol) but there was so much the show could have done without bringing on the Marchetti angle.
