DAYS: December 2023 Discussion Thread

Okay, this is Scab Dialogue week 2, right? I really liked today's show. So much so that I'm going to tell some folk who haven't been watching to take a look at today. Obviously it is the same characters & the same stories but the narrative was so much better. I mean by that, that to me at least, the execution was vastly improved. Did anyone else get that impression?

Little thing, I love how awful Dimitri's prison haircut looks! Kate was better Kate. Paulina was better Paulina. Dare I say it but Leo even was a little better. I'll be anxious to hear what people think.

That's funny, but it made me wonder - Aren't Evan and Jan off raising their spawn together?  It is hard to believe that they're getting along, but maybe those two cray kids are making it work.

No laugh emoji here?  That's your best line today!

Although it is interesting that John Black has never recovered from amnesia, and that's been going on for decades...

Almost as annoyed as I am about this thread discussing everything but DAYS December 2023 episodes - jeesh!

Abe's story really did stall.  Paulina and Abe have shared similar scenes over and over for months.  After the Whitley story I think Abe should have gotten his memory back until the show could pivot to something else for Paulina/Abe which spoilers seem to indicate they are soon.  Also, that wedding photo they keep using is just not a flattering picture of Jackee.  Couldn't they find a better one?

We really were robbed of EJ punching Leo!  Ugh..

Some of the dialogue today was a bit clunky and I noticed it.  Paulina/Melinda's entire unecessary scenes?  Kate saying she rarely agrees with John/Steve to Abe?  Since when?  You almost married one of them.   Sloan referring to Eric and Nicole's daughter Holly?  I know she meant Eric and Holly separately not her as his daughter, but it would have been easier to say Eric and Holly, Nicole's daughter and less confusing for me lol. That could have been entirely on JS though.

Also, I would say this thread each month has improved greatly from all the infighting and insults it used to have and pages of pics of shirtless men (not actually complaining about that

).  It might drift a bit, but it's a much more peaceful place than it was 6 months ago.

Ha! Ha!  I am not trying to convince you.  I don't think it matters much on weekends when the board and thread are entirely dead, but some of this stuff could easily move to the BTS Days thread.  I just remember the days of pages and pages of personal insults and fighting that happened and as long as everyone is mostly respectful and talking about the show in some capacity-I personally don't care or just scroll on.  There are a core few of us that are on this thread everyday and it's nice when others join.

My issue with Days in its current form is the cast. The only characters I like are Marlena, John, and Bonnie. Alas, Bonnie has been written dreadfully out of character since her return in 2020 (which is weird because she was written properly in 2017 and 2018).

I am grateful, however, that they took action and got rid of actors I absolutely couldn’t stand (Madison and Banus). Hopefully 2024 will bring more cast cuts and better returns (Eileeeeennn!).

As for the writing, I feel fired guy is 95% responsible for bad writing so I am very excited to see what an unshackled Ron can do with Janet. I enjoyed his first three years.

4.6/10

I hate these episodes that tease something is going to happen to move the story forward and then nothing happens.

Leo using the secret entrance is funny.  Again, the issue of where and when security cameras are placed at the Dimera house doesn't make sense.

How does Lucas know what Dimitri looks like unless he's been watching DAYS in prison?  And are we just going to overlook Lucas's meager pony-tail?  It is giving Steven Seagal vibes.

I like the EJ and Nicole scenes, since she “lost” the baby.  It makes the triangle much more equal than when we saw evil-EJ trying to hire multiple hit-people over the summer.  I hope EJ doesn't do anything duplicitous to mess this up because I enjoy vulnerable EJ.  Although I giggle every time they mention moving on or putting the past behind them, given that in their universe this whole thing happened like two days ago.

I think it's pretty clear EJ, Nicole, Eric, and Sloan are carrying the show right now.  Even with Leo/Dmitri I am enjoying the story.

The Lucas stuff was random.  Just release him already.  I don't know who Lucas would interact with besides his mother at this point, but his random pop ups don't do anything to move story.

    • I am interested to see how they handle Leslie/Dana down the road. If she continues in this path, it would be unrealistic to have her around. Like other shows have done this with a 'villian' character and ended up with people looking stupid putting up with someone they detest. Another thought-could they be building up to a murder story? Maybe Les/Dan will be left in a coma and we will have a whodunit with several characters as suspect. It would also be a chance to redeem her I wonder how long the show will go w/o resorting to soap cliche stories-twins,switched at birth, murder mystery, long lost child etc
    • Yeah, Martin really did make me laugh when him and Smitty jumped up to drag Leslie out. I am interested in seeing how this fallout will impact his storyline as well. Especially since he is so protective regarding his family/family's image. I am interested in seeing how he will interact with Eva for the time being, they did have a warmer interaction earlier on once they met. But he seems to have doubts about her possibly being Ted's right now. I wonder how long it might take for him to come around with her. I could see the younger generation warming up to her quicker than the older ones. Though of course I think there will be anger/tension for a while regarding the reveal and her role in it. Perhaps Naomi/Chelsea will ease up on Eva first then eventually Martin/Kat might down the line. I really do love Nicole. I'm glad that DD is playing her. She really is the heart of the family and also agree the show. She is so easy to root for and I'm looking forward to seeing how things work out for her. I am enjoying the development of most of the characters on this show. I enjoy most of them including Bill with his trifling self lol. I do feel that Bill's love for his daughters is genuine and that gives him some depth. A few of the characters I don't care for that much (like Bill, Ashley, Vanessa). I wasn't too big on Andre at first, but I am warming up more to him as the actor is settling into the role. I like most of the characters on this show. Also, I am interested in seeing what happens if Eva indeed goes and lives with the new doctor that was introduced. I could see this adding another layer to her story, maybe she will become more vixen-ish, on what type of relationship they end up having. And/or maybe she will end up becoming more hardened as she deals with being an outcast, especially if she falls out with Leslie as well. I think that AM will do a good job of showcasing the different layers of this character as she deals with the fallout of the affair/paternity reveal.

Got another sad news from the Bahamian community (not a celebrity)  https://www.instagram.com/p/DJMSrYCgyes/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== Former Bahamian Senate President J Henry Bostwick, Husband of former 1st Bahamian Female Cabinet Minister Dame Janet Bostwick is dead yesterday on his 86th birthday.    Thanks and for those who've aren't familiar with the talk shows in The Bahamas on this thread here, his talk show named The Freedom March with Dr Rodney Moncur that airs on ILTV and The Beat 103.5 FM Nassau every weekday afternoons. IIRC, he suffered a illness before he died.  Here's the link for his final taping of the show before his death: https://ewnews.com/this-is-powerful-rodney-moncurs-final-sign-off/

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
