GH-Casey the Alien. Introduced Faison, dealt a little with Anna’s past as a double agent and grief from losing Duke. It was implausible but as a kid I enjoyed it.

GH- The Panic Room. As much as I didn’t enjoy what the show was at that point, or what Liz had become, her seeing Carly was a thrilling cliffhanger.

Guiding Light: Mary Ann Carruthers story. Horrible retconning of history, with vets acting out of character, but I can't say I wasn't entertained by it. If it was for another soap with characters and families we hadn't known for 20+ years I would have been all for it.

GL: Dreaming Death and Infinity.  In the mid-'80's, GL came after GH hard with plots that, even then, looked and felt out of place on a show that had been, for the most part, a very grounded and relatable show.  Nevertheless, as a grade-schooler, I [!@#$%^&*] loved them for the suspense that they offered, as well as the fact that they seemed to tie in a great deal of the canvas.

Y&R's action/adventure storylines during the H. Wesley Kenney years (1982-1986). The police corruption/mob angles were tame in comparison to General Hospital and Days in that same era but action/adventure never really suited Y&R. I've often thought that adding action/adventure to Y&R was a CBS mandate to compete w/ General Hospital and Days.

The overall misogynistic vibe the show was mired in. The fact that Ric didn’t really pay for what he did. I remember thinking Liz was missing her brain quite a bit. But that cliffhanger is one of my all time favorites on GH. I would put it right under the Labine era shootout with Brenda in the shower/Laura’s house/Stone and Robin outside the Club on my list of favorite GH cliffhangers. Clink/Boom being number 1.

The original story was whimsical, which suited Lila. Plus it was wrapped up in Sean and Monica’s affair. The Tracy revisit was stupid and not fun to watch at all.

Oh OK, so that explains the action/adventure elements.

Brad in a cage was sort of a redo of Michael Scott in the dungeon. Bradley Bell dusted off his father's work on B&B w/ James in the dungeon.

My theory was that Bill Bell himself was attempting to compete with GH and DAYS (not to mention, primetime shows like "Miami Vice") but realized eventually that Y&R was its' own thing.

Yeah I don’t think anybody was telling Bell what to do. The only time his hand was fixed was the whole 1 hour thing.

Bill Bell was very complimentary about what Gloria Monty did at GH. In that joint interview he did with Claire Labine he clearly was familiar with the GH style and Luke & Laura. It would not surprise me if he just wanted to run some adventure through the show. I never felt Y&R had slipped into a GH clone as much as DAYS did.

    • Is there anything in print or fan lore or info about Don Stewart & temperament or behavior? Of course my brain could be playing tricks on me.
    • “On ERICA versus RACHEL, Erica was a very unique character. ... Rachel was a lower-class Erica, her mother was a cleaning woman, and her goals were not nearly stratospheric as Erica’s. Rachel just wanted to marry Russ or somebody with money. What Erica and Rachel have in common is they thought if they could get their dream, they’d be satisfied. But that dream has been very elusive.”– Agnes Nixon, Creator, ONE LIFE TO LIVE, ALL MY CHILDREN, and LOVING So my takeaway from this, plus knowing the characters, is that both Rachel & Erica schemed for acquisition. They wanted to acquire romance, husbands, prosperity, a kind of low-level fame or notoriety.  Am I correct in thinking that Carla schemed for safety, camouflage, to keep from getting caught & so for survival? Or did she also scheme for things similar to above?

    • Paula and Jeanne’s first time writing Alex and Stephanie. It didn’t seem like there were any changes in Alex at all lol but I can’t help  but think that that’s more on RSW than the writing. I didn’t see a big change with Stephanie either, but I did enjoy her scenes with Kayla, whose character has gotten so much stronger since last week. I hope we get to see a lot more of their relationship, and their relationship with Steve as well. As for Steve and Shawn stealing the drug to try to save Bo, idk. I don’t dislike it, but I just don’t know lol but I also think that it is time for Steve to pass the torch on to the next hero.  And finally, Javi showed some kind of spark! I was a little worried in his first scene today that he was going to continue to be so obsessed with Leo, but him demanding that Leo drop the investigation into Rafe and Gabi could actually be pretty interesting. I don’t think that would’ve happened under Ron. And if we’re forced to endure Javi/Leo, let them at least have some kind of actual conflict, instead of the forced, biased crap that we were subjected to. And speaking of Leo, one year ago today, he got Dimitri’s letter

Btw, why is Gabi so beholden to Javi? Cousin or not, if I was her, the minute he said to her, “If he goes, I go”, I would’ve been like  Also, are they going to go there with Philip and Gabi? I’d prefer that than Gabi getting involved with Alex.
    • She does look good in blue. I wish they'd do more with her hair, change it up the way JMW does now and then
