If this song had been released today instead of in 1979 the artists would have to spend a whole lot of time explaining that the lyrics are not a reflection of their views but those of some of the bigoted members of our society:

Arthur Alexander had a minor hit with "Anna (Go to Him)," a good song that only reached #68 in 1962. It later became the subject of a "Married...with Children" episode.

I am going to post (if available) all 101 songs on my favorite album, "The Doo Wop Box." Of course, not all of these songs I enjoy, and that holds true for the first tune (although it is tolerable).

Many argue that "It's Too Soon to Know" by the Orioles (which peaked at #13 in 1948) was the first doo-wop record ever made. Though I consider it to be more like blow harmony as opposed to doo-wop, I have read that this song had a huge impact on the R&B scene.

We have another "bird" group, the Ravens, who had what I consider to be the first doo-wop song, "Count Every Star" (1950). The single did not chart.
