During the week of May 23-27, 2022, “The View” (2.420 million), “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.680 million) and “The Talk” (1.619 million) experienced the strongest week-to-week gains with the ABC chatfest up +227,000 week-to-week and up +171,000 viewers compared to the same week last year. The second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.775 million) also saw week-to-week gains, +4,000 viewers compared to one week earlier. The show was down a mere -3,000 viewers versus its performance during the same week last year, however.

“The Bold and the Beautiful” (3.097 million) and “The Young and the Restless” (3.473 million) continue seeing massive year-to-year increases, up +357,000 and +260,000, respectively, compared to the same week last year. In fact, compared to their fifth consecutive week of classic episodes (reruns) in 2020, both soaps are seeing an increase of up to 1.5 million viewers each.

“General Hospital” (2.088 million) saw a big drop in viewers week-to-week, and a rare year-to-year decline, due to airing a rerun on Wednesday, May 25 in place of an original as a result of ongoing ABC News coverage from Uvalde, Texas. The rerun was included in the show’s weekly average.

With several preemptions impacting its airing schedule due to ongoing NBC News coverage from Uvalde, Texas, “Days of our Lives” (1.593 million) saw the biggest week-to-week drop of any daytime broadcast series, down -164,000 viewers, and fell behind both “GMA3: What You Need to Know” and “The Talk” in Total Viewers.

What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of May 23-27, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2021 and 2020, respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted soon.

Notes: Viewing levels were hitting multi-year highs in 2020 during the initial shutdown of the country due to COVID-19. “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless” began their months-long era of classic episodes which continued through late July 2020 and early August 2020, respectively. Comparable 2020 figures for “General Hospital” will return in August as the show aired reruns for most of the summer that year and was not rated (NR) by Nielsen.

Comparable 2020 figures for “GMA3: What Need to Know” are based on the performance of “Pandemic: What You Need to Know.” The current iteration was rebranded effective June 2020.
