Y&R february sweeps

Y&R lacks the patience or forethought to tell a story well, with all the details and beats, and rushes to unearned destinations. Other “stories,” like the Adam stuff, stay in holding patterns, yet we understand Adam no better than we did a year ago. Or ten years ago. It’s just a totally dissatisfying viewing experience.

I saw on Twitter a post that said in the latest SOD Recaps section that Devon will offer to be the sperm donor for Abby. One of the reporters from TV source also states they've known about this storyline for two weeks. I definitely don't like that.  I don't want him involved in that storyline like that. I also don't like Mariah being used as a surrogate for Abby. It's even worse that Chance isn't on screen when Abby is going forward with this.

Devon already has enough going on with being torn between Amanda/Elena. And it sounds like Moses may pop up soon. He doesn't need to be offering up his sperm to Abby/Mariah to create a baby for them. And this doesn't even make sense. Plus how will Amanda/Elena feel about him doing this, Amanda who had reservations about getting in a relationship with him and Elena who still has feelings for him. He has enough drama with those two, that he doesn't need to be involved with this Abby/Mariah storyline outside of being a friend they can confide in from time to time in this story.

lol, Darn. It really is awful. And doesn't make a lick of sense. Devon doesn't have any business offering to father a baby with Abby/Mariah, especially given he lost a child and the pain that caused him that he has romantic feelings for two women that aren't either Abby or Mariah. And he's starting a new relationship with one of them (Amanda). It doesn't make sense given all he's been through/going through that he would choose to donate sperm to a child he wouldn't raise. And I don't see how Amanda/Elena would be cool with what he's doing. I think that Amanda in particular would be really uncomfortable with it.

This would be less strange if Devon was single and neither Elena or Amanda were around. Though, I still wouldn't like it or think it makes a bunch of sense. Or even if neither Elena/Amanda were around and Devon/Abby had gotten closer after Chance disappeared. Like say Abby was led to believe he had died, and she ended up sleeping with Devon. And then Abby discovered she really could get pregnant. Granted people still wouldn't like that either, but that would make more sense than this storyline

I also don't like Mariah being the surrogate for Abby. It's not realistic. IRL Mariah would not be a good surrogate due to her never having giving birth before.  I dislike surrogacy storylines on the soaps (and in general) and this one big reason why. They often have a young woman who's never given birth before volunteering to be one for a woman she's normally not that close to and maybe has even despised in the past. It is just not realistic.

Thanks soapfan770.  It's nice to see you too.  I've been working a lot and haven't been around as much due to that. I am doing some catching up after falling behind on episodes and all of these latest developments seem rough, lol. Poor Devon. He shouldn't be used like this and neither should Mariah.

I do wonder where the show will end up going with this storyline. I wonder if this is all about giving Abby a child or is this some way to actually give Mariah a child and have it be fathered by a man she respects/trusts in Devon. I don't know, but I don't like to see Devon used like this. Or though I'm not a big fan of her, Mariah used like this either. Some people think this is foreshadowing that Devon will have a baby with Elena or Amanda and will rescind his offer to father Abby's baby. I hope he does rescind the offer.

This show is so weird. They realize that both Bryton and Camryn are popular and well-liked so they keep them employed yet they don't value either at all. Every story they get feels very begrudgingly executed, "Well I guess we have to write for fcuking Devon today.".

    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
    • It's a wild story for sure, especially the final conclusion (and fireworks offcamera, like Victoria Wyndham tearing into Michael Logan).
