Who here adores Alanis Morissette?

I fell in love with her almost 11 years ago when I first came across her brand of in your face, soul bearing singing and songwriting with the release of Jagged Little Pill.... she is just so amazing. Every song she sings its from the very depths of her soul.... all artists do this but I dunno I have just always been able to understand her songs and feel something for them. She has such a unique voice too and really puts it all out there on the line. She has softened a bit over the years but still can crank out one of those angry revenge tunes. Alanis rocks my socks!

That I would Be Good One of my favourite songs of hers.

that I would be good even if I did nothing

that I would be good even if I got the thumbs down

that I would be good if I got and stayed sick

that I would be good even if I gained ten pounds

that I would be fine even if I went bankrupt

that I would be good if I lost my hair and my youth

that I would be great if I was no longer queen

that I would be grand if I was not all knowing

that I would be loved even when I numb myself

that I would be good even when I am overwhelmed

that I would be loved even when I was fuming

that I would be good even if I was clingy

that I would be good even if I lost sanity

that I would be good

whether with or without you

I mainly have enjoyed her earlier music.

She is proud to be Canadian though and is not afraid to show it either.

Her hit "Eight Easy Steps" that came out two years ago was pretty good, but nothing will top "Jagged Little Pill" or "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie" or whatever that was called.

She has evolved as an artist and her third studio album Under Rug Swept, in which she produced and wrote all on her own IMO was her best body of work. But yeah I love all her stuff. Eigh Easy Steps was an awesome song.

I heard this song of hers a while back and thought it was just horrifically... sad, LoL.

"Your House"

I went to your house

Walked up the stairs

Opened the door without ringing the bell

Walked down the hall

Into your room where I could smell you

And I shouldn't be here

Without permission

Shouldn't be here...

Would you forgive me love if I danced in your shower?

Would you forgive me love if I laid in your bed?

Would you forgive me love if I stay all afternoon?

I took off my clothes

Put on your robe

Went through your drawers

And I found your cologne

Went down to the den

Found your cd's

And I played your Joni

And I shouldn't stay long

You might be home soon

Shouldn't stay long

Would you forgive me love if I danced in your shower?

Would you forgive me love if I laid in your bed?

Would you forgive me love if I stay all afternoon?

I burned your incense

I ran a bath

I noticed a letter that sat on your desk

It said:

'Hello, love.

I love you so, love.

Meet me at midnight.'

And no, it wasn't my writing

I'd better go soon

It wasn't my writing

So forgive me love If I cry in your shower

So forgive me love for the salt in your bed

So forgive me love If I cry all afternoon

I love "Your House" SO MUCH. It might be my favorite song off Jagged Little Pill, and it's not even a listed track! So haunting with the a cappella vocals. The silence feels so stark and painful.

OMG!!!! Thankyou for this thread. Alanis is my favorite singer of all time!! I have two favorite songs.

"You Oughta Know"

I want you to know, that I'm happy for you

I wish nothing but the best for you both

An older version of me

Is she perverted like me

Would she go down on you in a theatre

Does she speak eloquently

And would she have your baby

I'm sure she'd make a really excellent mother

Cause the love that you gave that we made wasn't able

To make it enough for you to be open wide, no

And every time you speak her name

Does she know how you told me you'd hold me

Until you died, till you died

But you're still alive

And I'm here to remind you

Of the mess you left when you went away

It's not fair to deny me

Of the cross I bear that you gave to me

You, you, you oughta know

You seem very well, things look peaceful

I'm not quite as well, I thought you should know

Did you forget about me Mr. Duplicity

I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner

It was a slap in the face how quickly I was replaced

Are you thinking of me when you [!@#$%^&*] her

Cause the love that you gave that we made wasn't able

To make it enough for you to be open wide, no

And every time you speak her name

Does she know how you told me you'd hold me

Until you died, til you died

But you're still alive

And I'm here to remind you

Of the mess you left when you went away

It's not fair to deny me

Of the cross I bear that you gave to me

You, you, you oughta know

Cause the joke that you laid on the bed that was me

And I'm not gonna fade

As soon as you close your eyes and you know it

And every time I scratch my nails down someone else's back

I hope you feel it...well can you feel it

And I'm here to remind you

Of the mess you left when you went away

It's not fair to deny me

Of the cross I bear that you gave to me

You, you, you oughta know

...and "Hands Clean"

If it weren't for your maturity none of this would have happened

If you weren't so wise beyond your years I would've been able to control myself

If it weren't for my attention you wouldn't have been successful and

If it weren't for me you would never have amounted to very much

Ooh this could be messy

But you don't seem to mind

Ooh don't go telling everybody

And overlook this supposed crime

We'll fast forward to a few years later

And no one knows except the both of us

And I have honored your request for silence

And you've washed your hands clean of this

You're essentially an employee and I like you having to depend on me

You're kind of my protege and one day you'll say you learned all you know from me

I know you depend on me like a young thing would to a guardian

I know you sexualize me like a young thing would and I think I like it

Ooh this could get messy

But you don't seem to mind

Ooh don't go telling everybody

And overlook this supposed crime

We'll fast forward to a few years later

And no one knows except the both of us

And I have honored your request for silence

And you've washed your hands clean of this

What part of our history's reinvented and under rug swept?

What part of your memory is selective and tends to forget?

What with this distance it seems so obvious?

Just make sure you don't tell on me especially to members of your family

We best keep this to ourselves and not tell any members of our inner posse

I wish I could tell the world cuz you're such a pretty thing when you're done up properly

I might want to marry you one day if you watch that weight and keep your firm body

Ooh this could be messy and

Ooh I don't seem to mind

Ooh don't go telling everybody

And overlook this supposed crime

First CD was definitely A M A Z I N G ! Slowly, it's been downhill from there, in spite of a few highlights.

I love Alanis!!! Loved her latest accoustic CD...

yeah she is such an AMAZING un-plugged/acoustic performer. Her MTV Un-plugged special and CD was absolutely amazing. SXhe is the type of artis where an intimate surrounding suits her. I'd kill to see her live!

I love her! :D

Haven't paid much attention to her after she released "Under Rug Swept"...I don't really dig her new pop sound.

But everything before that...amazing stuff...especially the material off of "Jagged Little Pill"! My favourite songs are "Head Over Feet", "Forgiven", and "Thank You". I love the video to "So Pure"..pretty creative with the different dances and time periods..it looked like a fun one to make.

It's ironic (pun intended) that she was like Canadian teen pop star before she went all rock. I was shocked when I saw one of her old videos..she was soo different then! She was dancing and singing to pop music and dressed the genre as well.

Yeah she was a dance pop queen in the early 90's here in Canada. LOL Some of her old videos are on youtube I think. LOL She though broke free from that went to L.A and found an outlet for her style inside.... she has kinda softened in recent years but still she is not mainstream like all those other girls... she just does what she does and still has legions of loyal fans all over the world. Love me some Alanis :)

She pretty much defined my childhood. I loved Jagged Little Pill. I remember I bought it myself (I had to have been 9 or 10 at the time) because I was pretty sure that my parents wouldn't have bought it for me. Her other albums weren't as good, but I loved the acoustic version of JLP that was released last year.

You know how some songs/artists make you feel nostalgic?? I think that AM does that for me.
