Things only got worse as the show moved to Friday and flamed out. Don't know what NBC was thinking ordering a 90 min series with no suitable timeslot.

I meant to comment on this earlier but wow a 90 minute show in the early 80’s sounds insane. What had worked in the early 60’s for the Virginian was a one time thing.

Was NBC that desperate? I guess they were “inspired” by 90-minute AW?

Hotel was the perfect complement to Dynasty. It had the same soapy appeal, but you didn't have to follow a continuing story and worry about missing an episode.

Makes sense. I do wonder if the Shapiros had tried to get Emerald Point on ABC at all to air after Dynasty to build a true soap double bill like Dallas and FC.

It was a nice, soft place to land after all the melodrama emanating from Casa Carrington, lol.

LOL I remember my parents flipping over to St Elsewhere and/or The Equalizer instead of Hotel.

Believe me, I would've done the same, lol. "Hotel" was a nice show for what it was, but I think it belonged on Saturdays after "The Love Boat" and "Fantasy Island."
