The Justin Timberlake Thread

Not to be a contrarian, but, I wonder if we can throw Justin a bone for being just as young and easily manipulated as Britney?

He was 19 when his solo project was being produced.  He didn't write Cry Me a River, nor did he direct or conceptualize the video.  It is equally likely that a PR person at his record company came up with the Britney cheated narrative to promote his first solo single.  JC Chasez was releasing a solo project the same year, and it is probable that Justin's team felt the need to supplant his record with some sort of drama in order to gain more press.  Arguably JC was a better singer and dancer, but Justin won the charm offensive, and was more willing to use his personal life to promote his career.

With regard to Janet, he is 100% at fault for the "wardrobe malfunction".  However, he could not control the narrative of how the press portrayed the situation.  I believe that there is no statement that he could have made at the time that would have turned the tide for Janet because a mixture of racism and sexism fueled the tabloid media.

I've always agreed with Allmusic.com's Stephen Thomas Erlewine, who says that Justin Timberlake's music is all surface and no substance, like a "showbiz kid" who's trying too hard.

In my area, not being too far from there, it’s the talk of the region.

Who, in this day and age of Uber and multiple car service providers, even gets behind the wheel of a vehicle after drinking alcohol??

He was obviously released shortly after reports came out but the entertainment shows are all over the story.

Not only does he have access to all of these services, he also likely has a PR person and an agent/manager who he likely have on speed dial and could discreetly arrange transportation for him, in case he was preoccupied with the tabloids (if he was worried about tabloid leaks of being intoxicated in an Uber, a DWI is much worse but drinking can often leads to poor judgment), a PR person or agent would have discreetly handled the situation. He and the people of Sag Habor are fortunate that he didn’t hit someone. This could have resulted in tragedy.

JT has only one issue, and that's being a mediocre white male who's over the hill and who had to appropriate Black culture in order to be successful.

    • You're really in for it, because those rants continue for 3 episodes. I was struck by how ho-hum those cliffhangers were. It was like the writers ran out of gas.

    • Thank you for the clarification, but Susan didn't name her child after David.  It was Julie who named her son David.   And how/when was Susan's son killed?  And didn't Susan kill David Martin and stand trial for his murder?
    • I truly wish we could see more of her work on DAYS. And more of her early stuff on GH, but at least we know that Corday’s DAYS vault is virtually complete, especially compared to GH. Lesley was a pivotal character. I think the scenes with the confrontation with Monica are so good because there is a lot of character in those lines and performances. Monica is ferocious, desperate. And Lesley is not a victim, she holds her own and calls Monica out, playing her own form of anger. Evenly matched. Soap confrontations have largely forgotten that both sides should be evenly matched, even if someone has wronged another. To me, that scene is easily in my soap hall of fame. They didn’t make enough of her return, which has always bothered me. I would have loved for her to end up vying for control of the hospital when Alan was incapacitated by drugs, helping him through that crisis and finding herself at odds with Monica again on a different level, not as romantic rivals. She had such a long career! Acting in radio shows as a little kid, through her GH spots as few years ago. That’s quite a ride.
    • Damn I was hoping Lesley would be at Monica's memorial  Hoping GH gives Lesley an on screen memorial
    • Today's episode was serviceable, but the cliffhangers were disappointing!
    • I just got to the first set of Dante ranting at Gio episodes and I really need him to shut the hell up. Gio literally was at the party with people his own age and didn’t even know Dante’s kid snuck out to a party. Talking about I could charge you for serving a minor? This is just really stupid writing.
    • Back up a bit. Susan & Julie were best friends. Tom thought David too old for Julie & forbade her to see him. They continued but they had to sneak around.  So they couldn't always get together when they wanted to. One of THOSE nights David got drunk. At the same time for different reasons Susan had a huge fight with her parents, slammed out the door & went & also got drunk. David & Susan comforted each other & things took their usual course From that one  drunken night, Susan got pregnant. The 3 made a joint decision. He would marry her to give the child his name & then they would divorce. Is it any wonder this did not go according to plan. Bill Bell wrote this. So best friends became bitter enemies.   I am the exception because I had no problem suspending my disbelief to go along with the LaSalles. I love Marisa as much as I loved Mary. Reginald, always a problem to me, And, Robert Hogan had to be Vince. WhIle I'm at it I am glad that didn't do anything with making Scott a triplet.
    • All good @ChristosM, we appreciate you.  You’re awesome, thanks so much @rsclassicfanforever
