This is just alienating viewers for people who are still not going to watch.

Exactly. People just care less and less about these types of award shows.

I agree with cutting the documentary and short categories.  But all those other categories are important parts of a movie and I always looked forward to those categories.  Actors, directors, and producers should threaten to boycott unless those movie categories are brought back.  Mark Harris is right, just produce a good show.  Ratings are going to be low no matter what.

I completely agree with that first tweet from Mark Harris, but if this decision has to be made, original score should not be one of the categories. A John Williams or Alexandre Desplat and the like have a great number of fans amongst movie buffs and the score is such a huge part of the enjoyment of a film.

This is a good speech. I giggled when Will Smith mentioned that the Williams/Price family would not put their names on the film until they saw the final cut ("...cuz we do be messin' stuff up sometimes"). Venus looks gorgeous 😍.

I DVR it! I'm glad he won. Hope to see it later on today.

So well deserved. And long overdue.

Been a fan of Will since Fresh Prince.   Thought he was great in King Richard. Really hope he wins the Oscar.

CODA now takes the lead in the Best Picture race.

Just proof of just how quickly things can change.

Speaking of how things can change quickly, I wonder if that interview that Sam Elliott did (that is getting so much backlash right now) will impact Jane Campion and/or Benedict Cumberbatch? And if so, how much?

I could have gone the rest of my life not knowing that Sam Elliott was a homophobic bastard.  When will actors learn to keep their damn mouths shut?
