"The Conners" Discussion Thread

It isn't a "cynical, horrible" choice, but I'm not sure I would have written out the character that way.  I think I would have had her die on the operating table during knee surgery instead.

I hadn't seen her in a while, aside from an occasional statement she makes that gets noticed. She looks about the same as she has for a long time. I always forget she and Johnny were in that Vacation movie as the kids were kind of superfluous by that time. I wonder if he had a hand in her casting.

Johnny seems to really fit Roseanne (or The Conners as it is now called) even after all these years. I'd say more than he did on BBT.

I thought they handled the David/Darlene issue very well in Season 10 given his other commitments, and it was clear they were setting JG up to recur. I'm happy that's continuing. (Now if I could only find a place to watch the rest of the season in HQ...)

She was likely overmedicating, so it's not out of the realm of reality she'd overdose and die (she also can't be super healthy). I'll have to see how it's handled. I can understand why she'd be offended but it's something she'd do herself though, IMO. LOL. I imagine it would have continued this season. They clearly wanted to tell an addiction story.

I like that she'll be a regular. Looks like good casting.

And I love Juliette Lewis playing David's girlfriend Blue. Absolutely perfect casting.

And I agree with you @DRW50 about Galecki. He always felt out of place to me on BBT, personally. And he became grumpy on-screen, imo. He was much better and felt more at home on Roseanne.

I am looking forward to this. I watched the first episode of season 10, but Roseanne's deplorable antics ultimately made me decide not to stick with it. I'm excited that the rest of the cast is getting this shot, and I will definitely be supporting them!

As for Roseanne's cause of death - I'm not mad! I expected she'd die during surgery but this death isn't out of left field. It will all boil down to how they approach it, IMO.

The lovely Aisha Tyler was back on The Talk today and I saw the first minute or two, where they plugged the People cover story/interview with John, Laurie and Sara. They then cut to Sara and it really would break your heart - she looked so crushed inside. This year has turned into such a hell for her I don't know how she copes.

    • I'm not sure how I felt about it, but I do kind of like that it felt like the show telling us this concludes the first chapter of the series. Could be interesting if they only do it for big aftermath episodes. The biggest mistake with Martin is that it's almost hard to buy his anger because we've gotten no strong scenes with him and his parents. They've all been with Anita/Vernon. I can't even remember him ever even saying one word to Nicole, even in passing.
    •   Thank you! Agreed on both posts. And the comments about Mike Manning are nonsense.
    • I haven't watched yet, but did they explain the current ownership of The Bistro?  Because when RonC was writing, wasn't he applying for work with Sophia?
    • I think Brandon has gotten better in normal day to day scenes, but he’s very over the top when the character is meant to be angry or agitated. I did laugh when she started yelling at Leslie and then when he started to throw all those damn books, lol. He needs an acting coach to work out some of these kinks.
    • I've never found him as bad as some. I think he's always shined in scenes with Vernon, who should be his father. I also think he has great chemistry with Kat and Dani which I hope they tap into more over time. Dani/Martin feel like such a fun and believable Auntie/Nephew relationship.
    • I'm fighting for my life on another board for my husband Brandon and I'll do it here too lmao
    • I don't expect Lois to be the same person she was 25 years ago, but she's definitely lost a lot of what made Lois unique.  It's clear the show doesn't know how to write for her, and the sole purpose of Lois is to hide this Gio secret.  It's a shame she doesn't interact with more of the canvas.  It's a waste of Rena's talents. I like Brook Kerr most of the time.  She can be hit or miss.  I totally get what you are saying about her line readings too.  I honestly think the character really suffers being stuck in the Curtis pairing.  She's much better than Tanisha Harper's Jordan lol.
    • Friday and yesterday's episode is what daytime television should be. The other shows airing could take a page from yesterday's show.  I loved the rage, hurt and anger Nicole unleashed on Ted.  Daphnee should be up for an Emmy nom for these scenes.  It broke my heart to see how Dana had locked Eva out.  I do feel sorry for Eva.    I am still bumfuzzled as to why Leslie/Dana went to the DuPree's and asked them to accept Kat UNLESS Eva is really Kat's twin (and really Nicole and Ted's daughter that maybe they though they lost or an embryo Dana/Leslie stole??) I loved how Anita and Vernon both shot her down.    Ohhh and let me just say Friday and yesterday was the MOST fire I have seen Martin have since the show started.  Maybe Brandon Clayborn is coming into his own with the role finally.
