GH: Classic Thread

I tend to wonder from time to time what Laura would've looked like under Guza's second writing run from 02 to 11. Whether she would've been paired up with someone else ala Luke & Tracy. Maybe Mac? Or someone younger. Cameron would've been interesting. Or perhaps they would've brought Scott back after PC was canned and tried that pairing again.
It still boggles to my mind why JFP took such an axe to so many vets during her reign to which the show around 05/06/07 became almost unrecognisable from where it was at the beginning of the decade. I still look at that shootout in the church in 05 with Sonny/Jason/Faith/etc like one of my friends being beaten up to a pulp. Just so unpleasant and just so un-GH in the process. And yet I can imagine Guza foaming at the month for scenes like that.

Primetime stars - Their hits and misses...

Looking at it, NBC's Wednesday Mystery Movie Night (with Banacek / Madigan / Cool Million) were at #43 in the 1972-73 season with a 19.2 rating. Only Banacek survived out of that lot. The next season the night was down to #46 with a 17.6 rating with a rotating line-up of Banacek / Tenafly / Faraday & Company / The Snoop Sisters. The next season they just did away with the Wednesday line up of mystery movies, so I suspect Banacek simply was performing the best of a mediocre bunch. Peppard might've been contracted to the studio for another season, but I don't think NBC or anyone in charge fought to keep him in his contract.

I think regardless, the show really needed to switch it up a bit and just adding Tiffany and going on business as usual wasn't going to cut it. Sabrina staying might've kept higher ratings for a bit longer, but I do think that by season 5 it was going to start to fall off if they didn't do something. I think they were on the right track with trying to make it a bit "grittier" in season 5, but then you had them add Tanya who, bless her heart, was more in tune with the T&A version the media accused them of being rather than taking the show in a new direction.

I think if Guza hadn't had to leave for Sunset Beach, and if Genie hadn't then been gone for like a year and possibly returned with new BTS issues/conditions between her and Tony, we'd have a better sense of how he would've handled Laura. Laura in '99-'00 felt like a constricted character to me in a lot of ways and while Guza was certainly no stranger to preferences, whims and misogyny I don't think all of that was on the show.
We certainly would've seen something different in the 2000s, since by most accounts it was not Guza's choice to let her walk in '02. I have no idea what that decade looks like if Genie had stayed. It might have mitigated some of his worst choices and instincts.

GH: Classic Thread

I would argue the Frank Smith story lagged on a little longer than it should've but I felt it was a fun return for L&L and a good debut for Lucky & Sonny. That and the Puerto Rico story was a hell of fun. Watching the Sonny/Brenda chase sequence decades later is still incredibly thrilling.
I'm curious during Riche's run whether Labine or Guza better served Laura in that time. They each have their pros and cons but was curious to know what others thought.

BTG: September 2026 Discussion Thread

I'm finally all caught up but I don't think the show is as bad as some here believe. Yes, there hasn't been a lot of story movement, at least with some stories like Hayley poisoning Bill, but I am enjoying the introduction of Heather and her past with Andre.
I will also admit the Impaler/Red Market story isn't riveting or the ridiculous lawsuit against Madison isn't awarding winning material either but I love the characters involved and I am willing to see them play out.
MVJ has created a mesmerizing world of interesting and compelling characters. For a show that hasn't been on two years yet, it has accomplished an awful lot. I'm not going to crucify them for a few growing pains that I am confident TPTB will work out sooner than later.
I'm just happy the show exist at all and I will vigorously continue supporting it.

I don't like BTG being in last place but hopefully it will bounce back soon. The show has been in a holding pattern the past few weeks but it hasn't been terrible IMO.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread

B&E don't last too much longer, iirc, so whatever they had planned was cut short. But this is just wrong-headed. Cassie may have been liked, but she hasn't been on long enough to anchor an entire new world around. Richard isn't dynamic enough (I don't care about what his stans thought...) to bust up a long standing couple. Josh being threatened by another man might've been an interesting twist, but it's a hard sell to believe that after fighting for nearly five years (or however long Reva had been back), that her resurfaced memories would've really challenged their "great love".
