TV Line discusses a brief synopsis for Season 2. But I'll tag it anyway:

The new season kicks off three months after Lucious’ arrest. Knowing Lucious won’t be held much longer in prison, Cookie and her allies within the Lyon family make a desperate attempt to seize control of Empire. But as the Lyons continue to battle each other, a bigger external threat emerges that could force them to unite.

So this happened:

Trying to find a video of the full number, with "You're So Beautiful" and Jussie Smollett.

Marisa Tomei joins the show.

Fox smash Empire is adding to the list of high-profile guest star/recurring players for Season 2. Marisa Tomei, whose Oscar-winning role as Mona Lisa Vito in My Cousin Vinny can rival Taraji P. Henson’s Cookie in the sass department, has signed on for a multi-episode arc on the hip-hop series. She will play Mimi Whiteman, a demanding venture capitalist who becomes involved in Lyon family drama. A Forbes list billionairess, Mimi is a lover of hip hop music, social trends, high-end fashion and beautiful women.

Marisa's had a major career resurgence in the last decade and she has real chops. I'm pretty excited about this.
