BELLE

BELLE is inspired by the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), the illegitimate mixed race daughter of a Royal Navy Admiral. Raised by her aristocratic great-uncle (Tom Wilkenson) and his wife (Emily Watson), Belle's lineage affords her certain privileges, yet the color of her skin prevents her from fully participating in the traditions of her social standing. Left to wonder if she will ever find love, Belle falls for an idealistic young vicar's son bent on change who, with her help, shapes Lord Mansfield's role as Lord Chief Justice to end slavery in England. © Fox Searchlight.

I saw this preview before Mandela, and I really want to see this.

Can't wait. Some really good acting gonna take place in this movie!

I saw this promo. I am not really interested in seeing it in the movies, but it is good to see this kind of movie being made based on a true story about a woman of African descent in a Britain in the 18th century.

I almost never go to the theater anymore. I will wait to see it OnDemand or iTunes. But I think the lead is so beautiful, and I find the story intriguing.

The story is very intriguing but lacking, especially when the movie is an hour and 37 minutes long. They didn't do enough with the plot (very little was done with Belle and her circumstances), and it took me a minute to figure out what that was - Insurance Fraud, can man (slaves) really be classified as cargo? So much more could have been done here, but this is what happens when you entice the 17 year olds with the length of a movie but look to their parents to pay for it. Can't properly tell a story because the target audience won't pay attention long enough? Ugh!

Gugu (Belle) and Tom Wilkinson's "father/daughter" chemistry was wonderful. Of course he is a master class, but she earned her stripes in the acting department.

Excellent acting all around.

Young Belle? The casting must have called for the prettiest little girl on the planet and they certainly found her.

I'm really not interested in seeing yet another movie about blacks being oppressed in white societies. When will Hollywood make a movie about the illustrious African civilizations that thrived before it was pillaged by colonization? Oh.... NEVER
