GH promo: Mob War!

I was around back then. It was Steve who didn't want it.

Somewhere along the line either someone became enamored of putting Maurice and Sarah together or they did themselves - I can't remember which - but I do remember it absolutely shocked and repulsed me as a viewer at the time. As an adult looking at that period again I would have seen it coming, because Guza had clearly been playing with it for a while up to that point. And then I ended up loving it. Until she left, that is.

These organizations consist of like four people each?

Sonny's mob= Sonny, Shawn, Duke, and the injured Max. And it seems from what Sonny has said on the show the other day he has not replaced Bernie yet (and he has been dead for over a year now) Jerome's= Julian, Ava, Carlos and Morgan. So Guess you are right :)

As a die hard Jarly fan (seriously, they're what got me watching and my hell was it the hottest non-couple I've ever seen!) I can say that it was definitely Steve that didn't want the pairing. I wouldn't even be surprised if it's part of the reason he left the show. Which is a shame because I thought he and Sarah had explosive chemistry! Of course, everyone was wanting Sonny and Carly to happen after hate sex while I just felt disgusted by it all. I finally did warm to them once Steve left and actually came to love them until Carly suddenly only existed for Sonny. Luckily Sarah left not too long after and pod Carly has been walking around ever since!

Seriously, that is what I was told, but it's no big deal. I'm just curious as to why Steve didn't want what was obviously a successful pairing? I was told that SJB didn't want it because she felt Sonny was the more up and coming character, and that is who she wanted Carly to be paired with.

My understanding was for Steve it was religious/character reasons that he conflated onto the characters - because as we all know, Jason was a Holy Warrior. Also he was allegedly put off by Brown's aggressive personality, and into the stuff with Liz/Becky Herbst. There was also another supposed IRL reason related to religion that doesn't hold water with me.

I always wondered if Sarah being Jewish had anything to do with Steve's resistance to the pairing. Regardless, Jason and Carly worked back then and I'm still bitter over them tiptoeing around the pairing for so long just to have it end with hate sex. Sigh.

I'm sure Sarah was all for a Sonny and Carly pairing once it became obvious that Steve was against Jarly. It definitely helped make Carly the lead female character on the show once Carson were a go. Although I always preferred pre-Carson Carly to any Carly from 96-present. But that was back when the writing was good and Sarah was at her best! Man, this is making me miss the GH of yore. sad.png

I remember him saying things like Jason would never move on from Robin to someone like Carly. He also always described them as friends and his interest was in Michael and protecting them from the Q's. That's why he liked the Liz of that era because she was another chaste, tragic character at that time on the show. When he came back he wasn't as against playing it a little, but with a new actress.
