Members YRBB
First trailer for movie 2: I'm starting to really dislike the look of the movie, the fakeness, the extreme CGI-ness, but I will be watching, of course.
Members Ann_SS
I disliked the first movie, but Legolas definitely tempts me to go see this second one.
Members YRBB
I must be one of the few who never cared for Orlando Bloom, although I think Legolas, as a character, is cool. My sister wants to see it because of Legolas as well but I don't know if he'll have more than a few minutes of airtime.
Members Ann_SS
Based on the preview it does look like Legolas is in a major story.
Members I Am A Swede
I wish they wouldn't have made it into a trilogy. There just isn't enough story in "The Hobbit" to fill three movies, especially if they all are close to three hours in length. They have obviously had to fill out the time with material that simply doesn't belong in this story. Adding Legolas and Evangeline Lilly's character is a prime example. The elves play only a small part in the book after all. Of course, this will not stop me from going to see it, but it does irritate me a little. Members Ann_SS
I am not sure that I going to see this in the theatre. I am going to wait for the reviews before making a decision. I cannot imagine how they are going to stretch out the story to fit two more movies. I thought that Evangeline Lilly was retiring from acting. RME. Members I Am A Swede
Bought my ticket today, and will go see it next Thursday. The reviews have been quite positive so far, and, as expected, it has already become a box office success here. Over 80.000 tickets sold on opening day. Members ThePrinceOfSunspear
Way better than the first. Consistent action throughout the film and the last third is JIST incredible.... And it's official I wanna have Benedict Cumberbatch's children. Even as the voice of dragon the guy was destroying me....
Members YRBB
That's great to hear! Looking forward to seeing it. I just HAVE to ask, because I'm dying of curiosity: Do we get the I think they showed the beginning of it in the first movie but not sure. I am DYING to see that. Cumberbatch just does things to me, I can't even go there.
Members ThePrinceOfSunspear
RE your question they kinda go there. I'll be honest I haven't been able to make it thru the book itself yet so I don't know all the details of the scene you're inquiring about. But from my vantage point it was pretty well done. That dragon tho....every scene with Smaug is just so intense and grabs you.
Members YRBB
Thanks! Honestly, it's not even a scene in the book. From what I remember, Gandalf returns and I am hoping we'll actually get to SEE it in this movie or the next one. I'm glad the Smaug scenes were good. I intend to go Sunday! Members I Am A Swede
Ok, I admit it, I was wrong! About every negative thing I said beforehand. I LOVE this movie, and I love this trilogy. I'm gonna say it.... it's better than the LOTR trilogy. The only small criticism I have concerns the escape from the elves. It looked too much like a videogame. But the rest.... awesome! I even liked Legolas, and I wasn't that keen on him in the LOTR movies. And Evangeline Lilly's character fit in perfectly. I know, I know, she wasn't in the book, but frankly I don't care. It worked, and it worked beautifully. I even loved the little thing between her Tauriel and Aidan Turner's Kili. And what can you say about Martin Freeman.... He's absolutely perfect as Bilbo. Perfect! And I bow down to the genius of Peter Jackson. I didn't think the decision to make a trilogy would work, but now I wish they had made more than a trilogy. I don't want it to end after the next movie.... Umm, Peter, ever heard of a little book called "The Silmarillion".....?
Members YRBB
I'll join the chorus of people saying that this was better than the first movie--and I really, really enjoyed An Unexpected Journey. I really loved how you are thrown right into the middle of action here and it just goes and goes and goes from there. Seriously, at some point I thought we must be close to the end, how will they have time to do all the dragon stuff and then realized we were only an hour into the film. It was just so dense. And it gave me the scene I have been waiting for since the movies were announced: A magical fight between Gandalf & Sauron! It was epic. Smaug was truly amazing. A wonderful CGI creation. His mere existence was terrifying. I still have an issue with the effects other than Smaug. They went for a much more stylized/fairytale-like, almost other-worldly, look and I just can't get used to it. And some shots were just bad. The liquid gold looked horrible, for example. But it ended at a great moment and I cannot wait to see how they end this and bridge it to LOTR. I wonder who we'll see and who we won't! LOL I am under the impression they couldn't get the rights to it.
