The comic timing and subtlety of Chad Duell, able to work with multiple actors, and Michael's integration with all the different people he is related to across the canvas, including the Quartermaines, having had to grow up fast after a horrific experience in prison; Bryan Craig's range as shown by the contrast between scared Morgan on his first day and the cocky Morgan of later days, Morgan putting a brave face of independence but not knowing who he really is because he was sent off to boarding school and all he really knows is he's tired of his parents fighting; Halley Pullos's authentic, really a teen, Molly, talented writer and compassionate, but perhaps not honest with herself about her feelings; Tequan Richmond's mix of sensitive and brash in TJ, who has had to deal with loss early with his father having died; Jimmy Deshler's Rafe finding his own way too after being orphaned, his mother killed before him by his psycho bio dad, caring about others but not above breaking up another couple for love...

I'm not saying the GH younger set is perfect or even that they can carry the show through the summer. But as you asked, the above is what I like about them -- they're not one-note, they have complexity and dimensions to them, and all of them are portrayed by decent to good actors. It's too soon for me to pass a verdict on Kiki.

They sure beat one-dimensional bad Liz and goody two shoes Sarah of GH 1997 (why I will always not care about Liz -- the poor way she was introduced) -- with atrocious song accompanying a forced Sarah/Nik pairing that went "Me Loving You Loving Me" -- and the awful eyerolling, line-slurring, no-subtlety AMC teens of today.

I agree that I wish I could see DAYS having some good solid gains over the past couple weeks of ratings.. but I think we are seeing some good solid growth.. The year to year numbers are up (in total viewers, and even more importantly in the most important category.. W18-49 and W 18-34).. That's saying alot considering younger viewers are fleeing network TV in droves for netflix, cable, internet, etc... I think even to stay even in those demos would be a huge accomplishment, but to gain is amazing!! I wonder how many hits nbc.com gets for the daily episodes and how much of a factor that plays into the revenue/income for the show.

Days is still unwatchable drek. I suppose if you're a newer viewer <1 year, you might find it entertaining, but to anyone who really knows the characters, it's a horrible, horrible, show these days.

I agree that General Hospital wasn't as good 2 weeks ago with the Spew/relish nonsense, but this past week, with Maura & Jane having scenes, it was quite good. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a show that I want to tune into immediately every night when I get home. I can't say that about any of the rest of them, including the online ones.

About the demographics, for the life of me I'll never understand why women 18-34 is so damn important to advertisers. Brand loyalty is rare these days, especially among that generation, and even worse, most people I know in that age range typically don't have the luxury of enough disposable income to be able to be that picky about what they buy. They buy what's on sale, period.

I have watched less than a year, but many who have praised DAYS lately such as JackPeyton, Cat, KMan101, jo.frank, Ira, SouthOfSoap and plenty more in the DAYS thread and this thread are longtime viewers.

On another note, I'm glad you're liking GH too, and agree with you about Ava/Tracy!

About the demos, I don't think 18-34 are as big a deal as 18-49. It is good that DAYS has stabilized in both those, and I hope it's enough to stave off any rumored drastic writing change.

I'm a longtime DAYS viewer! Lol started in 1982 when I was only 6. I'm currently praising the show as it has become a well written, character driven soap again. Only time I didn't watch was for a period during 2004 when DAYS became Passions like and way too over the top. JER's first DAYS stint was awesome! But his second stint he didn't stick to what made DAYS #2 under his tenure. He instead tried to make the show Passions like and it was horrible.

GH had me hooked through the Nurses Ball, but it just sucks now. Carlivati has the bad habit of ending all of his stories at once, so you have these lulls and unfortunately I don't find any of the new storylines interesting. I'm not surprised the ratings are down, but I do appreciate that he's featuring new characters instead of going in circles with the same ones.

    • So I'm seeing cuz the catch-up has been brutal. All I can do (besides look at fashion) is smh.
    • Wow. What an episode. Deidre truly broke my heart today. Not much else to say. Just an incredible love story ending.    I’m amazed they couldn’t or didn’t try go get either Claire actress while both of her grandfathers are on death’s door. Hope sensing John had passed was a nice heartbreaking touch. The rest of the week is going to be so hard.
    • -- The fashions are at least something to talk about, because we're definitely not getting any story. I mean, this stuff is dreadful. -- I do like how they're dressing Nikki. Its hugely different from before, but I'll take it. -- At least she doesn't look like Ashley, who's dressed like a clinically-depressed Cruella DeVille. -- Nick without a jacket just looks odd. -- I see Mark Grossman again gained about 15 lbs. when he was away on vacation. The sharp cheekbones are gone and the double chin is back. Hate to be mean, but I hope he loses the weight. -- All that talk about all Claire did to plan that "party." Excuse me? There's nothing go on, and outside of some tacky Happy Birthday signage and tablecloths from Kohls, I don't know what they're talking about.

2025 year-to-date: 64 episodes monthly leaders: as of May 2025 (appearing episodes/total episodes, per month) directors + writers: pre-emptions: seven total pre-emptions + one National delay A very special thanks to @alexisfan07 for the double and triple checking of stats! A huge help that is much appreciated.
    • You're right, but that also sums up why the show is so unwatchable these days. Any character could go on a Postal-style rampage and it would generate a shrug.
    • I'd be surprised if it was. Money is money. And yeah, Kathy's done all those things but tbh given the current tally for ruinous character choices in EE in recent years I'm kind of numb to it and find hers small potatoes by comparison.
    • Does anyone know the air dates on these first encounters? Nikki meeting Brittany Nikki meeting Amber Victor meeting Deacon
    • I’m up to August 5, 1996. Another change to the opening music. The hollow whooshing sound is gone and they’ve add a soft rock, synthesizer-style sound to this more upbeat version. Ugh - they let Gilly and Griffin kiss before she found out the truth. So gross, what’s the point? And now once the truth has come out, Charles is like “oh yeah, I’ve always known he was your father, no big deal”?  What was all of this for? If he really always knew, he should have had a reaction when Griffin came to town last year, just like Vivian did.  I will say, the acting in the reveal scene was amazing, both actresses killed it. Now Vivian lost her husband, who is leaving her, and her daughter… and she already lost her son. The writers really trashed this entire family for nothing, how sad. She’s now running around town blaming everything on Griffin and trashing his name, but lady, no, it’s all your fault! I think I now just got to Gilly’s last episode (Aug 1). She just announced to the family at dinner that she’s leaving town for good and will not reach back out to her mother. What a terrible ending to this character and the family. Finally found a time I liked Alan. Marah (of course) and Shayne sneak away and go wandering on 5th street alone, but Shayne stays back in the abandoned building, just as they’re about to blow it up. Alan is sweet to Marah and realizes Shayne might still be there, so he runs to the building and tries to stop them from detonating the explosives, but he’s too late… he finally has a heart here haha. Although I guess this is still all his fault.  Watching Josh and Reva react to Shayne’s voice from within the rubble was really moving, great acting across the board here (Annie too). Ok, so Zachary shows up while everyone runs away from the rubble that’s falling, and he steps into it and finds Shayne. So is he like an angel or something supernatural? Because I don’t love supernatural stuff on my soaps unless that’s ‘normal’ for the show.  But Alan does eventually go in with Josh, so he’s risking his life to save Shayne, and that’s great. I was a huge Lucy/A-M fan and loved watching their relationship, but most couples work well when the actors have good chemistry. For me, now that Rick Hearst is gone, the relationship just isn’t working for me, sadly. I feel like Lucy and Zachary have better chemistry now haha. Abby’s mom has returned and she’s just highly frustrating and awful - that’s all. J just mentioned he has a sister - who is that? Unless she’s older and an adult, it’s a bit odd that she’s not around since now both Nola and Quint are in Springfield. She didn’t show at Henry’s funeral either, nor was mentioned. So Roger is now in the loony bin, after losing his court case. I’m side-eyeing Blake on this one. She was completely torn, which was nice to see, but she ultimately sided with Dinah/Hart which annoyed me. But, Bridget continues to win for me - she’s one of my favorites - and she just called out Dinah/Hart on their BS, and I’m here for it. If there were ever a moment for a slap, Dinah deserves one from Bridget. Speaking of slaps, I haven’t seen a single slap in the 18 months I’ve been watching this show!  Does GL just not traditionally do slaps? It’s a soap staple that I enjoy haha. Alex continues to be one of my favorites, likely because I’m such a fan of Dusay, her theatrics and heavy breathing. She keeps referring to Amanda as “Little Miss Madame” and it cracks me up.  Speaking of Amanda, she now just overheard nurses gossiping that Blake is having twins with two different fathers, so she knows the secret! This should get good now that she’s re-entered Ross/Blake’s orbit. Ah, so the A.Spaulding in question that paid Neil Everest off to frame Phillip was Alan-Michael!  Well, Lucy found a check he wrote to Neil, so I’m assuming so… this isn’t that interesting of a storyline though, so hopefully this doesn’t drag on too much longer. Now I just found out that Neil and Alan were cellmates in prison…it keeps going. And finally, Annie just faked a prescription for more pills and she just saw a ‘bad Annie’ image of herself who is encouraging her addiction.  Annie is officially talking to herself and since I know Jeva won’t allow a Josh/Annie relationship to survive, I’m all here for crazy Annie! Whoa! Griffin just got shot while giving a speech on 5th Street.  Curious to see what happens here, even though I’m not a Griffin fan.
