HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

Does anyone remember, was the plan for Julia Barr to take over the role of Janet in 1996 when Janet was hatching that plan to impersonate her? LOL. Robin was close to being let go, was she not?

Yeah,

But RM fans complained and she was kept on.

I remember Janet cutting a lock of Brooke's hair to match the color (she did the same to Natalie). I also remember Janet looking into a mirror and Brooke's face was the reflection looking back. Ha.

Janet was going to blackmail Dr. Kinder about Skye, I think, and make him help her to get surgery to look like Brooke.

It would have been an... interesting story, for sure.

Speaking of "What If...," Frank Valentini has a picture of Susan with Maurice hanging on what looks to be his office wall. He recently posted a picture of himself and apparently his dog on Twitter.

Frons seemed keen to drop him as soon as he joined on. I don't know if he was wanting to brand all his shows (ie AMC as the new Sex and the City) or what-- Within a year he replaced AMC and OLTL's teams--with OLTL he seemed smart in that he brought back Malone and Griffith, with AMC he bumped up Rayfield and then Cascio but I suspect he wanted to bring back a writer from their more popular days as well which is why fairly quickly--though they seemed to be doing the facile version of Pine Valley he wanted--he brought in McTavish. I think ti sorta worked with McTavish, it didn't work with Malone and Griffith (though it was an entertaining, gothic mess at times--OLTL really bottomed out when Griffith left and actually admitted he had to make too many compromises to Frons and, while he doesn't seem a great HW on his own, Malone always seems to need Griffith to balance him out).

But you're right, Culliton did create suspense--and had some great story ideas. I think he should have been allowed more time--but some of the story drops (like Tim Dhillon showing up and then disappearing) seemed odd, and I think that was before Frons.

I believe so... I should ask Hal about that--as he has said Brooke was one of his fave characters to write for aside from Kevin.

Please do. My understanding was that the show was interested in giving JB dual parts (and you would have gotten to see JB play truly unhinged), but that certain differences in physical factors between JB and RM were noted by an outcry of fans that made the plot completely plausible. Rumormill is also that JB fought against the story because she didn't want RM to lose her job.

Don't get me wrong, I "get" where you are coming from with McTavish. Truth is, I also enjoyed some of the outlandish stories told by McTavish. And while the actor Roscoe Born didn't care for where they were taking the character of Jim Thompson, I thought Broderick and company were misguided on where you could go with a character who was revealed as a kiddie porn photographer. McTavish's take on the character as pure sleaze was on target, and she even played that Brooke was just such a mess after the plane crash that she missed the signs. I didn't like Brooke killing another human being, but believed that Brooke could be driven to such a dire act if she believe her child was in danger. And Julia B. knocked it out of the park when she shot Jim in the back, not one, not two, not three... but yes, four times in the back!

I think Born was maybe also just tired of playing psychos--after doing a pretty great job with his role on The City as a nice guy. From what I've heard Broderick and team were gonna go in another root all together (I have no idea if that would mean he wasn't remotely connected to the kiddie porn--which seems a stretch or what, though it was McTavish who tied him into the whole plane crash thing), but at the time I felt Brooke psychologically was justified. Though I don't remember four shots... lol

I tend to like the *occasional* darker story, but kiddie porn is one of those issues I'm not sure a soap can really claim any benefit from dealing with. Then again they sure handled it better, in hindsight, than Dena Higley's OLTL kiddie porn story...

Cute dog, Husky.

Is that why that dog gets so much screentime on GH? (he is a cute pup though--and I am *not* refering to FV).

That's the dog that is in Olivia's visions. It's GH's latest star to be given a contract. LOL.

Erica Kane would NOT put up with that mob nonsense from Sonny.

In fact, I could see her taking over the ''business'' and being "Godmother of the Northeast''.... but would use triple slaps instead of guns.

Everything I've heard about JB has been extremely gracious, so I wouldn't be too surprised. I will ask--I'm trying to get Corley to do a sort of interview, answering questions fans have, but I think he may be weary until the whole status with PP is revealed.

Clearly I don't watch the younger Madame Delphina (sp?) enough to notice. He looks good with the dog though, I have to admit.

Susan did star in Mafia Princess back in the day. :P They even made a joke about it on Step By Step. :P

I have also heard only good things about JB. I totally respect Corley wanting to hold off until PP has all the pieces in place, but would also love to read your interview. Maybe you will get to break the news that Corley is on board. This has been a fun night on the boards, but now I must go face the treadmill. Night All!

It would have been interesting, but I was glad when they dropped it and kept Janet reformed. Erica/Janet/Skye that summer was so entertaining! On the flipside, to see Julia play psychotic would have been quite interesting.

Night! I'm on my way out (and I will try not to bore any of my non soap watching friends with stories about AMC...)

Agreed, but that seems the wrong way to do it. And yes Erica/Janet/Skye as the "three witches of Pine Valley" was a lot of fun.
